Latest Great Wall "Steed" gets improved quality, better spec and better value for money.

  • Latest generation Steed offers better value and higher specification
  • Improved quality throughout
  • Three models in UK line-up
  • Euro 5 compliant
  • Six year / 125,000 mile warranty
  • On sale 1 October 2014, priced from £14,998 (CVOTR)
Two years after commencing volume vehicle sales in Britain with its value for money Steed pick-up, Great Wall Motors is launching the latest generation of the 4x4 double-cab onto the UK market, promising improved quality, a higher specification and even better value.
As before, the updated Steed blends style and practicality while retaining its position as the best value pick-up on the market.
One of China’s most successful car manufacturers and exporters, the company boasts impressive credentials in the production of pick-ups. Great Wall has manufactured the best-selling pick-up in China every year since 1998 while globally the Brand has sold nearly one million vehicles.
Prices for the new Great Wall Steed start at just £14,998 (CVOTR) for the generously-equipped Steed S model – the lowest price for any double-cab 4x4 pick-up in the UK – increasing to £16,998 for the top-of-the-range SE. Despite carrying a premium of only £1,000 over the old model, the 2015 Steed is packed with even more practical, standard features.

On sale from 1 October, the new Steed will be available through a carefully selected network of fifty dealers, many appointed in 2012 at the launch of the franchise in the UK. The dealers are mainly small, privately owned enterprises, hand-picked by Great Wall’s franchising team to reflect the brand’s values and philosophy and their ability to deliver the promised standards of customer service that will break new ground in the segment.
Typically Steed
The vehicle retains its chunky looks, amplified by muscular wheel-arches and high ground clearance, but now with a slightly sleeker profile with the side indicators incorporated into the door mirrors instead of the front wing. The Steed is available in Titanium White and three metallic colours (optional at extra cost) – Pearl Black, Sky Silver and Noble Grey. The Tracker special edition will be available in Titanium White and Noble Grey.
Inside the new Steed is where some of the more significant improvements are to be found. Higher quality materials, such as that used on the seat facings and a sharper, more contemporary design of instrument cluster, creates a more comfortable and ergonomic feel to the cabin. New technologies have been added to improve convenience and enhance the ownership experience, including a multi-function rear view mirror with automatic dimming and an outside temperature display. A tyre pressure monitoring system is also incorporated which will display the working pressure for each tyre.
Carrying capacity compares very well with established pick-up rivals as the cargo bed measures 1,380 mm x 1,460 mm x 480 mm (length, width, depth). The Steed has a maximum payload of 1,050 kg and is now certified in the UK to tow 2.5 tonnes with a ‘braked’ trailer. The increase in towing from 2.0 tonnes followed independent tests at the Millbrook Proving Ground in 2013 where it was put through stringent tests by an independent team of engineers and consultants, subsequently resulting in the Steed being fully validated by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).
The Steed’s capabilities as a durable and versatile load-lugger, both on- and off-road, is impressive. Under the galvanised steel skin lies a separate, rust-proofed ladder-frame chassis, strengthened and braced by reinforced centre cross-members, an impact-resistant rear beam and a reinforced cargo bed.
The Steed is fitted with an ‘on-demand’ part-time, four-wheel-drive system that delivers numerous customer benefits. When slippery conditions are encountered on-road – or an all-terrain capability is required off-road – the driver can select all-wheel-drive simply by pressing a button on the dashboard, up to speeds of 12mph.
The advanced transmission system, manufactured for Great Wall by BorgWarner, is the dual-range type seen in other serious off-road vehicles. To further aid its usability, the Steed has selectable low-range ratio gears for when serious off-roading is encountered.
For 2015, the Steed is also equipped with rear disc brakes replacing the old drum units to increase stopping power and stability.
Engine
The 2015 Steed uses the same free-spinning 2.0 Litre diesel as the previous model, now certified to comply with Euro 5 emission regulations. The water-cooled 1,996 cc power plant is fitted with a CAC (charge air cooled) intercooler system, state-of-the-art glow plug technology and a variable-geometry turbocharger (VGT). The variable geometry turbocharger features turbine blades that alter their pitch according to engine speed – to provide the Steed with high levels of pulling power throughout the rev range, and maximum torque from as low as 1,800 rpm.
With a long-stroke design for optimum torque generation, the Steed engine features an 83.1 mm bore and a 92.0 mm stroke, with a rigid block structure and direct injection fuel system to reduce noise and vibration while on the move. The Steed engine produces maximum power of 139PS at 4,000 rpm with maximum torque of 305Nm spread over a rev range of 1800 to 2,800 rpm.
Steed Equipment and ownership promise
The Steed will come with a host of standard features typically offered only as high-cost options on competitor models, including 16-inch alloy wheels, daytime running lights, remote central locking, a Thatcham-approved Category 1 alarm, electric windows all round, air-conditioning, heated front seats and for the 2015 model, the addition of a double-din Alpine CD/radio with USB/MP3 and Bluetooth connectivity and steering wheel mounted audio controls. An auto dimming rear view mirror is also now standard.
To make the Steed ownership proposition even more attractive, Great Wall Motor makes a highly-attractive, six-point promise to all its customers.
This comprehensive care package includes a six year / 125,000 mile mechanical warranty, a six-year anti-perforation warranty, three-year paint warranty and three years of roadside recovery and assistance. However, going over and above the industry expectations, it also includes inflation-proof fixed-price monthly service payments, and the policy of only invoicing for work previously agreed with the customer.
Further promises ensure customer convenience: test drives at the location of the enquirer’s choice (if they live or work within 20 miles of a Great Wall dealer), and free service pick-up and drop-off for customers up to 20 miles away from the dealer.
Keeping ownership costs down yet further, the Steed boasts the lowest insurance ratings (from 7A for the S, and 8A for the SE models) of any vehicle in the pick-up segment.
State of the art manufacturer
Unlike its predecessor, the latest Steed is built and assembled at Great Wall’s newer manufacturing facility based at the head-office in Baoding City. Utilising the latest vehicle assembly robotics, sourced by Great Wall from around the globe and a new fully automated paint shop, it is anticipated that the Steed will have improved quality levels throughout the vehicle. The plant is capable of designing, developing and building SUV, passenger-car and pick-up model ranges.
Great Wall also has its own purpose-built test centres and laboratories to assesses and optimise the performance and capabilities of its vehicles – encompassing safety tests, emissions, and the management of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) – with all resulting prototype manufacture being conducted in-house.

