USA - Subaru takes their segments for the 2nd year running in the KBB Resale value lists.

  • Subaru earns Best Resale Value for Impreza, Legacy and WRX
  • All three models win their segments for second consecutive year

Kelley Blue Book, the leading provider of new and used vehicle valuation and information, announced today that Subaru won 2017 Best Resale Value for Impreza, Legacy and WRX in their respective categories for the second year in a row.  WRX also placed in the Best Resale Value Top 10 for the second consecutive year.

Best Resale Value: Compact Car
2017 Subaru Legacy
Best Resale Value: Mid-Size Car
2017 Subaru WRX
Best Resale Value: Sporty Compact Car
Best Resale Value: Top 10
The Best Resale Value Awards recognize 2017 model-year vehicles for their projected retained value through the initial five-year ownership period.

Since depreciation (or loss of value) is typically a car-buyer’s primary expense during ownership, these awards, like all of the KBB.com new- and used-vehicle information, are designed to help consumers make more informed car-buying decisions.
“We are pleased to receive the 2017 Best Resale Value Award for Legacy, WRX, and the all-new Impreza from Kelley Blue Book” said Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America, Inc.

“These awards underscore our commitment to providing customers with vehicles made to the highest standards of safety, reliability and dependability.”
Kelley Blue Book’s Best Resale Value Awards are in their 15th year and are based on projections from the Kelley Blue Book Official Residual Value Guide. Kelley Blue Book Residual Values are established by experienced automotive analysts that review statistical models built upon millions of transactions.

Vehicles that earn the highest five-year residual values, expressed as a percentage of their original Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP), are selected for these prestigious awards. Low-volume vehicles and vehicles with an MSRP of more than $60,000 are excluded from award consideration, except in the electric, luxury, sports car, and high-performance categories.

USA - After announcing its 8th straight year of growth, Subaru of America announces the new more aggressive 2018 WRX/WRX STI

  • Revised front styling for a more aggressive look
  • Suspension optimized for better handling and ride comfort
  • New 19-inch wheels, upgraded Brembo® brakes and revised DCCD All-Wheel Drive give WRX STI wider performance envelope
  • New available Recaro® power seats
  • Performance Package option for WRX models
  • New EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology safety features
  • Upgraded interior materials and quieter cabin
Subaru of America, Inc., which this month posted its eighth consecutive year of record-breaking sales, today introduced the 2018 WRX and WRX STI, each debuting performance, comfort, design and safety enhancements for a more rewarding driving experience. The new models reach Subaru retailers in spring.
A restyled front fascia WRX and WRX STI shows a sportier attitude, highlighted by a more pronounced grille design, along with a larger lower grille opening.

The WRX Limited and all STI feature redesigned LED Steering Responsive Headlights that help illuminate curves in nighttime driving. For greater versatility, all WRX and STI models now feature new roof rack mounting brackets.

WRX for 2018

With its 268-hp, 2.0-liter direct injection turbocharged BOXER engine, Symmetrical All Wheel Drive and Active Torque Vectoring, the rally-bred WRX is a performance and value benchmark in the high-performance AWD sport-compact segment. The WRX comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission and offers an optional performance automatic transmission, the Sport Lineartronic® CVT with manual mode.
The WRX features new front and rear suspension tuning for improved steering stability and ride comfort, while retaining the car’s high cornering performance capability. Subaru significantly enhanced shifter feel for the 6-speed manual transmission, with a new synchro design and reduced friction, along with smoother clutch take-up. The WRX electric power steering (EPS) was revised to provide an even smoother, more natural feel, while integrating the steering motor and electronic control unit reduces weight.
A new optional Performance Package for the WRX Premium features Recaro 8-way power seats, red-painted brake calipers and upgraded JURID brake pads, and deletes the moonroof to reduce weight. The standard 18-inch wheels feature a bold new double-spoke design.

