BAC and the supercar MONO has built a olice version of its car for the Isle of Man.

  • Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) has joined forces with the Isle of Man Government and provided the world’s first BAC Mono police car
  • BAC works closely with the Isle of Man to perfect the unique driving characteristics of its single-seater supercar and even hosts annual Mono Experience Weekends on the island with its clients and friends
  • The pair’s latest union celebrates great British innovation and engineering, together with the great traditions of island policing
  • BAC has used the Isle of Man as its playground since launch in 2011, and it’s now showcasing its commitment to road safety with the deployment of the Mono police car
Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) has teamed up with the Isle of Man Government to unleash a stunning and completely unique BAC Mono police car.
The world’s only single-seater, road-legal supercar has captured the hearts of petrolheads around the world for offering the purest driving experience possible, and the Isle of Man police will now benefit from having the ultimate driver’s car at their disposal.
A true first for the Isle of Man police force, the supercar will now become an active member of the fleet and will also be on show at a number of local festivals to encourage safe and responsible driving.
BAC and the Isle of Man have enjoyed a special bond ever since the Mono was launched in 2011, with BAC exploiting the stunning driving roads of the island and using it to explore and develop necessary changes to its creation.
The BAC team recently descended on the picturesque island with clients and friends for a special Mono Experience Weekend, in which a record 12 Monos came together to enjoy the very best of the Isle of Man on the road and track with full support from the Government in closing and de-restricting roads.
The Liverpool-based company has always stayed fully committed to road safety during its time on the island, and it’s once again showing its devotion to keeping Isle of Man roads safe with this latest collaboration.
Isle of Man’s Mono is basked in official police livery and benefits from all of the bespoke touches that made the supercar such an icon. PC Andy Greaves, who is an advanced driver, police motorcyclist and collision investigator, is the force’s dedicated Mono driver and was full of excitement when discussing his new model:
“It’s a remarkable vehicle, and clearly will be of huge interest to bikers and car drivers alike. We are here to promote safe use of the road, and it’s amazing how many people want to talk to you when this is your transport.”
By taking to the cockpit of the Mono, Greaves will be able to spread the good word on road safety and keep drivers both interested and entertained all the while. Greaves continued: “Every opportunity we get, we stop and talk to visitors. Having a show-stopper like a BAC Mono police car on the fleet makes that so much easier.”
Thousands of visitors head to the Isle of Man every year to enjoy the most idyllic driving roads and scenery in the world, and with the Mono on side, the police can go one step further to ensuring their absolute safely.
BAC Co-Founder and Director of Product Development, Neill Briggs, said: “We have a very special affinity with the Isle of Man and we’re absolutely delighted to bring this extra-special Mono to a remarkable police force. The Government has been nothing but amazingly supportive to BAC and the BAC dream, and we’re honoured to be able to play our part in making their roads a safer place. This is a world first for both BAC and the Isle of Man and something both parties are incredibly proud of.”

BAC and it's supercar the Mono, are taking over the Isle of Man for the next Customer Experience time.

  • Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) is gearing up to bring Mono Mania to the Isle of Man from Thursday 11th – Sunday 14th May
  • An army of 12 Monos will hit the island as part of a special customer experience weekend, comprising road and track driving with the full support of the Isle of Man Government
  • The Isle of Man prides itself on offering the perfect setting for extreme sports, driving and cycling, and BAC will use its playground to full effect to allow customers to extract the best of both the setting and the car
  • BAC enjoyed remarkable success with its inaugural Mono Experience trip in February, as customers took to the frozen lakes of Sweden
Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) is preparing to host an extra-special experience weekend on the Isle of Man with an army of its One-of-a-Kind Mono supercars and valued customers.
Fresh off the back of a hugely successful inaugural experience weekend on the frozen lakes of Sweden in March, BAC is taking over its Isle of Man playground and teaming up with the local Government to give its customers exclusive access to some of the best roads on the planet.
The Isle of Man is one of the world’s most ideal locations for driving thanks to its all-weather terrain and remote mountain areas, and the Government has given full support to BAC by de-restricting and closing roads purely for customer enjoyment.
As many as 12 of the road-legal, single-seater supercars and 20 clients – representing 10 countries around the world – will head to the island on Thursday 11 May for four unforgettable days of no holds barred Mono fun.
Guests will be staying in the finest hotels on the island with the very best hospitality from BAC members of staff – including Co-Founders Neill and Ian Briggs – but the real appeal of the experience is sampling all the Mono has to offer on road and track.
After settling in on the opening day, Friday 11 May will see BAC’s guests head to the Jurby Circuit, where they’ll receive expert guidance from the BAC team before letting loose on the tarmac.
On Saturday, the Monos will descend to the picturesque south west coast of the island to enjoy fully marshalled driving on specially de-restricted and closed roads. The cars will then line up at Castletown ahead of a private lunch, before the team hit the iconic TT Course to enjoy the Mono in perfect Isle of Man surroundings.
Only BAC could offer such a remarkable experience to its loyal and valued customers, as it takes pride in being more connected with its clients than any other supercar manufacturer.
It’s forever giving back to those who gave the brand its phenomenal stature around the globe, and taking to the Isle of Man is one of many ways BAC is repaying its nearest and dearest.
BAC Co-Founder and Director of Product Development, Neill Briggs, said: “When Ian and I first set about creating the Mono, we did so with the vision of sharing it with friends – giving them access to the purest driving experience in the world.
Our trip to Sweden in March saw that dream become a reality, and we’re once again relishing being able to showcase our creation to those who share our vision. We work closely with the Isle of Man and are very excited to show everyone what this wonderful place has to offer; we’d also like to extend our thanks to the Government for making part of the trip possibly and allowing us to sample idyllic roads in the best car possible.”

