Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

Even more power for the BMW M masterpiece
.
The BMW M5 Competition Edition uses an even more powerful version of the twin-turbo V8 found in the standard BMW M5.

While retaining the M TwinPower Turbo technology, twin-scroll turbochargers, high-precision direct fuel injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve control and the cross-bank exhaust manifold of the standard car, the Competition Edition runs more boost courtesy of a recalibrated ECU.

Maximum power is up from 560hp to 600hp, with the peak torque of the V8 rising from 680Nm to 700Nm.

As a result, the M5 Competition Edition can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds, compared to 4.4 seconds for the standard car. Top speed is electronically limited to 155mph.

With BMW’s seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission Drivelogic and Efficient Dynamics technology, including engine Auto Start-Stop and Brake Energy Regeneration, the M5’s fuel consumption remains at an impressive 28.5mpg, given its extreme performance, while CO2 emissions are 231g/km.

The M Competition Package fitted as standard for race-bred chassis dynamics.

The renowned sporting qualities of the BMW M5 have been further honed on the Competition Edition with the adoption of the M Competition Package as standard equipment.

This consists of stiffer responses from the springs and electronically controlled dampers, along with thicker anti-roll bars. The Active M electronically controlled multi-plate limited slip differential, which intervenes rapidly and precisely at an early stage to control wheelspin and keep the car stable, is re-calibrated for an even more sporty response.

Once again, there are three Drive Control settings to choose from: Comfort for normal road use, Sport when a more dynamic driving style is preferred and Sport Plus for the most extreme driving, such as on a race track. Six-piston caliper brakes are mounted within 20-inch M Double-spoke 601M light alloy wheels, finished in high gloss Jet Black.

The unmistakeable look of a pure sports saloon.

The familiar yet powerful presence of the BMW M5 is further emphasised on the M5 Competition Edition thanks to the use of BMW M Performance Parts. These consist of a rear spoiler, rear diffuser and mirror caps all manufactured from carbon fibre, and a gloss black kidney grille. Just two colours are available – Mineral White and Carbon Black – with the ‘M5 Competition’ logo appearing on the famous side ‘gills’.

High level of standard specification and a driver-focused ambience for the ultimate M5.

The BMW M5 Competition Edition comes with an extensive range of equipment including Adaptive LED headlights, Reversing Assist camera, powered bootlid operation, Comfort Access and sun protection glass.

Inside, occupants benefit from front and rear heated seats, an electric rear sunblind and can experience supreme listening through the Bang & Olufsen Advanced audio system.

The BMW M5 Competition Edition also benefits from full Black Merino leather upholstery with Opal White contrast stitching. Opal White is also used for the ‘M5’ logo that now appears on the head restraints of the M Sport multi-function seats, and for the piping of the anthracite floor mats.

To accentuate the exclusivity of the car, the M Performance interior trim in carbon finish features the ‘M5 Competition’ logo along with the unique “1/200” designation.

The BMW M5 Competition Edition is on sale now priced at £100,995 OTR.

Special Edition "Mille Miglia 417" acknowledges Mercedes past with the latest SL550.

Mercedes-Benz celebrates the 60th anniversary of a memorable motor racing success with an extraordinary special model of the SL Roadster. Its name commemorates the unexpected victory of a 300 SL in the production sports cars class at the 1955 "Mille Miglia", one of the world's most challenging long-distance races.

What's more: the SL Special Edition "Mille Miglia 417" provides a special experience of the unique symbiosis of maximum comfort and motor racing spirit that traditionally characterizes every SL. The Special Edition adds a distinctive note, among other things, with red exterior highlights and fine materials in the exclusively appointed interior.

The Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster is more than an icon. Passion shapes its character and its charisma – in the past and today. Legendary vehicles and their stories dominate the model history. One of them is told by the SL that started the famous "Mille Miglia" in 1955 with race number 417 at 4:17 am.

After 11 hours, 29 minutes and 21 seconds it had completed the race distance of 1597 kilometres on public roads from Brescia to Rome and back. Driven by the American private driver John Fitch with assistance from his co-driver Kurt Gessl, it crossed the finish line to great acclaim in fifth place of the overall standings and as the winner of the production sports cars, leaving numerous racing prototypes behind. Production 300 SL cars also took second and third place in this class.

After 60 years the new SL Special Edition "Mille Miglia 417" now expresses the laudatory proclamation about this victory and the car with race number 417. For this reason Mercedes-Benz also integrated the legendary number "417" into the badge of this special model as a reminder – a symbol for the passion that helps shape the charisma of every SL Roadster.

Performance, pronounced sportiness and innovative roadster comfort are hallmark fundamental features that also distinguish the Special Edition "Mille Miglia 417". The eight-cylinder engine in the SL550 with 429 hp enables top sporting performance. The standard ESP® Curve Dynamic Assist and an adaptive adjustable damping system deliver sporty lateral dynamics while offering outstanding comfort at the same time.

