- Renault car sales soar by 43.7 per cent in 2014 to 66,334 vehicles

Renault’s UK car sales have significantly outpaced the UK car market in 2014 and reached a three-year high at 66,334 vehicles – up by 43.7 per cent compared to 2013 according to official figures released today from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
In December, Renault car sales stood at 5,162 vehicles with a market share of 3.1 per cent.
Year-to-date car market share for the French car brand stands at 2.7 per cent – up 0.6 percentage points on 2013.
Renault has the fastest growing B-segment range in the market with combined sales of the new Clio hatchback, the Captur crossover and the 100% electric ZOE up 65.9 per cent in 2014 representing 50,499 vehicles of the 66,328 total. Electric vehicles saw a large surge in 2014 with 1,286 Z.E. models sold – up 90.2 per cent compared to the previous year.
Renault’s strong growth in 2014 also extended to its van range which saw full-year sales of 18,244 vehicles, representing a market share of 5.5 per cent – up 39.3 per cent on 2013. Renault van sales in the month of December stood at 2,296 vehicles and a market share of 8.4 per cent.
In total, Renault cars and vans sales for 2014 recorded a 42.7 per cent growth with a total of 84,578 vehicles sold and a 3.0 per cent market share, making Renault the fastest growing brand in the UK by a significant margin with a gain of 0.7 percentage points over 2013.
The Renault Group, which comprises Renault cars, vans and Dacia, saw an unprecedented 20-month period of ahead-of-the-market growth through most of 2014. Sales totaled 108,440 vehicles and market share stood at 3.9 per cent – up some 41.9 per cent from the year before, compared to a market growth of 10.3 per cent, making Renault Group the fastest growing franchise in the UK significantly outpacing the market growth now for a second consecutive year.
In December, Renault Group sold a total of 8,961 vehicles and had a market share of 4.6 per cent.
Commenting on the results, Ken Ramirez, Renault UK Managing Director, said: “The extraordinary Renault Group growth has been fuelled by customer demand for our stunning new car and van models, supported by our dealer network’s commitment to customer satisfaction. The 2014 performance reflects both our brands’ appeal in the market and the franchise’s continued growth trajectory, already delivering on our GO5+ mid-term plan objectives.”
