Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

Lots of TV adverts for MG-Rover through to MG Motors UK and into the future, enjoy.

In the final years of MG-Rover, they tried there very best to make the most out of what they had, there just was not any money in the pot to give us new cars, which is a shame and quite frankly idiotic, as they did have that money at the start, but they frittered it away, and with us now approaching the Tenth Anniversary of the collapse of MG-Rover back in 2005, all we have left is some TV adverts, some brilliant, some just plain daft, but all had one point, to sell cars.

Now we will never know how good at selling these cars the ads actually were, so I leave it you to watch the ads below, and remember fondly what we had back then, and what could have been, if BMW had waited just another 18 months, or the P4/5 had actually gotten a partner on board before it was just plainly too late.

So, watch, enjoy and smile.....

Then it all went, and we were left with just memories, that was until MG made a return to the UK, and back to Longbridge, this time we have the MG6, and this was followed by the MG3, we should also be getting the new MG GT, MG CS and Dynamo PHEV car, so the future is looking very bright for MG once again.

CHINA - SAIC launches new MG GTS SUV, UK sales need to be sooner than 2016 though.

China’s MG has released the first official images of the new MG GTS SUV, formerly known as the MG CS SUV. The orange car on the official images stands on super large tires nicely filling the wheel arches. The real thing however won’t look so good. The MG GTS will be launched on the Chinese car market in the first half of 2015. Price will start around 120.000 yuan and end around 160.000 yuan.

The MG GTS SUV is based on the third generation (2010) SsangYong Korando. The Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), owner of the MG brand, owned a controlling stake in SsangYong Motor from late 2004 until 2009. Interestingly, new reports have surfaced saying the rear suspension of the MG GTS is based on the suspension of the Volkswagen Tiguan SUV, which is manufactured in Shanghai at the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture.  MG calls the platform ‘SSA’.

Exhaust pipes are tiny but otherwise a fine ass. Very usable roof rails and a subtle roof wing.
At launch, the MG GTS will be available with only one engine: a turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder petrol with 220hp and 350nm, mated to a six-speed DCT. Later on a 1.5 turbo four with 167hp and 250nm will joint the line-up, mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
Black roof on orange body very smooth, with chromed roof rails at the border.

New Ssangyong Korando Light Commercial Vehicle gives decent looks & at a really cheap price.

  • Light commercial Korando from just £12,995 on the road ex VAT
  • Torque on demand 4-wheel drive available (CSX)
  • 2 tonne towing capability
  • 1,312 cubic litre load volume
  • 433 kg payload
  • Powerful 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine producing 360Nm of torque
  • The only 4x4 van with a 5 year limitless mileage warranty
SsangYong is adding two new low priced light commercial models to its Korando range - the 2-wheel drive CS and 4-wheel drive CSX.

SsangYong Korando CSX 4x4 Commercial

Ideal as a small delivery van, go-anywhere vehicle for service engineers or simply a light commercial to ensure you reach your destination whatever the weather or terrain, the Korando Commercial makes the perfect business partner.

And with prices from just £12,995 (ex VAT) for the two wheel drive CS model and a 5 year limitless mileage warranty, it is also a sound business decision.

SsangYong Korando CSX commercial

The Giugiaro designed Korando is already noted for its great value, high level of equipment, interior space and 2 tonne towing capability - the Korando SE won The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Award 2014 for vehicles under £16,000 - and now its commercial derivative, the Commercial van, has also been given a makeover inside and out, as well as enhanced driving refinement.

Externally, the front receives an all-new treatment that includes a slimmed down, black mesh radiator grille, contemporary projection headlights and LED daytime running lights, while the interior has also been given a significant re-design that includes a completely new dashboard.  Great advances in reducing NVH (noise, vibration & harshness) have also been made.

The new Korando Commercial is powered by a modern yet well-proven 2.0-litre Euro 5 turbo diesel engine.

There is a choice of two wheel drive or 4x4, with prices from just £12,995 (ex VAT) for the two wheel drive CS and £14,295 (ex VAT) for the four wheel drive CSX.
The completely flat load area is accessed via a high lifting tailgate or two side doors, and packs a useful 1,312 cubic litre load volume.  There’s a load deck length of 152.5cm, and 96.5cm between the wheel arches.  The car also carries a very practical 433 kg payload, and willingly pulls a 2 tonne trailer.