The design of the Mille Miglia Edition meets high aesthetic standards and underscores its spirit with stylish red highlights. Red is the color of the lip on the front spoiler, and a red trim strip on the rear spoiler contrasts with the matte carbon. Red brake callipers gleam through the spokes of the black AMG Performance wheels, which sport subtle red surrounds and have diameters of 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear.

The Special Edition "Mille Miglia 417" comes standard with a designo night black magno matte paint finish. The designo paintwork lends the vehicle an individual and exclusive character.

Mercedes-Benz has further upgraded the luxurious yet sporty interior with fine materials and meticulous master craftsmanship. The AMG Line seats as well as the black center console with contrasting inlays and red edging are eye-catching features. The leather headrests feature an embossed carbon structure and an embroidered "SL Mille Miglia" label.

Red edging also outlines the black door center panels with red armrests and red seatbelts also adorn the interior. The easy-to-grip steering wheel is wrapped in red and black nappa leather with sporty embossed carbon structure which bolsters the sporty ambience. The trim elements have a matte carbon finish. The black floor mats with red edging sport an embroidered "1000 Miglia" label.

The SL Special Edition "Mille Miglia 417" will be available as an SL550 in the U.S.  in the fall of 2015, and pricing will be announced closer to the market launch.

ANDERS KIRK JOHANSEN introduces the Viking Concept Motorcycle, Dsigned by Henrik Fisker.

  • Premium concept motorcycle unites two of Denmark’s most innovative industry names: Anders Kirk Johansen and Henrik Fisker
  • Viking Concept design study indicates possible future direction for bespoke Danish custom bike builder, Lauge Jensen
  • Viking Concept is the first motorcycle to be Euro IV compliant without compromising the character and soul of the V-twin engine
  • Signature Fisker design strengths applied to a motorcycle for the first time
Lauge Jensen motorcycles is today unveiling the Viking Concept at the Top Marques luxury brands show in Monaco.

This premium motorcycle is a design study that blends the talents of two of Denmark’s most creative talents: Anders Kirk Johansen, an industrialist whose family invented LEGO™, and renowned vehicle designer Henrik Fisker.
The Viking Concept points to a possible volume-production direction for Johansen’s Lauge Jensen brand, following his acquisition of the company in 2012.
Johansen commissioned world-renowned automotive designer Henrik Fisker, previously a design chief at both BMW and Aston Martin and the designer of the Fisker Karma, to design the Viking Concept.

The result is a bike that retains a classic cruiser look sculptured into a dynamic, flowing design. In particular the tank, seat and rear fender blend together to create a seamless effect. Fisker believes this to be unique in custom motorcycles.
The Viking Concept is powered by a 45-degree V-twin producing 100hp, making the bike capable of more than 130mph. Yet it’s the first motorcycle of its type to comply with new, much more stringent Euro IV emissions regulations that come into effect in 2016.
The engine, built in Wisconsin, USA, has been carefully developed and tuned to achieve this without losing its trademark V-twin sound or soul.

Johansen and Lauge Jensen are proud to have achieved the new emissions targets without compromising the engine’s performance, safeguarding the production and character of future products.
Lauge Jensen currently produces the limited edition Great Dane custom cruiser, which starts from €42,800 euros. The company intends to build a bike based on the Viking Concept at higher volumes and with a lower price tag than the Great Dane.

Commenting on the design collaboration, Anders Kirk Johansen says: ‘We have been developing the Viking Concept for some time, so I am delighted to reveal it today here in Monaco. Potentially, it’s the next step for our company beyond our limited production Great Dane custom bike.
‘It’s great to have Henrik, one of the world’s leading vehicle designers and a fellow Dane working in partnership with us to help create a really special, emotional design. Revealing a concept bike is all about gauging demand but, if it’s there, I look forward to producing the Viking Concept for the mainstream market.’

Henrik Fisker added: ‘It’s been a dream of mine to design and create a motorcycle for many years and this is the first time I have the freedom to go and do it.

‘I hope people like what we have created and that we can make more of them – for sure there’s plenty more to come from this collaboration between myself and Anders.’

BMW Motorrad sees significant gains in worldwide sales.

In the first three months of this year BMW Motorrad sales were higher than ever before in a first quarter. Supplies as of March came to a total of 28,719 vehicles (previous year: 24,732 units), making for an increase in sales of 16.1%. 15,183 motorcycles and maxi scooters (previous year: 13,067 units) were supplied to customers worldwide last month. With an increase of 16.2% as compared to the previous year, this was the best monthly sales performance in the history of the company.

Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad Head of Sales and Marketing: "We got off to an excellent start to the new motorcycle season with a sales increase of 16.1% as of March. In the first three months of this year we have supplied more motorcycles and maxi scooters than ever before in a first quarter. What is more, last month was the most successful in the company's history with 15,183 vehicles sold and an increase of 16.2%. Never before have we sold as many vehicles in March."

The positive result was due to the high level of demand worldwide. The first quarter was pleasing in Europe, too. The southern European markets are seeing significant growth as compared to the previous year. The strongest individual market for BMW Motorrad continues to be Germany, followed by the US, France, Italy, Brazil and Spain.

"Based on this excellent quarterly result we have positive expectations of the upcoming months," concluded Heiner Faust.
