USA - AUDI announces pricing and specification of the all-new TT Model LIne.

  • The quintessential design icon boasts a new driver-focused interior and true sports-car performance
  • TT sets standards for in-vehicle technology with the Audi virtual cockpit - a fully digital instrument cluster
  • Virtual cockpit powered by first automotive NVIDIA® Tegra® 30 processor integration

Audi today announced pricing for the all-new 2016 Audi TT model line. The iconic vehicle boasts an exciting new design characterized by the use of innovative technologies and driver-focused performance.

Design and Body

The third generation TT pays tribute to its past where the model took the design world by storm, with a modern take on the bold original, with short overhangs, broad wheel arches and a lean a muscular stance.

Standard full LED headlamps exude modern sports car appeal, with a broader and flatter Singleframe® grille, sharp contours across the hood,  electric rear spoiler and new centrally mounted round exhaust tailpipes are an incorporated design cue from the iconic first generation model .

The all-new TT front end and floor assembly are made of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel components, while the superstructure comprises aluminum castings, extruded sections and panels. As with all Audi S models, the TTS receives additional differentiation that includes unique front bumper, quad exhaust tips and Alu-optic mirrors as well as standard S model specific sport seats with pneumatic side bolsters on the interior to mention a few.

The TTS also boasts 19-inch wheels and 13.3 inch front brakes with four-piston aluminum monobloc front calipers. The S model design elements paired with the powerful engine and the standard magnetic ride suspension make the TTS a true performance car for everyday use. TT is available in 10 different color options, including two specific TTS colors, Daytona Gray and Sepang Blue.

On both TT and TTS, the models maintain the iconic Alu-optic fuel cap with exposed bolts, reminiscent of the first generation Audi TT, and now offers capless refueling. Also available for 2016 is the Launch Edition TTS, boasting a Mythos Black exterior, Express Red Fine Nappa leather interior,  exclusive 19-inch five-arm facet design forged wheels, Piano Black decorative inlays, and an extended leather package which includes a leather wrapped airbag cap and instrument cluster hood. Production for the Launch Edition TTS will be limited to 75 units.

Interior

New HVAC controls eliminate the need for a conventional dash console and integrate fan speed, air vent selection and temperature directly into the center of the three central vents, further underlining the clean, uncluttered design of the interior. Controls for the standard heated seat controls are also integrated in the side air vents further eliminating buttons and switches from the interior.

An available Bang & Olufsen® Sound System with 680 watts features 5.1 Surround Sound, a 14-channel amplifier and 12 loudspeakers provides a stunning sonic experience. LED accent lighting surrounding the front door mounted speakers add to the interior ambiance.

Iconic Technology

The Audi TT revolutionizes the way the driver interacts with the vehicle through the innovative virtual cockpit. An entirely digital instrument cluster, the virtual cockpit replaces traditional gauges and interfaces for a customizable driving experience.

Unveiled at the 2015 Consumer Electronic Show, the virtual cockpit combines the functions of a central MMI® system with a conventional instrument cluster in one unique, 12.3-inch 1440x540 pixel TFT display with superb 3D graphics and brilliant clarity.

For seamless processing speed, the quadcore Tegra 30 processor from the Tegra 3 series from NVIDIA is utilized. With a processing speed of over one gigahertz, the four-core chip can work together with a special 3D graphics program to perform more than eight billion computing operations per second.

The graphics processor generates 60 frames per second, helping ensure the needles of the speedometer, rev counter and navigation are displayed with absolute precision and move naturally without any lag. Google Earth™ maps appear across the entire virtual cockpit and resolve nearly instantaneously when zooming in and out or when making menu selections.

The all-new Audi TT will also feature the most advanced version of Audi connect®, including picture navigation, read-aloud news headlines, Facebook® and Twitter® alerts, access to more than 7,000 Web radio stations, personalized RSS news feeds and more.

Audi connect is powered by 4G LTE and includes an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot for passenger devices. A newly-designed MMI system streamlines the data entry process with an MMI Touch pad and MMI navigation plus with voice control for compatible devices.

On the TT Roadster model, voice control is achieved through driver seatbelt mounted microphones.