Korando - With prices starting from just £16,250 and backed by SsangYong’s comprehensive warranty, the Korando sets a new benchmark of affordability in the rapidly growing compact crossover segment.  With SsangYong’s hallmark competitive pricing and comprehensive specification, the new Korando is pitched to significantly undercut its competitors.
Designed for Europe in Italy by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Ital Design, the SsangYong Korando offers a highly contemporary look.
Powered by a 2.2 litre Euro 6 diesel engine delivering excellent fuel economy and impressive 139g/km CO2emissions, the new 178ps diesel engine and torque of 400Nm makes Korando one of the most powerful in its class.  With the choice of two wheel drive or four wheel drive and a two tonne towing capacity, Korando offers the practicality of a 4x4/SUV, the accessibility of a family hatchback, and the capability to go from muddy campsite to urban school run.
There are three models available, with the option of 6-speed manual and 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission.
Rexton - The Rexton is SsangYong’s flagship sport utility vehicle (SUV), and is greatly enhanced with the addition of an upgraded Euro 6 compliant powertrain.
In addition to the new 2.2 litre Euro 6 diesel engine, Rexton also gets the choice of a 6-speed manual transmission or new Mercedes-Benz 7-speed automatic.
Built on a steel ladder chassis and with a 3 tonne towing capacity, the SsangYong Rexton is a serious off-roader and tow-car, yet with all the equipment and creature comforts expected of an urban cruiser.
Noted for being extremely capable off-road, the Rexton uses a body on frame construction for maximum strength. It features double wishbone and coil spring suspension to the front, and a five link rigid axle with coil springs at the rear, while the EX automatic and ELX feature multi-link rear suspension for an even more comfortable ride.
With either the 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission, the driver can select low range when going off road which splits the torque equally between the front and rear axles to provide all round traction, and ensures optimum grip across the most challenging terrain.
Available with either five or seven seats, the Rexton range is comprehensively equipped with the range topping ELX featuring a luxurious beige/grey leather interior, new multi-function leather covered steering wheel, distinctive 18” Diamond cut alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, front and rear parking sensors, auto-dipping rear view mirror, heated rear seats and Sat Nav.
With prices starting from only £23,500, the Rexton 2.2 has an almost unrivalled position in the 4x4 sector.
Musso pick-up - With its one-tonne payload, the Musso brings a new level of refinement to the market place, blending the suspension, engine and cabin finesse of a passenger car, the silhouette, space and seating for five that’s typical of a double cab, and the rugged workmanlike ability of a commercial pick-up.
This new car will appeal to those who need a working vehicle, the practicality of 4 wheel drive, the towing capability to haul up to 3 tonnes yet also the appointments of a family car.  Whether towing a work trailer or horsebox, ferrying the crew to site or the children to school, Musso will meet a range of different demands.
Priced keenly from just £15,995 (ex VAT) the car is comprehensively equipped so you not only get a lot of vehicle for the money, but also a 5 year limitless mileage warranty.
There are two models to choose from.  The SE is extremely well appointed and comes equipped with silver finish 18” alloy wheels, hard wearing ‘leather look’ TPU seat upholstery, air conditioning, leather covered steering wheel, remote central locking and CD & RDS radio with iPod and Bluetooth connectivity.  The EX features the luxury touch of leather upholstery with heated front seats, powered driver’s seat, 7” touchscreen RDS radio with iPod & Bluetooth connectivity, reversing camera, heated, electrically adjustable power folding door mirrors and rear parking sensors.  6 speed automatic transmission with cruise control is also available as an option.  All models feature speed sensitive steering, and there’s a choice of tops available.
Musso is powered by SsangYong’s latest e-XDi diesel engine.  This 2.2 litre engine provides maximum power of 178ps and peak torque of 400Nm delivered between 1,400rpm and 2,800rpm providing ample performance both on and off road, whatever the task.
And unlike other pick-ups where the word ‘truck’ belies their more dated mechanical origins by utilising leaf springs, the SsangYong Musso features a live rear axle supported by sophisticated five link suspension with coil springs to give a comfortable, car like ride.
Turismo - Offering family and business users a car to transport seven adults in comfort together with their luggage, the SsangYong Turismo is almost without rival.
At over 5 metres long and with a 3 metre wheelbase, the car is larger than a standard sized MPV people carrier, and is now further enhanced with the addition of an upgraded 2.2 litre Euro 6 diesel engine.  The Turismo also now offers the choice of a 6-speed manual transmission or new Mercedes-Benz 7-speed automatic, with prices starting at just £19,250.
Thanks to its 3,000mm wheelbase, the car provides a huge interior space where seven adults can travel in supreme comfort with their luggage loaded in the back, without having to compromise on passenger accommodation.  There are three rows of seats as well as a large load space which can be further increased by removing the third row completely. This gives a massive load carrying capability of between 875 litres with seven adults seated, through to two adults and 3,146 litres of load space.
While rear wheel drive features on the SE and EX, the top of the range ELX includes selectable 4x4 with low ratio as standard.  This makes the Turismo ELX a car you can rely on, no matter what the winter throws at you, and is especially safe and practical whether towing a caravan, horsebox or boat trailer, or when driving on snow and ice.  As with other Turismo models the ELX has an impressive 2 tonne towing capability.
The new Turismo utilises double wishbone front suspension and rear independent multi-link suspension for executive saloon style ride quality.  This set-up offers a quiet and comfortable driving environment with firm body control, a flat ride and optimum stability regardless of the road conditions.

Subaru, Mark Higgins and Prodrive break the Isle of Man TT road COurse record again, they Smashed it.

Subaru of America, Inc. announced today that a Subaru WRX STI Time Attack car piloted by Mark Higgins set a new lap record of the fabled 37-mile Isle of Man TT Road Course with an average lap speed of 128.73 mph and a time of 17.35. This breaks the previous record held by Higgins of 116.47 mph and a time of 19.26.

The all-new 2016 Subaru WRX STI time attack car is a joint development of Subaru of America, Inc., and Prodrive, with technical assistance provided by Subaru Tecnica International (STI). The new car is purpose-built for the Isle of Man TT Course.

“It was an amazing run today considering we were running in very hot conditions and the tarmac was quite soft. With lower temperatures we would be making more horsepower, so I still believe we have more left in terms of speed, but it is great to have another record in the bank,” said Mark Higgins.

“The chassis on this new car is fantastic to drive. It makes a difference driving a car custom designed for this course. It really allowed me to pick up time in each sector in the more technical parts of the course.”

