“Jeep has a long and illustrious off-road history,” said Damien Dally, head of brand, Jeep UK. “In our 75th year, a landmark moment, it seems fitting that we’ve demonstrated that our vehicles really do go anywhere and can do anything by creating the world’s first pop-up dealership which you can only get to in a 4x4.”

In its 75-year history, Jeep never has been in better shape than it is right now.

In its 75-year history, Jeep never has been in better shape than it is right now.
The reason? Current owner Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has accomplished what a succession of previous owners only dreamed of: truly globalizing one of the world's most storied automotive brands.
Worldwide, Jeep's deliveries in 2015 topped 1.2 million vehicles, its fourth consecutive record year for global production and sales.

Jeep Renegades are now built in Europe (Italy), South America (Brazil) and Asia (China) for sale in those regional markets. By the end of the year, production of the replacement for the Jeep Compass will begin in Brazil and China, as well as Mexico. Jeep-branded vehicles also will soon begin rolling into India, with local production slated to begin in 2017.
Meanwhile, sales in Jeep's largest and most profitable market, the United States, are up 17 percent through June over record 2015 sales.
Jeep's lineup also is expanding. Brand head Mike Manley said last month that luxury full-size SUVs under the storied Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer names will return with the development of a redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2019. On the other end of the size spectrum, a micro-segment Jeep, smaller than the Renegade, is under strong consideration, primarily for markets outside North America.
Meanwhile, FCA is expanding production capacity of its profit-rich Wrangler by at least 50 percent, allowing the brand to fulfill what it sees as unmet domestic and international demand. The added capacity also will allow for the return of a pickup to the Jeep lineup for the first time since 1996.
CEO Sergio Marchionne says Jeep is the engine that keeps his company going, no matter how tough the economic circumstances become.
"One of the things that we've always faced in the United States in the production of Jeeps is to make this unfortunate Sophie's Choice about whether we sell in the U.S. or whether we sell overseas," Marchionne explained this year. "In the last probably three or four years especially, we've been forced to make choices about which markets get allocated product.
"Even if there were to be a contraction of the U.S. market, there is unexplored potential in terms of outside U.S. markets, especially where we have not established local production," he said.
"Anything which relates to either a Cherokee or a Grand Cherokee and eventually a Wagoneer or Wrangler will have additional means of expression in international markets."

Jeep launches a new Top of the range Cherokee Overland to it's range of capable and functional off road cars.

Plans to expand the popular Jeep Cherokee range of 4x4 vehicles are announced today with details of a luxury new ‘Overland’ version.
The new top-of-the-range model, which made its International debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, is a 16MY model, and provides sophisticated style, elegant interiors, premium equipment with, of course, the Jeep brand's legendary off-road prowess.

Packed with a host of standard equipment, the new Jeep Cherokee Overland comes equipped with a 2.2-litre MultiJet II 200 horsepower turbo diesel engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission in either Active Drive I or Active Drive II 4WD.
The potent engine gives the car a 0-62mph time of 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 127mph. The Euro 6 unit has a 149g/km CO2 figure, due to an improved final drive ratio when compared with the MY15 Cherokee, and a fuel economy of 50.4 mpg.
The stylish new addition features a polished bright front grille, new body-coloured door cladding, front and rear bumpers and wheel arches, new 18-inch polished bright aluminium wheels, standard HID bi-xenon headlamps, and is finished with an Overland badge on the tailgate.
The car comes in a range of colours: Deep Cherry Red, Bright White, Brilliant Black and Billet Silver.
Its refined looks are complemented by a long list of premium enhancements, including powered Nappa leather ventilated and heated driver and front passenger seats with four-way lumbar adjustment, memory driver’s seat and mirrors, a new steering wheel with wood insert, anodized silver bezels and vent surrounds, and Berber floor mats.
The interior is available in Morocco Black Nappa Leather, or in a brand new Pearl coloured Nappa Leather finish. Both interiors have no additional cost and both carry the signature Overland logo in premium stitching on the front seats.
Entertainment comes courtesy of a powerful Alpine Premium sound system, while there’s also a Uconnect radio with 8.4-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth and GPS navigation.
The equipment level on the Cherokee Overland continues with, as standard, a stylish panoramic sunroof, power tailgate and ParkSense front and rear reverse assist system.
Pricing for the new Jeep Cherokee Overland is as follows:
2.2 MultiJet II 200hp Overland Active Drive I 4WD 9 speed automatic   £38,745
2.2 MultiJet II 200hp Overland Active Drive II 4WD 9 speed automatic £39,950

Jeep marks it's 75th anniversary by becoming the sponsor of the Bournemouth Wheels Festival 2016.