WRX STI for 2018

A comprehensive handling enhancement for the 2018 STI includes the revised suspension tuning as featured on the WRX, plus a revised DCCD AWD system, significantly upgraded brakes and this model’s first-ever 19-inch wheels. The DCCD system, which previously used a combination of mechanical and electronic center limited slip differential control, now uses electronic control for quicker and smoother response. The 19-inch alloy wheels feature a striking Y-shaped spoke design and carry 245/35R19 tires that help raise cornering performance while giving the STI an even more aggressive stance.
The yellow-painted brake calipers identify a significantly upgraded Brembo Performance Brake System that now uses stronger monoblock 6-piston calipers in front, monoblock 2-piston calipers in the rear and larger, drilled rotors all around for better heat dissipation. New brake pads provide significantly greater surface area for improved braking feel and fade resistance. The STI also offers the Recaro seats (standard on STI Limited, optional for base trim).
Powered by a 305-hp 2.5-liter turbocharged BOXER engine, the WRX STI brings rally-bred performance technology to the road with Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Standard handling technologies include Active Torque Vectoring and Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control.

Improved Usability with a Sporting Edge

The everyday usability that has contributed to WRX and STI popularity gets even better for 2018. All models feature upgraded interior materials, rear seat armrest with cup holders, redesigned interior door grips and faster remote trunk opening.
New measures that reduce unwanted noise include thicker door glass, revised door sealing and a foam-filled windshield header beam. A new, larger high-definition multi-function display (5.9-inch vs. 4.3-inch before) makes it easier to see vehicle functions at a glance. WRX Limited models feature power driver’s seat lumbar adjustment. The standard WRX adds heated exterior mirrors (already standard on others), while the WRX Premium upgrades to a SUBARU STARLINK™ 7.0” multimedia unit from the previous STARLINK 6.2” unit.

Safety

Subaru revised the front structure of the WRX and WRX STI for enhanced frontal collision performance. The WRX Limited, when equipped with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology now features Vehicle Hold (AVH), and a new EyeSight Assist Monitor (EAM). The EAM uses LED indicators to display EyeSight status and alerts on the windshield, allowing the driver to see them without diverting eyes from the road ahead. The AVH feature replaces the Hill Holder and Hill Start Assist functions and offers greater functionality, holding the vehicle on all road grades, not only inclines. For example, AVH can help reduce driver fatigue by holding the car at traffic lights, and then can seamlessly transition to acceleration.

USA - Subaru of America have broken ground on a new $118 Million corporate headquarters in New Jersey.

Subaru of America, Inc. today broke ground on its future home in Camden, NJ. The company plans to develop an all-new $118 million corporate headquarters in the city, and in doing so, maintain its corporate headquarters in New Jersey as it has for approaching 50 years.

The automaker’s new headquarters will be located adjacent to Campbell Soup Company’s world headquarters. The Subaru of America campus will be the first new corporate headquarters in Knights Crossing, a master plan urban town center community, being developed by Brandywine Realty Trust.

The ground-breaking ceremony featured a display of historic Subaru vehicles from the company’s 50 years in the Delaware Valley, as well as a unique earth moving/groundbreaking ceremony conducted by a specially-produced Subaru Outback with an attached plow.
Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer of Subaru of America, said: “We are very excited to be moving this project forward as we seek to bring our family of employees together on one site. This signing cements the long-term future of Subaru in the Delaware Valley and we are pleased that, after almost 50 years here, we can plan to continue to be a part of the local community we have supported for so long.”
Gerard H. Sweeney, president and chief executive officer of Brandywine Realty Trust, said: “We are delighted to contribute to the revitalization of Camden and look forward to Knights Crossing becoming a significant catalyst to the renaissance taking place in Camden. We’re especially honored to be developing this state-of-the-art campus for such a well-renowned and admired company as Subaru of America.  Subaru’s decision, coupled with the long-standing commitment by Campbell, provides an excellent platform for further economic development and job creation in the city of Camden.”
Denise Morrison, President and Chief Executive Officer of Campbell, said: “This project has been a decade in the making. When we announced our plans to develop an office park, many people believed it would never come to fruition. But we were determined to revitalize our headquarters and to spearhead the renaissance of the Gateway. Today, our plan becomes reality. It’s with great pride that we welcome Subaru to Camden.”