The Audi virtual cockpit can be fully controlled by the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel or via the MMI controls in the center console which includes the MMI touch pad integrated into the console’s rotary dial. TTS features a virtual cockpit “sport” display mode, which brings the tachometer and speedometer to the front and center of the display, and also includes a boost gauge and lap timer.

With the selection of the available Technology package, additional equipment is added including Audi MMI navigation plus, Audi connect® with online services, Auto-dimming / power-folding heated exterior mirrors, Parking system plus (front / rear acoustic sensors) with rearview camera, and Audi side assist.

Powertrain and Performance

The Audi TT Coupe and Roadster will feature a 2.0L TFSI® engine with 220 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque for a 0-60 time of 5.3 seconds (coupe) and 5.6 seconds (roadster).

The performance tuned Audi TTS Coupe will feature a 2.0L TFSI engine with 292 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque for a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds. All models offer standard Audi drive select and quattro® permanent all-wheel drive for exceptional dynamics, excellent traction and superb grip. In its first application, the Audi drive select system on the 2016 TT now allows the driver to adjust the quattro all-wheel drive system, as well as the shift points, throttle response, steering.

Taking this customization even further,  on the TTS, the standard magnetic ride suspension may also be adjusted by selecting between dynamic, auto, comfort and individual modes. The quattro system has been specifically tuned for the TT & TTS to continuously shift power to the wheels that grip and has a rear-wheel bias when the Audi drive select is in the dynamic mode.

The unique quattro calibration reads sensors 150 time every 10 milliseconds to optimally adjust power. This gives the quattro system the ability to shift up to 100% of power to the rear or the front axle when needed.

The TT will be available as coupe and roadster, and the TTS will be available as a coupe only. All TT models are standard with quattro® all-wheel drive mated to a six-speed dual clutch S tronic® transmission that provides smooth, quick shifts.

AUDI stars in the Marvel Movie "Avengers-Age Of Ultron", yes, it is the cars film and not the stars.

  • "Avengers: Age of Ultron," featuring A3 Cabriolet, TTS and R8, scores $191.3 million in first weekend
  • Audi dealers sponsored showroom screenings
  • Millions have viewed jointly produced Audi-Marvel online videos promoting the film

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” is piling up box-office receipts around the world and enjoyed a $191.3 million debut weekend in the United States, marking another huge success for Marvel and its stunning ability to turn comic-book heroes into big-screen superstars.

For Audi, the evolution of the Avengers franchise also is a major milestone, extending the brand’s partnership with Marvel that began with the Iron Man films. In “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Audi automobiles and brand excitement remain integral parts of the vibe of this film, just as in the three Iron Man movies.

In the latest installment of the Avengers franchise, Tony Stark – played, by Robert Downey Jr. – favors the R8. A scene involving the car even sets up the next Avengers movie. Dressed in street clothes, along with another superhero (identity protected here to prevent a spoiler), Stark summons the R8 to find him autonomously as it drives into the new headquarters of the Avengers squad. Other scenes feature an Audi A3 Cabriolet and the new Audi TTS. No other automotive brands are highlighted in the film, although there are of course other cars in scenes.

Audi has an auto-brand promotional exclusive with “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and the brand has been boosting that position for weeks now. An Audi TV commercial titled “Striking,” features the TTS, with scenes and music from the movie.

A related YouTube video, “Striking – Extended Version,” has garnered more than 6 million YouTube views. At the end of the video is a sneak peek at another Marvel movie due out this summer, “Antman,” a film that will feature an Audi A3 Cabriolet. In foreign markets, the car in the YouTube video is an R8, in part because the latest version of that car already is available outside the United States.

Audi also sponsored a “Superhero Marathon” on the FX television network on the last weekend in April. The network ran earlier versions of films starring Marvel characters such as Captain America and Thor. For the latest Audi magazine, Marvel created a custom comic that features the Audi TT and, in a cameo appearance, the Audi R8. Audi dealers across the United States sponsored screenings of the new movie in their showrooms.

And of all things, Stan Lee, creator of a Marvel cast of superheroes, starred in a humorous social-media video about the difference between cameo acting and regular acting. Lee, famous for making short appearances in each Marvel movie, as he does in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” is driven to and from Cameo School in an Audi S8. The video also has scored millions of views.

