Jaguar Land Rover opens search for over 200 apprentices in 2016

  • Jaguar Land Rover opens search for over 200 apprentices in 2016
  • A record 245 Advanced and Degree apprentices joined the company in 2015; 900 over the past five years
  • Skills Minister praises Jaguar Land Rover for backing the next generation of British talent
  • Apprentices “learn and earn” with sponsored degrees and NVQs
  • Opportunities in the Midlands and North West
  • New Jaguar Land Rover Academy offers recruits the chance of lifelong learning through their career with the company
Jaguar Land Rover has launched its recruitment drive for over 200 apprentices to join the company in September 2016.  The Government’s Skills Minister, Nick Boles, praised the UK’s largest automotive apprenticeship provider saying:
“Jaguar Land Rover is playing a leading role in backing the next generation of highly skilled workers. Their new apprentice intake will learn highly sought after skills whilst benefiting from earning a wage and some will even gain a degree.

“Jaguar Land Rover recognises the value apprenticeships bring to their business and productivity, this is why we are committed to delivering 3 million quality apprenticeships by 2020.”
Jaguar Land Rover is the largest apprenticeship provider in the UK automotive sector, currently accounting for approximately half of the total apprentices employed in that industry.  Applicants can choose from either the four year Advanced Apprenticeship aimed at GCSE students, leading to qualifications that include NVQ3; or the six year Degree Apprenticeship aimed at A-Level entrants and leading to a fully sponsored BEng degree in Applied Engineering from the University of Warwick.
Nick Rogers, Jaguar Land Rover's Engineering Director, is an inspirational role model for those considering an apprenticeship with the company.  Having joined Jaguar Land Rover straight from school as an apprentice, Nick went on to gain a degree in mechanical engineering and has risen through the company to his current position in charge of over 8,500 engineers and a place on the company's executive committee.  Reflecting on the apprenticeship scheme, Nick said:
“There has never been a better time to join Jaguar Land Rover as we continue to grow on the global stage.  We want to meet the next generation of engineers who are going to change the car industry in the next thirty years.  The Jaguar Land Rover apprenticeship programme offers a great mix of on-the-job experience and learning.  In order to continue our success, we are investing in the next generation of problem solvers, creative thinkers and future leaders.  Our engineers make the impossible possible.  Passionate, inquisitive and open-minded candidates are encouraged to join us and help shape the exciting future of Jaguar Land Rover."
Britain’s 2015 Apprentice of the Year is Alex Tomlinson, a fourth year Powertrain Degree Apprentice at Jaguar Land Rover's Whitley engineering centre in Coventry.  Further evidence of the company’s determination to find the very best apprentices, Alex was also named overall Best of British Engineering by sector skills council SEMTA.  Alex said:
“When I discovered Jaguar Land Rover ran a degree apprenticeship, it seemed too good to be true and I applied like a shot.  Not only is there the opportunity to gain sought-after qualifications without ending up with student debt, but you are paid at the same time.  It is much more suited to my style of learning – I can apply what we are being taught in the real world. And it is a huge bonus to be surrounded by people with many years of workplace experience who are keen to share their knowledge.”
The start of the 2016 recruitment campaign follows hot on the heels of the 2015 intake of 245 apprentices, who joined the company in September.  With some 900 advanced and degree apprentices having started their career with the company over the past five years, this year’s recruits were the first to start their training as part of the newly-launched Jaguar Land Rover Academy.  The Academy will offer training for employees at all stages of their working lives with Jaguar Land Rover, whether they are new recruits or more experienced employees seeking to move to the next level in the organisation.  Reflecting on the launch of the Academy and the start of the recruitment of apprentices, Kirsty Scott, HR Director, Organisation and Talent Development, said:
“We are investing heavily in employing and developing the highly skilled people that will help ensure our continued success.  Our Jaguar Land Rover Academy gives focus to that investment and we are proud to be leading the industry in this field.”

Bentley grows its employee base as it nears SUV production.

  • Over 140 new positions to strengthen core skills
  • 90 engineers to work on new vehicle projects
  • More than 50 apprentices form part of new apprenticeship scheme
Bentley Motors has today announced it is creating over 140 new jobs at its headquarters in Crewe. Recruitment includes 90 skilled engineers and 51 new apprentices, the biggest single apprentice intake in ten years.

The announcement follows on from Bentley’s record year in 2013, delivering 10,120 cars, the highest in the company’s 95-year history, and aim to reach 15,000 cars by 2018.

90 new engineers will work on an expanding model range, as part of a £800 million investment over three years on model and facility development. This will be in a number of engineering disciplines, including Chassis, Powertrain, Electrical, Body and Trim and Whole Vehicle.