Ssangyong adds free servicing to Rexton SUV

  • 0% finance offer also available from participating dealers
  • 3 tonne towing capability
  • 5 years limitless mileage warranty
SsangYong is introducing a 3 year free servicing offer on all Rexton W models purchased during August and September, and applies to the 4x4 Rexton W SX, EX and EX automatic models, as well as the CSX commercial registered by 30th September 2014.
***
Combined with the existing market leading 5 year limitless mileage warranty that protects all SsangYong cars, this brings three years free servicing (or three services, whichever comes sooner) to give customers complete peace of mind.
The Rexton W range is also currently available with 0% finance from participating dealers.
Rexton W
Built on a steel ladder chassis and with a 3 tonne towing capacity, the new SsangYong Rexton W is a serious off-roader and tow-car, yet with all the equipment and creature comforts expected of an urban cruiser, including cruise control, air conditioning, electrically operated & heated door mirrors, and CD & RDS radio with iPod and Bluetooth connectivity.
Powered by SsangYong’s own 2.0 litre Euro 5 turbo charged e-XDi200 diesel engine offering a level of performance and NVH control that has already been tested, proven and praised in the marketplace.  Delivering maximum power of 155ps/4,000rpm and maximum torque of 360Nm/1,500-3,000rpm, it is designed to provide low end torque whatever the conditions on or off road.
Acclaimed for being an extremely competent off-roader, Rexton W uses a body on frame construction for maximum strength - the accepted approach for a serious off-roader - and features double wishbone and coil spring suspension to the front, and a five link rigid axle with coil springs at the rear.
Available with either 6-speed manual or 5-speed Mercedes-Benz T-Tronic automatictransmission, prices range between £21,995 and £25,995, with the commercial at £18,495 (ex VAT).
5 year limitless mileage warranty
All models in the SsangYong range are covered by a best-in-class 5 year limitless mileage warranty.  Designed to be totally transparent and give customers complete peace of mind, ‘limitless’ means just that: not a maximum mileage condition that some brands impose in their small print.  All the major mechanical components are covered including wheel bearings, suspension joints and bushes, steering joints, shock absorbers and even the audio system.  Wearable components such as clutch discs and brake friction materials which could have their life reduced by poor driving are covered for one year or 12,000 miles, and the battery and paintwork for three years.

