NISSAN PULSAR LINE-UP CHANGES

Following the addition of N-Connecta to Juke and Qashqai, Nissan’s Pulsar is the latest model to carry the new trim grade.

The N-Connecta grade on Pulsar will be a direct replacement for the existing n-tec model, which will close to ordering once supply runs out.

Making Pulsar ownership even more accessible, a new entry-level price for the Visia DIG-T 115 Manual is now just £13,995, representing a £2,000 customer saving versus the previous price.

Vauxhall takes the top prize and a trio of other awards at this years Business Van Of The Year ceremony.

Vauxhall’s Brit-built Vivaro has been named overall winner at the Business Van Awards 2016, which were presented today in London.

Martyn Collins, editor for Business vans stated “Which van is great to drive, affordable to run, plus has a well-equipped interior that can double as an office? Ahead of the official UK launch of PEUGEOT’s performance model, the forthcoming 308 GTi by PEUGEOT SPORT, PEUGEOT UK took one of the first right hand drive production models in the country to the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham for a challenge to demonstrate the new model’s sporting credentials.  

Joining Peugeot at the 2000m lake was PowerboatGP – an organisation that stages a number of competition events and the annual F2 Nottingham Grand Prix championship at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham – who provided an F2 Powerboat. The two high performance machines were pitched against one another on two completely different surfaces.

Both have been developed to perform with great efficiency and with each having advantages for different elements of the challenge, the event revealed how closely matched the two machines were – the Powerboat, while quick off the start, was very closely matched by the highly-tractable 308 GTi car. While the Powerboat soon reached its terminal velocity, limited by surface conditions and wind direction, the GTi just kept accelerating, even on uneven surfaces, demonstrating the high levels of grip enhanced by its TORSEN differential.

Both are agile and responsive, the Powerboat able to turn within a few lengths, the Peugeot able to change directions on demand too, albeit driving around the perimeter of the main lake at the National Water Sports Centre (in Nottingham) had the longer route to overcome.

Finally, though the specially developed Michelin 235/35 R19 91Y Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres have much more friction than a propeller and therefore allows for greater propulsion, the boat is much lighter and smaller in frontal area, so has less to move in its quest for performance.  Equally, equipped with 380mm race-inspired brakes, it has the capability to arrest its speed should the need arise.

On the day, the 308 GTi was driven by Bradley Philpot, a PEUGEOT UK Brand Ambassador with its track cars and the F2 Powerboat piloted by Colin Jelf, an F2 champion. Bradley also has powerboat links – his grandfather, Robbie Hood, was a British open-water powerboat champion too.

Peugeot 208 with BlueHDi Diesel engine sets a new long-distance fuel consumption record, 141.2mpg.

A 1.6-litre BlueHDi 100 S&S PEUGEOT 208 has set a new long-distance fuel consumption record, under the supervision of the UTAC. An impressive 1,337.19 miles (2,152 kilometres) were covered on 9.45 gallons (43 litres) of Diesel, with an average fuel consumption of an amazing 141.2 mpg (2.0 l/100km). 

This record confirms the technological excellence of the latest Euro6 BlueHDi Diesel engines and their contribution to the reduction of CO₂ emissions.

This performance was achieved at the end of April on the PEUGEOT test circuit at Belchamp in France, supervised by the French Type Approval Authority, UTAC (Union Technique de l’Automobile, du motocycle et du Cycle). 

A strictly standard production PEUGEOT 208, with the 1.6-litre BlueHDi 100 S&S engine and 5-speed manual gearbox, ran for 38 hours and covered 2,152 kilometres while consuming little more than 9 gallons of fuel! In doing so, the new PEUGEOT 208 set an absolute long distance fuel consumption record for a standard production vehicle. 

Several drivers were used to arrive at this result, each taking a turn of 3 to 4 hours at the wheel during the scrutinised test.

The PEUGEOT 208 tested was a ‘Very Low Fuel Consumption’ version, available from the Dealer network as part of the extensive range. 

With an official Combined Drive Cycle fuel consumption figure of 94.2mpg (3.0 l/100km) and low CO₂ emissions of 79g/km, it takes its place as the world benchmark for a standard production model powered by an internal combustion engine. 

This version is characterised by the presence of an aerodynamic rear spoiler and the adoption of ultra-low rolling resistance Michelin Energy Saver+ tyres. These values are already exceptional, but combined with the dynamic qualities of the new PEUGEOT 208 – compact, light, fun to drive - they offer the potential to go even further. Challenge taken up, challenge convincingly won!

Associating SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and an additive particle filter in a unique way, the BlueHDi technology demonstrates once again that it is the most efficient and effective Diesel emissions control system on the market.

On sale in Europe from June and Autumn in the UK, the new PEUGEOT 208 offers both exceptionally economical and efficient Euro6 petrol and Diesel engines. As regards CO₂ emissions, the petrol range offers remarkably well-contained values from 97g/km while with Diesel, the BlueHDi range is now entirely below 95g/km.