Subaru of America has had its corporate headquarters in NJ since 1969 and has been in its current location in Cherry Hill since 1986. It also has two offices in Pennsauken, space at Executive Campus in Cherry Hill and a distribution and training center in Florence, NJ. The Pennsauken and Cherry Hill offices will combine onto the new HQ Campus. Subaru will bring more than 600 employees and contractors to the city of Camden. The new facility, at 250,000 square feet, plus an additional building at 83,000 square feet will be more than double the size of its current headquarters building and will bring employees from four sites onto one campus.
Subaru plans to complete the project by the end of 2017.
The entire Knights Crossing development upon completion will consist of 1.4 million square feet of innovative office, full-service amenities, ample public greenways and will ultimately be served by two sources of public transportation.
Camden City Mayor Dana Redd said: “We are delighted to officially break ground on this critical project as we welcome Subaru of America and their employees to the City of Camden. This continues the long term commitment by Subaru to the region and now to our city. Subaru's development builds on Campbell's investment in the Gateway District and beginning of what will be the region's top office park. It is the result of strong partnerships and is a shining example of real public-private investment. We are talking about significant investments in upgraded infrastructure, the creation of Class A office space, jobs, and a catalyst for future development. I commend Brandywine Realty Trust, Campbell Soup Company and Subaru of America for their commitment to Camden's community and the City's revitalization.”
New Jersey Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno said: “Companies, especially those of Subaru’s stature and reputation, have a choice when they decide where to set up shop and do business. Subaru saw that a valuable partnership with New Jersey was their best option. This was made possible by a Grow NJ award, valued at nearly $118 million, an example of the good that can come when businesses team up with the state of New Jersey to create jobs. This project will have a net benefit of $167.9 million. Subaru will retain 600 jobs and create 100 new positions, and the company will make a matching capital investment into the facility.”

Subaru of America, Inc. announced today that all 2016 Subaru models, have earned the 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK+.

  • The 2016 Legacy, Outback, Forester, Impreza, WRX and Crosstrek earned the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+
Subaru of America, Inc. announced today that all 2016 Subaru models, equipped with the optional EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, met tougher criteria to earn the 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK award and the 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
“We asked auto manufacturers to do more this year to qualify for our safety awards, and they delivered,” says Adrian Lund, IIHS president. “For the first time, a good rating in the challenging small overlap front crash test is a requirement to win, in addition to an available front crash prevention system.”

The 2016 Subaru Legacy, Outback, Forester, Impreza, WRX and Crosstrek are six of only 48 vehicles that took home the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award by earning the highest possible rating of “Good” in all five crashworthiness evaluations and, when equipped with the optional EyeSight, achieving a “Superior” rating for front crash prevention.
“The rigorous testing by IIHS encourages manufacturers to continue building safer vehicles,” said Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America, Inc., “And I am proud of Subaru for consistently scoring their highest possible ratings. These awards represent our commitment to providing the highest level of safety standards to our customers.”

As of November 2015, Subaru of America, Inc. has broken its previous annual sales record of 513,693 vehicles set in 2014 and marked the company’s eighth year of sales growth and seventh successive sales record.

Sales in 2015 have been driven by the Forester, Outback and Crosstrek carlines. Combined, the three crossover vehicles now retail over 350,000 per year. Subaru sedans; Legacy, Impreza and WRX/STI, have also seen significant year-to-date increases.

To win a 2016 Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must have a “Good” rating in all five tests of high-speed front and side crash tests, a rollover test, and evaluations of seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts as well as a “Basic” rating for front crash prevention. The same level of performance in those tests, along with an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention, is required for the higher accolade, 2016 Top Safety Pick+.

Special Events to commemorate the achievements of the late and definitely great Colin McRae.