At Long last the Subaru Impreza returns to the UK.

  • Sole C-segment car to offer All-Wheel Drive as standard
  • Efficient 1.6-litre Boxer engine and choice of transmissions
  • Generous standard equipment
  • New Auto Start Stop system boosts fuel savings
  • On sale from 1 May, priced from £17,495 (on-the-road)
Subaru UK is to bring the Impreza back to the UK, with the latest model going on sale throughout the network from 1 May.
The new model will be limited to one, non-turbo engine and one trim level with a choice of transmissions. The new 1.6-litre Impreza RC will be priced from £17,495 (on-the-road) for five-speed manual models and from £18,995 for models fitted with Subaru’s Lineartronic transmission. The Impreza will be the only car in the C-segment to offer All-Wheel Drive (AWD) as standard on every model,

A combination of a more favourable exchange rate and persistent customer demand has led to the decision to make the Impreza available again in the UK market in small volumes, and will offer an interesting and price competitive alternative to much more established competition in the highly competitive C-segment. The latest Impreza has been enjoying significant sales success in both its home market of Japan and in the US since its launch in 2012.
Since its introduction to the global market in 1992, the Impreza has become the most famous of Subaru model names, with the brand’s high-tech Symmetrical AWD system and four-cylinder horizontally-opposed Boxer engines core to the car’s road-going abilities and appeal.
The new Impreza retains these attributes, featuring a new-generation 1.6-litre Boxer petrol engine, the latest version of Subaru’s hallmark All-Wheel Drive as standard equipment, and an impressive range of safety and fuel efficiency aids.
Design and practicality
The new Impreza was designed to offer excellent stability on the road and a high level of practicality. The car’s hawk-eye headlights and hexagonal grille show that it belongs to the Subaru family, while its prominent wheel arches emphasise its All-Wheel Drive character. The A-pillar is located closer to the front of the car than its predecessors, allowing a sleeker, more aerodynamic shape and a more spacious cabin.
Inside the car, the cabin is composed of a range of highly-durable and high quality materials. The impression of spaciousness is enhanced by a wide field of vision, wider door dimensions and higher hip points in all seats. The dashboard and steering wheel feature clear switches and controls, with a Multi-Function Display screen atop the central console.
1.6-litre Boxer engine and choice of transmissions
Like all of its predecessors, the new Impreza is equipped with a four-cylinder horizontally-opposed Boxer engine, providing a lower centre of gravity for superior road-holding, and for the best compromise between performance and fuel efficiency.
The new model will be sold in the UK with a 1.6-litre Boxer petrol engine, producing 114ps and 150Nm of torque for eager throttle response. The engine features separate cooling circuits for the cylinder block and cylinder head, allowing it to warm-up more quickly to reduce friction and improve fuel economy. An Active Valve Control System helps keep engine friction even lower by reducing the oil pump relief pressure. A maintenance-free chain-type camshaft drive belt further improves efficiency. The 1.6-litre engine in the Impreza complies with Euro 5 emissions standards.