Under the bonnet, the Korando CS is powered by a new lower CO2 version of the Korando power unit.  Developing 149ps@4,000rpm, this advanced 2.0 litre four cylinder turbo diesel engine produces 360Nm of torque with CO2 emissions reduced to 147g/km (CS) and 157g/km (CSX).

And for when the weather turns nasty and the going gets tough, the new CSX features an impressive Torque on Demand 4x4 system and is equipped with ESP with Hill Start Assist, and mud & snow tyres as standard.

The low price doesn’t mean basic though, and drivers will enjoy the luxury touches of electric windows and tinted glass as well as a leather covered steering wheel and gear shift, cruise control and an MP3 CD & RDS radio with iPod & Bluetooth connectivity, remote audio controls and six speakers.

“The new Korando is the third light commercial vehicle (LCV) to join the SsangYong line-up, and offers a highly practical and affordable vehicle for those with specific business needs,” said Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK.  “Highly competitively priced, extremely well equipped and backed by a 5 year limitless mileage warranty, SsangYong is the only manufacturer to have that much confidence in its commercial vehicles to give its customers this level of reassurance.

“SsangYong has a growing reputation for producing extremely competent off-road vehicles, and the new Korando Commercial builds on this pedigree.  It’s an honest, reliable and highly capable LCV, and pound for pound will outclass many more expensive rivals.”

Torque on Demand 4x4

The Korando CSX features a Torque on Demand four wheel drive system which constantly monitors the level of grip available and distributes power to the wheels that need it most.  Under normal driving conditions the engine’s torque is directed to the front wheels so the car runs with the efficiency of a family hatchback.

However, if the front tyres begin to lose traction, power is automatically fed to the rear wheels to ensure safe, stable and dependable progress is maintained with grip from all four wheels.  An all-wheel drive lock mode is also provided to ensure a 50/50 spread of torque between the front and rear wheels at speeds up to 25mph, essential for when low speed traction and control is needed such as when driving up a slippery track or off a muddy building site towing a work trailer.

Korando CS & CSX specification

The CS is based on the passenger carrying Korando SE, and the CSX on the SE4.  For full details of the Korando equipment list click here: http://www.ssangyonggb.co.uk/Korando-Equipment and for technical specifications click here: http://www.ssangyonggb.co.uk/Korando-Technical

5 year limitless mileage warranty

All models in the SsangYong range are covered by a best-in-class 5 year limitless mileage warranty.  Designed to be totally transparent and give customers complete peace of mind, ‘limitless’ means just that: not a maximum mileage condition that some brands impose in their small print.

All the major mechanical components are covered including wheel bearings, suspension joints and bushes, steering joints, shock absorbers and even the audio system.  Wearable components such as clutch discs and brake friction materials which could have their life reduced by poor driving are covered for one year or 12,000 miles, and the battery and paintwork for three years.

SsangYong

SsangYong cars are manufactured in South Korea by SsangYong Motor, which is 73 per cent owned by the Indian engineering conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra, and imported into the UK by SsangYong Motor UK.  Established in 1954 it is Korea's oldest vehicle manufacturer and only 4x4 and SUV specialist producer.

There are currently some 60 SsangYong dealers covering England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with new locations being added to the network all the time.
LCV range
  • Korando CS & CSX - 2 & 4 wheel drive, from £12,995 ex VAT
  • Korando Sports pick up - 4 wheel drive, from £15,042 ex VAT
  • Rexton W CSX - 4 wheel drive, from £18,495 ex VAT

MG celebrates handing over substantial sum of money to charity after Coffee Morning & other activities

  • Over £500 raised at MG factory Macmillan Coffee Morning last week
  • Visitors to factory donate to charity when visiting for weekly site tours
  • MG are supporting Macmillan Cancer Support and Acorns Children’s hospice in 2014
MG is delighted to announce that following a highly successful Macmillan Coffee Morning held at the factory, visitors to the iconic Longbridge site have now helped to raise over £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support in 2014.
Every week MG opens the doors to its Birmingham site and allows members of the public to visit the home of the MG brand and the SMTC UK centre for design, engineering and assembly.  There is also an on-site dealership displaying the full range of current models and a small museum featuring some iconic models from both MG and previous brands built at the Longbridge site.  The tour is free, however visitors are asked to make a donation, the proceeds of which are then split between MGs chosen charities. For 2014 MG is supporting Macmillan Cancer Support and Acorns Children’s Hospice in Birmingham.

