Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

Mercedes sets aside $560Bn dollars to pay for the Takata Airbag fixes that a large number of its models require.

Daimler said Thursday it would set aside around 500 million euros ($560 million) this year for the recall of some of its vehicles, which contain airbags made by Takata Corp.

The continued issues surrounding the airbag companies failure to get these faulty airbags replaced is becoming a major hindrance to many brands, and the costs associated with this problem is amounting to many billions of Dollars.

Earlier this month the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration disclosed an extension of the Takata airbag recall, which will take place in the period May 2016 to December 2019 in several stages.
Daimler said that it was not aware of any cases of defect, but that it would make precautionary recalls in the U.S. and Canada.
"Daimler AG will recognize a provision in the mid hundreds of million euros in the financial year 2016 in connection with the extended recall," the company said, adding that it would not have an impact on its operating profit for the year, which is still seen slightly higher than last year.

Jeep and Fiat both recall models for various issues, when will this recall culture stop !

Fiat Chrysler is recalling nearly 600,000 Fiat 500 subcompact cars and Jeep Wrangler SUVs worldwide in two actions.
FCA will recall 80,474 Fiat 500s from the 2012 to 2016 model years with manual transmissions globally to fix a glitch with the clutch release system.
FCA said an investigation found that clutch travel could "exceed design parameters," which can ultimately restrict gear shifts and propulsion. FCA said 0.01 percent of the recalled population had damage.

The recall does not affect cars with turbocharged engines.
No injuries or accidents related to the problem have been reported.
FCA said 39,217 of the cars are in the U.S., while 7,834 are in Canada, 7,155 are in Mexico and 26,268 are elsewhere.
Jeep recall
Additionally, 506,420 Wranglers are being recalled to inspect the clockspring, a part in the steering wheel that aids with airbag deployment.
FCA said in a statement that dust and dirt gathered from off-road driving can "compromise the clockspring and eventually prevent driver-side airbag deployment in a crash."
Compromised clocksprings will activate the Wrangler's airbag warning lamp, in which case drivers should notify a dealership, FCA said.
In the U.S., the recall includes 392,464 Wranglers from the 2007-10 model years and 7,435 from the 2011-16 model years with right-hand drive for special duty.

FCA estimates 35,412 of the recalled Wranglers are in Canada, 8,529 are in Mexico and 62,580 are elsewhere.
FCA said it is unaware of any injuries or accidents related to the clockspring issue. It discovered the problem following an investigation.
The automaker said it will install new steering-wheel back covers and steering-column shrouds on the affected SUVs after customers are notified.

For Gods Sake, when will these recalls end - Now AUDI recalls 850,000 cars

As each and every day passes, the recalls get more and more, and the size of those recalls grows too, so here we are today, now with AUDI, the German brand renown for quality, reliability and a great brand awareness, issues its own recall, and not just a few hundred, AUDI is recalling 850,000 A4 models from the 2012 facelift onwards.
Due to an issue in the programming of the airbag being faulty, this could cause the airbag not to deploy when it is required most, there has been very few incidents, but enough for there to be a full recall, the affected vehicles will be returned to the factory for there to be a thorough investigation, However, AUDI has not commented on whether the the faults present can lead to any injuries.

Recall affects 150,000 cars in Germany
The software glitch had been noticed during internal investigations during computer simulations, and, according to AUDI, all vehicles produced from Mid October 2014 are rectified, and will not be subject to any form of recall, the models that are affected are the 2012 facelift models encompassing Saloon (sedan), Estate (Avant) and the Allroad models, all owners will be contacted via their countries vehicle recall depts, NHTSA in the USA, VOSA in the UK, KBA in Germany and so on.
The repair, well, not really a repair, its just a few minutes on software updates, and thats it, should take a very short time to do, and will cost teh owners nothing to have done, but this is just a tiny drop in the ocean of recalls for this year, GM has issued recalls the world over amounting to millions of cars, as has Ford, Chrysler, Opel Mercedes, BMW and many many more.

USA - Chrysler recall #1 - 2014 Ram ProMaster full-size vans.

Chrysler Group is recalling an estimated 21,000 full-size vans – most of which were in dealer hands or in transit to dealers – to inspect and replace, if necessary, various electrical components that support propulsion, airbag deployment and/or external lighting.

Warranty data identified a small number of cases in which blown fuses were linked to moisture exposure. In each case, moisture that was brought into the vehicle via wet footwear or other means had seeped into an in-cabin compartment that houses its battery and other components.

Chrysler Group is unaware of any related injuries or accidents. There are no issues with the vehicle’s imperviousness to rain, snow or ice.

The electrical components will be inspected for signs of corrosion. Moisture-resistant sealant will be applied to all components, whether replaced or not.

Affected are 2014 Ram ProMaster full-size vans. An estimated 17,700 are in the U.S., 2,400 are in Canada and 900 are in Mexico. Most were in dealer hands or in transit to dealers as Chrysler Group was investigating.

Affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service. All related costs will be borne by Chrysler Group.

Customers who are concerned may call Chrysler Group’s Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-853-1403.