For the 2016 car, Subaru of America decided to create a purpose- built car that could tackle the arduous TT Course, which is similar in style to both the Nürburgring and Le Mans in the demands it puts on suspension and engines.  It called upon the joint expertise of Prodrive for the design and build, and Subaru Technica International for technical assistance.

Both have an extensive history in building and designing winning cars. Prodrive and Subaru have won three World Rally Championship Manufacturer titles together and three World Rally Championship driver titles.

Prodrive also has experience running team Aston Martin in the FIA World Endurance Championship and Le Mans 24-Hour race. STI has experience designing great road course cars, designing the back-to-back class-winner at the 2015 and 2016 Nürburgring 24-Hour Races.

“We are happy to be back at the Isle of Man as a sponsor. There is nothing like a lap of the TT circuit to push a car to its limits. As the official car of the TT, this record is especially gratifying,” said Dominick Infante, National Manager of Product Communications, Subaru of America, Inc.

“The Isle of Man really shows the capability of this new WRX STI. We are evaluating whether to make another run on Friday and top this record.”

The event, which has been comprehensively risk assessed by both Subaru and the ACU, including consultation with all relevant parties, will take place under full, closed road race conditions.

Honda (UK) has signed the fastest female on two-wheels to compete in the British Superbike Championship.

Honda (UK) has signed the fastest female on two-wheels to compete for its official team in the UK’s premier motorcycle racing series – the British Superbike Championship. Cheshire-based rider Jenny Tinmouth will be the only woman to race in the series in 2015, joining fellow riders Jason O’Halloran and Dan Linfoot on the three-strong Honda Racing squad.

Tinmouth – who has achieved many firsts for women in motorsport – has competed in the British Superbike Championship since 2011 and is the first and only female to have ever ridden in the series – an accolade for which she was awarded a Guinness World Record. Having previously run her own private team, Tinmouth will now join the official Honda squad, racing in the prestigious premier class aboard the championship-winning Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade.

Tinmouth’s racing career also includes numerous successes at the world famous Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) road races, where she holds the current record as the fastest female around the notoriously difficult 37-mile course. Tinmouth broke the female lap record in her first year at the event and went on to break her own record the following year with an average lap speed of 119.9455mph – for both she received further Guinness World Records.

In 2012, Tinmouth received The Women’s International Film and Television Showcase, International Visionary Awards ‘IT Girl’ award for her commitment and dedication to her sport, siting her as an inspiration to women of all ages around the world. Tinmouth will begin her 2015 BSB campaign with Honda Racing at the first round of the 12-round championship at Donington Park from 4-6 April. To follow Jenny’s progress in the Championship follow Honda on Facebook and Twitter.

Nick Campolucci, Head of Motorcycles at Honda (UK), sees the addition to the squad as a natural progression for both Jenny and Honda Racing:

"There'll be a focus on Jenny because she's a female racer, of course. After all, she's the first and only woman rider to compete in British Superbikes. But she's a proven competitor and current Isle of Man TT lap record holder. Jenny joins the team on merit and we are very pleased that we have the opportunity to work with her.

Honda has served up a number of firsts when it comes to broadening the representation of women in motorsport and Jenny is the latest female member of the Honda Racing family. She joins British motocross sensation Natalie Kane and Laia Sanz who achieved the highest ever placing in this year's Dakar Rally, by a female rider, finishing ninth overall in this year's race."

Jenny Tinmouth:

"I'm absolutely over the moon and cannot believe I'm riding for Honda Racing in the British Superbike Championship. The offer was totally unexpected. I went for a meeting with Nick (Campolucci) to discuss the season and had a few cheeky questions I wanted to ask about Honda helping me out with bikes, and when the offer came I couldn't believe what I was being asked. I went into the meeting thinking it would just be some help and came out as a full-time Honda rider. It's always been my ultimate dream to ride for the team and to have the opportunity this year is just amazing. I’m riding the Honda BSB bike for the first time during a team test in March and I can't wait."

New video of Subaru WRX STI beating the lap record at the Isle of Man TT course.

Subaru of America, Inc. has released the first video from its record setting lap of the Isle of Man TT Course. Mark Higgins broke the lap record two weeks ago driving a new 2015 Subaru WRX STI on the treacherous 37-mile course with an average lap speed of 117.510 MPH and a time of 19 minutes and 15 seconds.