The new model will be available with a choice of five-speed manual or chain-driven Lineartronic (CVT) transmissions. The Lineartronic transmission further improves the environmental performance of the Impreza, while wide ratio coverage and a six-speed manual-shift mode ensure decisive performance and a smooth drive.
The Impreza features a new Auto Start Stop system, boosting fuel savings in congested traffic. A special starter motor and ‘In-rush Current Reduction’ (ICR) ensure the Auto Start Stop is as unobtrusive as possible to vehicle occupants. The ICR stabilises the power supply when the engine cuts out when stationary, ensuring that the dashboard instruments and displays don’t flicker. When equipped with Lineartronic, Auto Start Stop reignites the engine in just 0.2 seconds.
Fitted with the 1.6-litre Boxer engine and manual transmission, the new Impreza will accelerate from 0-60mph in 12.3 seconds, and on to a top speed of 114mph. The Impreza returns fuel economy of 44.1mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 147g/km, improving to 46.3mpg and 140g/km when fitted with Lineartronic.
Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive standard across the range
Subaru’s legendary Symmetrical AWD system ensures greater safety and a high level of on-road stability in all conditions.
Manual-transmission models feature a centre differential incorporating a viscous limited-slip differential (LSD), with a basic 50/50 per cent front/rear torque split.  To improve traction on low-grip surfaces, this system can detect any slip in front or rear wheels and adjust the torque distribution to the front or rear accordingly.
Lineartronic models, fitted with an electronically-controlled Multi-Plate Transfer clutch, control and distribute torque to the rear wheels. A 60/40 front/rear torque split can be adjusted, with more torque sent to the rear wheels if the system detects slipping front wheels.
The new Impreza’s all-round independent suspension ensures a high level of refinement and driving agility on all roads, the car absorbing impacts from poor road surfaces while allowing a linear, predictable response to steering inputs. A wide anti-roll bar improves the Impreza’s stability, while vibrations throughout the cabin are kept to a minimum with a highly-rigid cross-member.
The electrically-assisted power steering system ensures linear responses at all times, as well as a natural steering feel.
High levels of active and passive safety
Paired with the AWD system, all Impreza models receive Subaru’s electronic stability programme, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), as standard, further improving stability and hazard avoidance. VDC also features an emergency brake-assist function, while a brake override control system eliminates the risk of unintended acceleration by ensuring that braking always takes precedence if both brake and throttle pedals are pressed at the same time.
Passive safety is a strong point for the Subaru Impreza, with a high proportion of high-tensile steel employed throughout the body to improve body stiffness and collision safety. The bonnet and bulkhead are engineered to protect pedestrians in the event of a collision without sacrificing body rigidity. The car is also fitted with eight airbags (front, knee and curtain / side airbags) for maximum occupant protection.
From the driver’s seat, a wide field of vision also improves safety, with narrow A- and B-pillars and door-mounted mirrors reducing the number of blind spots.
The Impreza was awarded the full five stars in Japan’s New Car Assessment Programme (JNCAP) at the end of 2012 when the model launched in its home market. The JNCAP crash test programme is a rigorous series of performance tests which include full wrap / offset frontal collision, side collision and pedestrian head and leg protection tests.
UK model range: generous standard specification
The UK model will come in RC specification, and customers will benefit from high levels of standard equipment to improve convenience. This includes automatic on/off headlamps and rain-sensing windscreen wipers, front fog lamps, power-folding heated door mirrors with LED turn signals, windscreen wiper de-icer system, 16-inch alloy wheels, tyre repair kit and daytime running lights.
For occupant comfort, every Impreza is equipped with dual-zone air-conditioning, rear passenger heating and ventilation ducts, six-way manually-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, 60/40 split-fold rear seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, two 12V power outlets, USB and aux-in jacks, and a reversing camera.
Optional equipment to upgrade further includes leather seating and a Pioneer satellite navigation system. Three exterior colours will be available: Satin White, Ice Silver and Quartz Blue.