  • 20th anniversary of McRae’s crowning moment
  • Super Scot became Britain’s first WRC champion in 1995
  • Special displays and cavalcades at Wales Rally GB
  • Jimmy McRae to contest Network Q WRGB National Rally
The 20th anniversary of Colin McRae being crowned as Britain’s first ever World Rally Champion driver is being celebrated at this year’s Wales Rally GB (12-15 November).
It will be exactly two decades previously that on Wednesday 22 November the legendary Scot won Britain’s concluding round of the 1995 FIA World Rally Championship – then the Network Q RAC Rally – to make motor sport history. It’s an historic milestone that will be honoured with a number of special displays and parades at the 2015 event.

Sadly Colin lost his life in a tragic helicopter accident in 2007, but his father Jimmy McRae – himself a five time British Rally Champion – will be part of the celebrations. Not only will Jimmy be providing the title-winning Subaru Impreza 555 from the family’s personal collection for public display at the Wales Rally GB Service Park in Deeside but he also will be rolling back the years by contesting the Network Q WRGB National Rally that shadows the main WRC event.
Back in 1995, Colin arrived in Chester – where that year’s event was based just over the border from Deeside – locked in a titanic two-way title battle with team-mate Carlos Sainz knowing whoever won the rally would take the World Championship. Sainz had the experience of winning two previous titles but, ultimately it was the swashbuckling Scot’s hunger and better knowledge of British stages which won the day by 36 seconds after four days of nail-biting competition at record speeds.
“That week down in Chester is still one of the highlights of our lives,” recalls father Jimmy from his home Lanarkshire. “It was such a proud moment for us all. What could possibly be better than Colin winning the World Championship on home soil? It’s now hard to imagine that 20 years has passed since that amazing day but it’s very thoughtful that Wales Rally GB will be marking Colin’s greatest moment later this year. I competed on last year’s National Rally and was absolutely amazed by the crowds – it really was like what I think of as the good old days. For all the obvious reasons I’m sure this year’s event will be even more special.”
Although Colin never claimed a second World Championship, his spectacular, flambouyant and totally committed driving style won the hearts of millions of fans all over the world.
He did finish runner-up in the championship in both of the two following seasons and in doing so helped Subaru to a hat-trick of manufacturers’ titles. To this day he remains the sport’s youngest ever World Champion and his tally of 25 wins makes him Britain’s most successful rally driver. Indeed his final Safari Rally victory in 2002 was the last by a British driver right up until the moment his protégé Kris Meeke won in Argentina earlier in the current campaign.
“Colin McRae will forever be a true hero and not just to rally fans here in Britain,” remarked Ben Taylor, Managing Director of Wales Rally GB. “While obviously deeply saddened that Colin can’t be with us to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his crowning success, we are honoured that Jimmy will be with us to mark his son’s remarkable achievements. British rallying owes a tremendous debt to the whole McRae family and hopefully we can repay a little of that come Wales Rally GB in November.”
While the championship winning Subaru will be on show in the Service Park throughout the event, owners of ex-Colin McRae rally cars are being invited to join special parades at venues such as Chirk Castle and the Great Orme.
Fans wanting to experience these tributes can gain free access to the Service Park or take advantage of discounted Special Stage tickets by purchasing in advance.
The four-day World Rally Pass is the all-inclusive ticket for fans. It provides access to all the individual Special Stages as well as Thursday’s pre-event Shakedown. It is priced at £99 for adults (or just £1 for accompanied children aged 9-15) and comes with a desirable hard card and lanyard plus an event programme valued at £9.
Forest Passes offer a similar level of flexibility as the World Rally Pass but just for an individual day of the event. Again they include an official programme and can be purchased in advance for just £25 – a considerable saving on Single Stage tickets which will cost £30 on the gate. Tickets for the family friendly RallyFest at Chirk Castle again are available now for £25 with an even greater discount being offer to families. Full ticket information can be found on the WalesRallyGB.com website.

The 305-horsepower 2016 WRX STI, distinguished by exclusive performance components, is offered in standard and Limited trim lines starting at an MSRP of $34,695.

WRX: 268-hp Segment Launcher

With its 268-horsepower, 2.0-liter direct injection turbo BOXER engine and standard Symmetrical All Wheel Drive, the rally-bred WRX is a performance and value benchmark in the high-performance AWD sport-compact segment. The 2016 WRX comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission and offers an optional performance automatic transmission, the Sport Lineartronic™ with manual mode.