This new lap record breaks the previous record of 115.36 MPH that was set in 2011 in a 2011 WRX STI. The run was completed in a U.S.-spec 2015 Subaru WRX STI.

“Watching the new video provides an insight into what it is like to drive this course flat out,” said Mark Higgins. “The build up to the lap is very intense and it is a fight the whole way around. I learn more every lap I take. The final run I was able to do a much cleaner lap. Just an amazing experience and I hope everyone enjoys the video.”

The video can be found on Subaru of America’s YouTube channel at http://youtu.be/scHb4TD5160. A new video will be released June 25th showing a full, unedited in-car driver point of view of the entire record lap with commentary.

The car Higgins drove is a stock U.S.-spec 2015 WRX STI, with the exception of an FIA-spec roll-cage, racing seat and harness, fire suppression system and modified springs and dampers to handle the sustained high speeds and changing conditions of the course. The Subaru WRX STI also featured Dunlop Direzza tires and a high decibel straight exhaust for crowd safety. The speed limiter was also removed from the car.

The event, which has been comprehensively risk assessed by both Subaru and the ACU, including consultation with all relevant parties, took place under full, closed road race conditions.

In his previous attempt on the course, Higgins created one of the most memorable race videos when he had a self-described “moment” at the bottom of Bray Hill at 150 MPH. The video has received almost 4 million views. After setting the record Higgins stated, "Setting the record was both the most exhilarating and the most frightening thing I have ever done."

The machines have been put together with the help of TAS Racing, who have taken the GSX-R600 to two British Supersport Championship titles as well as a number of podiums and race wins on the roads too, including victory at this year's Spring Cup at Oliver's Mount in the hands of Martin.

Mark Higgins smashed four wheel TT race lap record in Subaru WRX Sti

  • Rally ace Mark Higgins sets new lap record around famous TT circuit in all-new Subaru WRX STI
  • New four-wheeled lap record for the 37.8-mile course stands at 19:26 – beating 2011 record established by Higgins in previous-generation WRX STI
  • Minimal modifications to record-beating road car
The Subaru WRX STI has once again broken the four-wheeled lap record around the famous Isle of Man TT circuit, with British rally champion Mark Higgins setting a new record of 19 minutes 26 seconds in a production version of the newly launched high-performance saloon.
Higgins’s lap around the challenging 37.8-mile TT Mountain course saw him post an average speed of 116mph and a top speed of over 160mph.

Manxman Higgins completed his timed run under closed road conditions as part of the TT schedule and beat his previous record, set in 2011, when he set a time of 19 minutes 56.7 seconds. That was done at the wheel of the previous-generation WRX STI, breaking a record that had stood for 21 years.
As with the previous record-breaking car, the WRX STI used for Higgins’s run was a standard Subaru production car (US specification), equipped with a 300ps 2.5-litre horizontally-opposed turbocharged Boxer engine.
The only modifications to the car involved the springs and dampers, which were adjusted to minimise any potential damage when the car encountered the course’s many bumps and jumps at high speed. The WRX STI was also equipped with essential safety enhancements, including a roll-cage, race harness and fire suppression system and was fitted with Dunlop Derezza tyres.
Mark said of his run: “It was quite a lap we did today and I am really happy to have another record in the bank. The chassis of the new car is so much better it really allowed me to pick up time in each sector in the more technical parts of the course.
“There is nothing like the TT course in all racing. Not just because of its length but the elevation changes, constant surface variations as you shift from town to country roads and the fact we run from 30mph and then up to 160mph plus for much of the race.”
The outright lap record on the TT course was set in 2013 by John McGuinness on a Honda CBR1000RR ‘Fireblade’. McGuinness posted a time of 17 minutes 11.6 seconds, equivalent to an average speed of 131.7mph.
The all-new Subaru WRX STI is now on sale in the UK for £28,995 (on-the-road) – representing a price cut of £4,000 compared to the previous version of the car. To find out more about the new WRX STI, and Subaru’s range of All-Wheel Drive models, visit www.subaru.co.uk.
