SUMMARY:

Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured February 4, 2008, to December 3, 2009. The protective coating may not have been properly applied to the air bag control unit (ACU) and, as a result, moisture may damage the unit causing it to malfunction.

CONSEQUENCE:

Failure of the ACU would illuminate the air bag warning light and prevent the air bags from deploying in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

REMEDY:

Mazda dealers will replace the ACU, free of charge, however parts are not currently available. Mazda will send interim notifications to owners beginning October 3, 2016 and will mail a second notice when remedy parts are available. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. USA RECALL #1 - Mazda recalls various Mazda6 models for possible corrosion on the airbags.

On August 10, 2016, Mazda Motor Corporation filed a safety defect report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to address a concern with certain 2009-2010 Mazda6 vehicles.

On the affected Mazda6 vehicles, due to insufficient protective coating on the air bag control unit power supply, moisture could enter the unit and cause corrosion, causing the unit to malfunction and turning on the air bag warning light.

Continued driving in this condition could potentially cause the air bags to not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Approximately 41,000 vehicles are affected in the U.S.

There are no reports of accidents or injuries.

Mazda North American Operations is headquartered in Irvine, Calif., and oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States and Mexico through more than 700 dealers. Operations in Mexico are managed by Mazda Motor de Mexico in Mexico City.

USA RECALL - JEEP - The Cherokee is being recalled for moisture ingress on power Tailgate modules/Components.

FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 32,784 SUVs in the U.S. to install improved shields that better protect their power liftgate control modules, and related components, from moisture.

 

Shields used for vehicles produced after Feb. 18, 2015, functioned as a moisture barrier for the bottom sections of liftgate control modules. The intent was to protect the modules from the most likely sources of moisture exposure, a condition that may lead to short-circuit, creating a fire hazard.

 

But two complaints involving vehicles in this population led to an FCA US investigation. The probe determined improved shields developed for a June recall affecting vehicles produced before Feb. 18, provide greater protection.

 

FCA US is unaware of any related injuries or accidents. This latest campaign affects certain model-year 2015 and 2016 Jeep Cherokee SUVs, but is limited to vehicles equipped with power liftgates.

 

An estimated 10,138 customers are affected in Canada, along with an estimated 924 in Mexico and 11,841 outside the NAFTA region.

 

All affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service. If the modules show signs of water exposure, they will be replaced. All recall-related work will be performed free of charge.

 

In the interim, the cargo areas of 2015 Cherokees equipped with power liftgates should be monitored and kept dry. Customers with questions may call the FCA US Customer Information Center at 1-800-853-1403.

USA - RECALL - NISSAN - Rogue, Pathfinder and Infiniti JX35 SUV's for various issues.

Nissan Motor Co. is recalling about 768,000 vehicles, including its popular Rogue crossover and Pathfinder SUV, for separate problems, the company and U.S. regulators said today.

Some 552,135 Rogues from model years 2008 and 2013 will be recalled because moisture could seep through the driver side floor and cause an electrical short to wiring that could lead to a fire, Nissan and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said. Of the total, 468,815 are registered in the United States.

No crashes or injuries have been reported due to the wiring issue, a Nissan spokesman said.

Also, 215,789 Pathfinder SUVs from the 2013 and 2014 model years and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles will be recalled for problems related to a secondary hood latch, Nissan and NHTSA said. Of that total, 170,665 are registered in the United States.

A Nissan spokesman said the problem was noticed primarily in rental vehicles when drivers unintentionally dislodged the secondary hood latch, which is designed to catch the hood from flying up if the primary hood latch is disengaged. In a handful of occasions, damage was done to the vehicles when the hood flew open, but there were no reports of crashes or injuries, the spokesman said.

In Canada, 52,312 Rouge crossovers will be recalled as well as 15,972 Pathfinder and JX35 SUVs. The Rogue will be recalled in three additional countries and the SUVs in 30 additional countries, Nissan said.