Today, Marvel announced the film’s premiere weekend was the second-biggest domestic opening weekend ever, and the worldwide box office total has climbed to $631.1 million since April 22. With Audi along for the ride, the movie seems to be on its way to one of the industry’s biggest box-office performances of all time.

AUDI TT Wins BBC TopGear Magazine Coupe of the Year awards

Top Gear team shows its approval for ground-up rework of Audi sports car with coveted award in annual honours
  • All new TT Coupé scoops Coupé of the Year accolade in BBC Top Gear Magazine’s annual awards
  • TT Coupé now available to order in the UK priced from £29,770 OTR to £35,335 OTR –  UK deliveries have now begun
  • 310PS TTS Coupe now available to order priced from £38,790 OTR – first deliveries in April
  • Sport and S line specification options and choice of 2.0 TFSI 230PS engine in conjunction with either front-wheel-drive or quattro all-wheel-drive and 2.0 TDI 184PS unit exclusively with front-wheel-drive
  • Efficiency-focused TT 2.0 TDI ultra combines 67.3mpg capability with CO2 output of just 110g/km, yet can also reach 62mph in 7.1 seconds and top out at 150mph
The magazine team known for pulling no punches in its car appraisals has been won over by the Audi sports car designed with an equally uncompromising approach – the all new Audi TT Coupé is BBC Top Gear Magazine’s Coupé of the Year.

The version of the new high-tech Audi sports car which was singled out for particular praise in the magazine’s awards citation is the remarkable new 2.0 TDI ultra, which with 184PS and 380Nm of torque has the necessary brawn to deliver performance which befits the breed, yet combines this with the potential to return a distinctly uncharacteristic 67mpg with CO2 emissions of just 110g/km.

The Top Gear Magazine test team showed its approval by writing: “The 2.0-litre in the TDI ultra is smooth, quiet and punchy, drives cleanly and is, maybe surprisingly, the version that impressed us m
ore. It doesn’t try hard to be great and so strikes a happy balance. Well done, Audi – this one’s a corker.”
The new Audi virtual cockpit which is a standard feature in all TT models also played a significant role in the judges’ decision.

Based around a 12.3-inch, high resolution LCD display that completely fills the driver’s instrument binnacle, it  replaces the traditional analogue dials with brilliantly sharp digital equivalents which can either fill the display or be minimised to make room for other functions, such as the media screens or navigation map. It also enables the driver to easily control the majority of functions via the multi-function steering wheel.

The Top Gear test team showed its appreciation for this classic embodiment of Vorsprung durch Technik by writing: “[The interior] works logically and brilliantly. Almost everything can be controlled by your thumbs on the wheel, it’s intuitive and attractive and really rather, well, wonderful.”

From 184PS to 310PS

Available in the UK now priced from £29,770 OTR and arriving with its first customers during this month, the TT Coupé envelops its all-digital virtual cockpit in a beautiful new body that is unmistakably TT but also distinctly contemporary. In addition to the 184 PS 2.0-litre TDI engine it also offers the option of state-of-the-art 230PS or 310PS versions of the 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine, the latter reserved for the TTS which is also now available and will reach its first UK customers in April.

All are underpinned by a completely new platform which sets new standards for handling agility and control, particularly when combined with the very latest evolution of the quattro all-wheel-drive system which is available for the 2.0 TFSI model and standard for the TTS.

Interior technology highlights common to the Sport and S line versions that make up the TT range  include the Multi Media Interface with the MMI touch pad for fingertip data entry, the Audi Music Interface, Bluetooth connectivity, the Audi drive select adaptive dynamics system and keyless go. Complementary comforts also include Alcantara and leather combination upholstery for the standard sports seats and air conditioning which can be adjusted via controls innovatively integrated into the air vents themselves.

Outside the cabin, the two specification levels include 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels, and Xenon or LED headlamps respectively, plus a speed-dependent active rear spoiler and sports suspension. S line versions with their exclusive S line body styling and dynamic rear ‘sweeping’ indicators also offer the no cost option to swap to tauter S line sports suspension bringing a further 10mm reduction in ride height.

The TTS Coupe offers its own exclusive specification adding ‘S-specific’ styling details inside and out and features such as Audi magnetic ride variable damper control, heated super sports seats upholstered in Fine Nappa leather and a bespoke version of the Audi virtual cockpit with a third, TTS-specific display setting.