The 4x4 brand has signed up to appear at this week’s (3-5 June) Wheels 2016, the Bournemouth Wheels Festival, on England’s south west coast. The festival spans large parts of Bournemouth’s seafront including the famous resort’s sandy beach, on which Jeep will demonstrate its award-winning 4x4 models’ off-road ability.

The date 5 June also officially marks the 75th Anniversary of Jeep in this 2016 celebration year, so the Bournemouth event carries even more importance for the US brand.
With more than just a ‘stand’ appearance, Jeep will be fully interactive, with its entire range on display, including the Hardcore 4x4 of the Year* Wrangler, 4x4 of the Year* Renegade, legendary Cherokee and Grand Cherokee ‘the most-awarded SUV’. Special 75th Anniversary editions of the Renegade and Cherokee models will be shown, while models from the entire range will be available to take lucky visitors for obstacle course rides along the beach.
A full selection of merchandise, sales literature and technical experts will also be available during the motor-mad weekend.
“We are delighted to be taking part at this year’s Bournemouth Wheels Festival,” says Damien Dally, head of brand, Jeep UK. “It’s a large and well-supported show which will allow us to showcase our ever-popular range of Jeep vehicles, including Grand Cherokee which was recently named among the Top 10 best cars to own in the UK**.
“The beach will allow us to demonstrate Jeep’s amazing ability in the sand, and I am sure that all show-goers – families, off-road enthusiasts and car fans – will find something to interest them from Jeep.”
Jeep is currently building on a hugely successful 2015. A record-breaking total of 10,794 units made Jeep the fastest-growing car brand in the UK last year.
The Bournemouth Wheels Festival takes place from 3 to 5 June 2016.

USA - FCA recalls the Jeep Cherokee to replace the half shafts after some were found to be prone to breakage.

FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 82 SUVs in the U.S. to replace their half-shafts.

A supplier advised FCA US of an inadvertent variation in its manufacturing process. Some of these may be subject to breakage and an investigation discovered they were installed on SUVs produced over 20-day period spanning September and October of 2015.

FCA US is unaware of any related injuries, accidents, customer complaints or warranty claims. Nor is the Company aware of any component failures.

Half-shafts accommodate propulsion by transmitting torque to a vehicle’s wheels.

Affected by this campaign are certain model-year 2016 Jeep Cherokee SUVs. Two additional trucks are subject to recall in Canada, along with an estimated 28 outside the NAFTA region.

Service availability is imminent. Affected customers will be advised when they may contact their dealers.

Customers with questions may call the FCA US Customer Care Center at 1-800-853-1403.

Jeep has nine key vehicles that have defined the brand, from the very first Willy's to today's Renegade.

  • Nine key vehicles mark fundamental stages in the history of the legendary Jeep® brand
  • From utility to recreational: a true pioneer in terms of ability to anticipate market trends
  • The first stage of a gripping “journey” exploring the Jeep brand, which will be enhanced by new texts, photos and videos every month. The next episode will be devoted to the iconic Wrangler
The Jeep® brand history can be traced through 9 fundamental vehicles that not only marked milestones in the Jeep legend, but also allowed to have a pioneering role in terms of introduction of new models and segments in the automotive industry.