PEUGEOT is rapidly reducing the CO₂ emissions of all of its vehicles in a tangible way. The accelerated implementation of the 3-cylinder PureTech petrol and BlueHDi Diesel engines, as well as the new 1.6 litre THP engines and the EAT6 automatic transmission, now places 20 PEUGEOT vehicles at the best level in their power class for CO₂ emissions (five PureTech, three 1.6-litre THP and twelve BlueHDi are class-leading models).

These engines meet the demand by the PEUGEOT brand for development that takes account of the environment, with in particular, engines that are ever cleaner and produce less CO₂. PEUGEOT’s environmental performance helped the PSA PEUGEOT CITROËN Group maintain leadership in Europe in 2014 with average CO₂ emissions of 110.3g/km, in a European market where the average is at 123.7g/km, and as an individual Brand the Peugeot product average is 109.5g/km.

Suzuki Vitara achieves the full EURO NCAP Five Stars, with above average marks in all categories.

The new Suzuki Vitara compact SUV, launched earlier this month, is rated one of Europe's safest cars according to independent crash testing results from Euro NCAP, receiving the maximum 5-star rating. 

Vitara is also the first compact SUV to earn five stars in the more rigorous 2015 Euro NCAP testing programme which further reinforces the exemplary level of safety of the new model.

Suzuki’s new Vitara has been awarded high scores in all four areas of assessment and also exceeds the minimum level required in all of these to attain the five star rating. These areas are listed below:

The new Vitara’s passive and active safety systems are designed to intelligently anticipate and react to potentially dangerous situations with an excellent level of protection. 

One of its major safety features is Total Effective Control Technology which is a concept for occupant protecting impact absorption and low weight developed by Suzuki.

Extensive use of high tensile steel and computer aided engineering technologies make the body light, highly crashworthy as well as fuel efficient.

Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags which includes a driver’s knee airbag as well as seat belt pre-tensioners and force limiters. 

Euro NCAP’s tests on the front seats and head restraints showed good protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear end collision and a geometric assessment of the rear seats also  indicated good protection.

Suzuki paid particular attention to child safety in accordance with latest European legislation and pedestrian protection received the highest score amongst its competitors thanks to bonnet shape and new structures for the cowl top and wipers. The bumpers also provide good impact absorption to lessen the degree of harm if the car comes into contact with a pedestrian.

Vitara is on sale in the UK from £13,999 for the SZ4 1.6-litre petrol model with two wheel drive and is available with ALLGRIP four wheel drive as an option.

Hyundai Motor’s New ix20 celebrates its world premiere at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and builds on all the qualities of the original model, with an enhanced engine line-up, new technologies and design refreshments to widen its appeal.

Since its initial launch in 2010, Hyundai has sold almost 200.000 units of ix20 – capturing a 9% share in the European multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) market.

Raf van Nuffel, Head of Product Management at Hyundai Motor Europe, commented: “New ix20 retains the versatility and roominess of the original model, while refreshing its design and adding technological enhancements, increasing appeal to a wider range of buyers in Europe.”

Refreshed design and additional features

New ix20’s design stands out with newly-designed bi-function projector headlamps and LED rear combination lamps, a new hexagonal front grille – Hyundai’s brand signature. There are two versions on offer – a mesh- or bars-type with chrome finishing. To further enhance its dynamic exterior, there is a new 15-inch wheel cover design and new 16- and 17-inch alloy wheel options.

Inside, New ix20 delivers the same space and versatility as before, with outstanding front seat room (head, shoulder and legroom). The 4115 mm long car’s unusually long wheelbase for its class (2615 mm) plus 1600 mm high roofline allows a spacious and practical interior, more typical of larger C-segment vehicles – an impression which can be enhanced by an optional tilt/slide dual-panel panoramic glass sunroof.

Apart from an impressive class-leading 440-litre boot (seats up) outstanding versatility comes from sliding ‘dive and fold’ rear seats allowing up to1486 litres’ luggage capacity. A heated steering wheel and a new generation audio system with iPod connectivity and integrated My Music (1GB storage) as well as Bluetooth connectivity and a USB and AUX connection further increases the comfort and pleasure in New ix20. Customers also benefit six airbags, ESP, ABS and EBD all fitted as standard.

Two interior colours (Black and Two-Tone Beige) with cloth upholstery will be offered. New six-speed automatic transmission and engine upgrades

To uphold New ix20’s class competitiveness, a new six-speed automatic transmission, as well as power and torque upgrades to the overall Euro6 emissions-compliant engine line-up brings even better drivability, with lower fuel consumption and emissions.

The two diesel engines have been enhanced to provide more torque – 240 Nm (1.4-litre) and 260 Nm (1.6-litre) – from just 1,500 rpm.

The Continuous Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) 1.4- and 1.6-litre petrol Hyundai ‘Gamma’ family units have both had efficiency boosted, with the 1.6-litre now available with a six-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous four-speed unit and delivering improved real-world fuel economy.

All engines have been enhanced to offer improved driveability and fuel efficiency, as well as meeting Euro6 emission standards.

Fuel Saving Technologies