Strengthening Bentley’s skill base not only in the immediate, but long-term will see the recruitment of 51 new apprentices in the 2014 intake. 40 of these will be part of a new dedicated manufacturing scheme focused on strengthening core skills as Bentley builds up to the introduction of the Bentley SUV, in 2016.

Bentley’s new manufacturing apprentice approach sees the introduction of dual education; a tailored method to vocational training based on competence profiles and dedicated placements within chosen professional areas in Manufacturing. Forming part of Bentley’s biggest focus on training and development, it is a significant step in the company’s overall people and development strategy.

Bentley’s engineers bring together anything from traditional skills associated with natural materials with the latest developments in powertrain technologies. An example of which Bentley recently displayed with the Bentley Hybrid Concept, while committing that 90% of Bentley’s production will be available with a plug-in hybrid option by the end of the decade.
The new engineers will help develop a new generation of Bentleys, which will share the same commitment to performance, quality and engineering excellence. Bentley is not just creating a new segment with the Bentley SUV, but developing its current model range, innovating with new products and new markets.

Bentley was recently named as one of Britain’s Top Employers for the third year running by the Top Employers Institute. Highlighted was Bentley’s dedication to the personal development, working environment and employee culture of the 3,700 colleagues who work at the Crewe headquarters.

Jaguar Land Rover launches 2014 apprenticeship program

  • Jaguar Land Rover launches its 2014 apprentice recruitment campaign in search for up to 150 new recruits
  • The company is looking to build on the number of female students undertaking the industry leading programme
  • Jaguar Land Rover also unveils a brand new initiative targeted at girls aged 10-14 in an effort to inspire engineering apprentices of the future

Jaguar Land Rover, the UK’s largest automotive apprenticeship provider today launches its 2014 apprenticeship recruitment campaign. The company is looking for up to 150 new recruits to join the 500 strong group currently undertaking the scheme across its five UK sites.

The award-winning Jaguar Land Rover apprenticeship programme provides students with a strong blend of real world experience and academic learning. Applicants can choose from either the 4 year Advanced Apprenticeship* aimed at GCSE students or the six year Higher Apprenticeship** aimed at A-Level entrants. In both cases, recruits can look forward to working alongside world-class engineers, in cutting-edge product development and manufacturing environments developing vehicles for two of the most iconic global motoring marques.

This year Jaguar Land Rover is calling on more young women to consider engineering careers and join a growing number of females choosing to work in the automotive sector.  There are currently 24 female engineers on Jaguar Land Rover’s pioneering apprenticeship programme and uniquely this includes twins, Bethan and Teresa Fernandes Phillips who joined the Halewood-based Advanced Apprenticeship scheme in September this year.

Commenting on the scheme Bethan said: "We have always had a passion for engineering and were keen to progress with careers in this area. The Jaguar Land Rover apprenticeship scheme provided us with the right blend of study and hands-on experience and we have already learned so much. The Advanced Apprenticeship has really given us a great platform to develop our knowledge and understanding of the business and we are excited for what the future has to hold."

Despite recruiting very strong candidates on to its apprenticeship programme, Jaguar Land Rover is committed to attracting more women into engineering roles and has developed a number of comprehensive initiatives to inspire young females. Today this commitment is extended further with the launch of its, ‘Inspiring Tomorrow’s Engineers: Girls in the Know’ initiative.

Jaguar Land Rover’s ‘Girls in the Know’ programme has been developed in partnership with Birmingham Metropolitan College with the aim of dispelling out-dated stereotypes associated with engineering and manufacturing. Today the company welcomed the first group of 12 local school children aged 10-14 to its Castle Bromwich Education Business Partnership Centre to see for themselves the wide range of engineering careers on offer at Jaguar Land Rover and showcase a number of engaging activities designed to bring engineering to life.

The ‘Inspiring Tomorrow’s Engineers: Girls in the Know’ initiative is an extension to Jaguar Land Rover’s successful ‘Young Women in the Know’ programme which has already engaged with more than 200 young women aged 16-18 and further compliments its ‘Engineering Network for Women’ and  ‘Women in Engineering Sponsorship Scheme’. Both programmes are designed to provide mentoring and practical support for female engineering students interested in pursuing a career in the automotive sector.

Commenting on the launch of the new programme, Mike Wright, Executive Director Jaguar Land Rover said: “The Automotive sector is incredibly competitive and never has the challenge and opportunity for engineers in this industry been greater. It is therefore critical that Jaguar Land Rover attracts the next generation of engineers and innovators to help our business achieve its ambitious plans for growth.

“To do this, we are fully committed to advancing the STEM agenda with the development of grass roots initiatives such as ‘Girls in the Know’. All of our programmes are designed to engage and nurture a future generation of talent, and for those who have been inspired to pursue a rewarding career in engineering there is Jaguar Land Rover’s industry leading apprenticeship programme.”