These 9 milestone models showcase how the Jeep brand has been a key player in the evolution of the SUV industry and of its sub-segments. From 1941, when the first Willys-Overland rolled off the assembly line to today, the ‘Jeep’ vehicles have been transformed into a faithful work companion in farmhouses, recreational family vehicle and premium car for city customers, anticipating the needs of the customers and introducing important elements of innovation in the market place.
The Jeep legend starts with the Willys-Overland MA/MB (1941-1945). In 1940, with war raging in Europe, the U.S. Government issued a requisition for a ‘light reconnaissance vehicle’ for the Army and invited 135 manufacturers to bid on production. Willys-Overland won the contract with its “MA” design of 1941 (where ‘M’ stands for military and ‘A’ indicates the series number). This early prototype led to the production of the Overland MB: the authentic forerunner of the Jeep legend. Willys trademarked the name after the war and turned the Jeep into an off-road civilian utility vehicle for the farm.
With the 1945-1949 Jeep CJ-2A, the Jeep brand introduced the first modern mass production off-road vehicle, (where CJ stands for Civilian Jeep) and in the same years found inspiration to create the first SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), thanks to the launch of the (Jeep) Willys  Wagon (1946-1965).
First introduced in 1946, the Willys Wagon made an important contribution to the evolution of the SUV, being the industry’s first all-steel-bodied station wagon, sold as a non-commercial vehicle. Featuring room for 7 passengers, the Wagon also introduced the concept of a multifunctional sports vehicle, offering functionality, versatility and 4x4 capability, all in the same package. In 1949, the four-wheel drive system was introduced for the first time to this model, allowing to combine for the first time four-wheel drive to a station wagon body, and therefore to pioneer the category of the Sport utility vehicles.
In 1955, the CJ-5 is launched (1955-1983). Improvements in engines, axles, transmissions and seating comfort contributed to make it the ideal vehicle to satisfy the public's growing interest in off-road vehicles for recreational usage, allowing the brand to pioneer this vehicle category. But a milestone innovation was still to come: when in 1963, the Jeep Wagoneer (1963-1983) was launched, the brand could proudly claim the creation of the premium Large SUV. An all-new vehicle from the ground up, the Wagoneer represented also the first time a manufacturer mated an automatic transmission to the four-wheel-drive system. And this was not the only revolution. The Jeep Wagoneer was also the first four-wheel-drive vehicle equipped with an independent front suspension and it also featured the first automatic full-time four-wheel-drive system (Quadra-Trac®) introduced in 1973. Later in 1984, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer (1984-1991) was introduced, replacing the Wagoneer. This model became a premium lifestyle vehicle, popular with celebrities and the general public until the end of its run.
In 1974, the first Cherokee model (SJ  -1974-1983) is produced. This two-door off-road vehicle was based on the Wagoneer, without offering all premium features of that model. Indeed, the Cherokee aimed at attracting a younger public than the Wagoneer and was built to answer the requests of the growing recreational vehicle market.  A next major step in the evolution of the Jeep SUV came with the launch of the second generation of Cherokee in 1984 (XJ - 1984-2001). With this model, that was the first SUV with a uni body, the Jeep brand introduced a further revolution in the market and created the new category of the compact SUVs .
The last step taken from the Jeep brand was to reinvent the SUV that it had created almost 45 years before. With its introduction in mid-1992, the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee model set a new standard in terms of craftsmanship and refinement in the premium Large SUV market. This vehicle, meant to become the flagship of the brand, was the first SUV to be equipped with a standard driver-side air bag, as well as the first to offer three different four-wheel-drive systems. Another major feature was the Quadra-Trac, a four-wheel-drive system that reacted automatically to road conditions without the driver’s need to shift. Grand Cherokee defined in the years the new standard in terms of style, craftsmanship and performance in the premium Large SUV segment. Through three generations of Grand Cherokee (1999, 2005 and 2010), the Jeep brand enhanced its flagship with new technological features and refined its on and off-road driving performance to reach the excellence of the current model.
Technological innovation is also the hallmark of the Jeep models that were introduced after the Grand Cherokee. As a matter of fact, in 2013 with the launch of the new generation of Jeep Cherokee, the Jeep brand introduced the first rear axle disconnect in the mid-size SUV segment. This system reduces energy losses when it is not necessary to use the 4x4 mode, thus resulting in increased fuel efficiency. The new Cherokee is also the first mid-size SUV to feature a 9-speed automatic transmission. One year later the same technological innovations – rear axle disconnect and 9-speed gearbox - was introduced in the small SUV segment by the all-new Jeep Renegade, the compact SUV the marks the debut of the brand in the small SUV category. A ‘game changer’ as it has been defined, the Renegade fully represent the new ‘Jeep era’ and further confirm the brand’s pioneering role in the automotive history and its capability to anticipate trends and customers’ needs.
But this will be all in a new chapter of our ‘journey’ of exploration of the legendary Jeep brand.
Stay tuned!