Visitors include various MG car clubs from around the country, student groups from the UK and abroad, private clubs and owners of current and historic MG products. The tour has become a ‘must’ for all MG enthusiasts, with hundreds attending every year. Tours last for approximately two hours and spaces can be booked online atwww.mg.co.uk/factory-tours.
MG Motor UK HR Manager, Louise Carter handed over the latest donation to Emily Morgan, Fundraising Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, following the factory’s Coffee Morning event where over 100 people attended, raising over £500 on the day.  Louise said: “We are delighted that visitors to the site enjoy their tours and want to make a donation to charity as part of the process, enabling us to help such a great cause as Macmillan Cancer Support.”
MG has many reasons to celebrate this year, the iconic marque’s 90th anniversary year, as the Midlands based manufacturer is also currently topping the list for growth within the automotive industry, and has been named the fastest growing automotive brand in the UK by SMMT every month so far in 2014. MG’s parent company, SAIC Motor, recently entered the Global Fortune top 100 with the company’s tenth appearance in the annual Fortune 500 list, moving up 18 places from last year’s result to reach 85th position, with 2013 yearly sales revenues of $92 billion, and MG’s rapidly expanding dealer network now exceeds 50 dealers, with just under 50 per cent of UK households now within a 30 minute drive of an MG dealer.
Success has been due to the recent launch of the MG3 supermini and expansion of the MG6 diesel powertrain family, with a new 129g, 350 Nm performance diesel recently added. Voted by customers as the winner of Best Handling and sixth overall Best Car to Own in the 2014 Auto Express Driver Power Awards, the MG6 is already a favourite with MG owners for its drivability, affordability and exceptionally high levels of equipment included as standard. Now the MG6 is even more appealing as all specifications are available from just £15,455 to £19,995, and with the current ‘High 5’ offer, MG6 customers can buy and drive away with five years of complete peace of mind.
Launched in September 2013, the MG3 benefits from an ultra low 4E insurance group, strong residuals of up to 61 per cent, exceptional interior and boot space, class leading chassis and driving dynamics and high levels of equipment on all specifications as standard. There are also over one million personalisation options and exceptional value for money aftercare packages to choose from. The MG3 is priced from only £8,399 to £9,999, or from zero percent deposit PCP from only £99 a month or from zero deposits.

MG selling one car a day, for 90 days, meaning someone will win a free car.

TMW THOUGHTS

Ummm, a press release extoling the virtues that MG might sell a car a day for 90 days, can you see ANY other brand doing that, no, MG in the UK has this habit of throwing out press releases for the most stupid things, this one is up there with the best, or worst as it may seem.

This offer, although a decent one, is a bit daft, you have to buy a brand new car first, once you have purchased one of these new 90th anniversary edition cars, your name goes in a pot, and as long as they sell all 90 units in or under 90 days, one name will be pulled out of this pot, and you will win another new car, how many people really want two brand new cars, let alone be able to afford it, why not just offer either a free upgrade, or your money back, personally i owuld rather be upgraded to teh top of the range MG6, and have a magnette version, but hey, thats just me.

There are a few rumours doing the rounds at the moment, with the main one being the complete deletion of the MG6 from the UK market, i would not be surprised it this were true, MG UK likes to register cars and then sell them off to Motorpoint for a fiver a car, well, a that might be a bit harsh, lets say a tenner, this might be true, when you consider that the once rumoured arrival of of teh MG5, now renamed MG GT, was catagorically denied.

But this new car has been doing the rounds at Longbridge, with a photoshoot over the road, could this be in readiness for a UK launch, maybe, but this car will need to be tweeked a bit first, mainly the rear end which is probably one of teh most ungainly rear ended cars around at the moment, and on a par with the last generation Ford Scorpio, and we know what happened there.