The new-generation WRX’s stiffer structure and chassis greatly enhanced handling agility, and improvement continues for 2016 with the adoption of 18 x 8.5-inch alloy wheels with 245/40 R18 summer tires on Premium and Limited trims.

New Safety Tech

The 2016 WRX joins other Subaru models in offering the company’s EyeSight system, one of the highest-rated front crash prevention systems by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). EyeSight, which is integrated with Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking and Lane Departure warning, uses Subaru-developed stereo camera technology. Newly added to the 2016 WRX EyeSight system is Lane Keep Assist, which uses the vehicle’s electric power steering system to help the driver keep the vehicle within its lane when driving on the highway.

EyeSight is available for the WRX Limited (with Sport Lineartronic transmission) in a package that also includes Navigation and Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. This comprehensive technology upgrade package also includes a harman/kardon® amplifier and 9-speaker premium sound system plus Keyless Access and Push-Button Start with Pin Code Access.

Models equipped with EyeSight also come with Steering Responsive Fog lights. This feature (which works when the fog lights are turned off) activates the left or right fog light independently, depending on the vehicle speed and steering angle, to provide enhanced illumination in the direction of the turn. The fog lights are pre-aimed for maximum coverage in corners.

Today’s Most In-Demand Infotainment Technology
All WRX trim lines for 2016 feature significantly upgraded infotainment capability. The standard WRX receives a new Subaru STARLINK™ 6.2” Multimedia system featuring today’s most in-demand user technologies, including: 6.2-in. multi-function touch screen display, AM/FM stereo, SiriusXM® Satellite Radio, HD Radio®, Radio Data Broadcast System, single-disc CD player, Subaru STARLINK connectivity with Aha™ and Pandora® smartphone integration, iHeart® Radio, Bluetooth® hands-free phone connectivity and audio streaming, iPod® control capability, a USB port and auxiliary input jack. In addition, this system includes SMS text messaging, iTunes® tagging capability and dual USB ports. SiriusXM NavWeather® and NavTraffic® are also available with a subscription. Also included with the navigation system are three years of complimentary map updates.

The top-of-line Limited trim builds on the Premium, bringing luxury to the WRX with leather-trimmed upholstery, an 8-way power driver’s seat and Welcome Lighting. Exclusive to the WRX Limited, LED low-beam headlights provide a unique look and enhanced visibility. The high beams are multi-reflector halogen units, and the system includes automatic off/on. Pricing on the Limited trim begins at $30,395.

2016 Subaru WRX STI: Heart and Soul of a Rally Champion
The WRX STI is powered by the legendary 305-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged/intercooled BOXER engine. For the 2016 WRX STI Limited trim, a low-profile trunk spoiler is now available as a no-cost option in place of the standard large signature wing.

Standard features for the 2016 WRX STI also include dual-zone automatic climate control and the All-Weather Package (dual-mode heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer). A flat-bottom, leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel integrates switches for audio and Bluetooth. The STI Design electroluminescent gauge panel integrates a 3.5-in. central LCD screen that displays various functions such as windshield washer fluid and the selected gear.

The Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) powertrain management system (also on the WRX Premium and Limited with automatic transmission) allows the driver to tailor the car’s driving characteristics by choosing from three selectable modes – Intelligent, Sport and Sport Sharp – using a rotary dial on the center console. SI-DRIVE alters vehicle performance characteristics by regulating the engine control module and by fine-tuning the electronic throttle control system.

Alcantara® seating surfaces, accented by red and black leather bolsters and red stitching, set the tone for the STI’s driver-focused interior. Rich-looking appointments and details abound, including soft-touch materials for the dashboard, door trim and center console armrest. A multi-information central display with a 4.3-in. LCD screen provides displays for numerous vehicle system functions, including the standard rear camera, boost gauge, Bluetooth, climate control settings and a VDC screen showing traction control operation. The display can also provide a vehicle self-check and maintenance reminder.
