Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

2015, Bentley Power on ice, has its best year ever, I want to play !

  • Mulsanne Speed and GT3-R bring luxury and performance to the ice
  • Over 200 enthusiasts form record attendance
  • Charitable appeal winners join experience
2015 has proven to be the most powerful year yet for Bentley’s flagship winter experience event, Power on Ice. The Continental GT3-R and Mulsanne Speed both made their debut on the frozen lakes of Finland piloted by more than 200 Bentley enthusiasts, forming the largest attendance in the event’s history.
On tracks personally designed by four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen, on six-foot thick frozen ice, Bentley’s flagship the Mulsanne Speed was joined by the rarest and most dynamic member of the Continental family of Grand Tourers, the Continental GT3-R. Inspired by the Continental GT3 race car, the GT3-R blends proven track and road credentials; a unique interpretation of performance-focused luxury.

Limited to only 300 examples, the GT3-R proved to be the exclusive highlight of the event, impressing with its capabilities on ice.
Two charity competition winners also joined the team in Finland. Two spaces on Power on Ice were donated by Bentley as prizes in a competition that raised over £11,000 for charity Care2Save, providing funds to improve excellence in hospice and palliative care around the world.
Care2Save winner Ian Bradley, commented – “Getting behind the wheel of a Bentley on a frozen lake in Finland was truly exhilarating. The opportunity to passenger with Juha Kankkunen, while enjoying luxurious hospitality, contributed to what was a once in a lifetime experience, and all for a worthy cause, Care2Save.”
About Power on Ice
As exhilarating as it is exclusive, Power on Ice is a four-day event that allows guests to experience a range of Bentley models beyond the restrictions of every-day driving.
In addition to the Mulsanne Speed and GT3-R, a range of Continental GTs and Flying Spurs utilised all-wheel drive systems to conquer the off-piste driving challenge with ease. Constantly readjusting the levels of power to the front and rear wheels depending on available traction, Bentley’s Grand Tourers ensure optimal grip is delivered regardless of the imperfections of the surface. Snowmobile rides and ice-karting provide a dynamic challenge at a different pace.
Running throughout February 2015, the programme provided two full days of extreme driving delivered by Kankkunen and in-car tuition from the Bentley Ice Driving Team, creating a truly memorable Bentley experience.

Inspired - The Bentley Continental GT3-R

The Bentley Continental GT3-R, the rarest and most dynamic member of the esteemed Continental family of Grand Tourers, has been chosen as the winning car in Wired magazine’s annual Gear of the Year special edition.

A 15-page edit is produced every December of the best in Design, Sound & Vision, Rides, Sport & Leisure and Watches. This becomes the annual Wired list of the best products reviewed during the year.

Jeremy White, product editor, noted: “The Bentley GT3-R was chosen to be in the Rides section as we thought it was superb and a truly innovative piece of engineering - taking inspiration from the brand’s racing heritage and marrying this with cutting edge materials, manufacturing and technology to produce a superlative car.”

The Continental GT3-R made its global debut on the Bentley Stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed – the fastest-accelerating Bentley ever produced. Inspired by Bentley’s race-winning Continental GT3 racer, the GT3-R is powered by Bentley’s race- and road-proven 4.0 litre V8 engine, producing 580 PS and 700 Nm of torque. A weight reduction of 100 kg combines with torque vectoring and shorter gearing to deliver a breathtaking driving experience.

The Continental GT3-R is limited to just 300 examples, all hand built in Crewe and finished by Bentley’s motorsport department.

In February 2015, the GT3-R will be in situ in the icy north of Finland for Power on Ice, the flagship experience that elevates the concept of ice driving to the extreme. The Continental GT3-R completes the most powerful Bentley line up yet, making its debut on the frozen lakes piloted by four-time World Rally Champion Juha Kankkunen.

The December issue of Wired magazine is available now.

Bentley at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014.

  • New Continental GT3-R makes its global debut
  • Race winning GT3 completes Hillclimb
  • Historic Le Mans racers Old No. 1, Old No. 2 and Old No. 3 reunite
  • Derek Bell pilots dynamic new GT V8 S
  • Full Bentley range on display
Bentley prepares for the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed with an exclusive line up of cars. Spanning the company’s rich 95‑year heritage, the Bentley models on display at Goodwood showcase the best in British luxury and performance.
Making its global debut on the Bentley stand is the new Continental GT3-R – the most dynamic and fastest-accelerating Bentley ever produced.
The GT3-R is limited to just 300 examples, all hand built in Crewe and finished by Bentley’s motorsport department, and will be on display on the Bentley stand throughout the Festival weekend.

The inspiration behind the GT3-R – the Continental GT3 race car – will also be making an appearance at Goodwood. Fresh from its recent victory at the second round of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Silverstone, the GT3 will be piloted up the hill by modern-day Bentley Boy David Brabham, who drove a Bentley Speed 8 to second place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2003, completing the famous Bentley 1-2. The Continental GT3 takes to the hill throughout the weekend, while Team M-Sport Bentley enters its two GT3 cars in the next round of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Paul Ricard in southern France.
Tracing the roots of the brand’s racing heritage, three historic Bentleys will reunite for the first time in over a decade to complete Goodwood’s famous Hillclimb. The Speed Six Bentley, affectionately known as ‘Old Number 1’, won Le Mans in 1929 and 1930 with Woolf Barnato partnering Henry ‘Tim’ Birkin (1929) and Glen Kidston (1930) as well as winning at Brooklands.
This unique and celebrated racing car will be accompanied by two more classic Bentleys. ‘Old Number 2’ and ‘Old Number 3’ are both in their original form and raced alongside Old Number 1 at Le Mans in 1930.
An exquisite line-up of Bentley’s luxury performance road cars will be displayed on the company’s stand, with one of the latest additions to the range – the Continental GT V8 S – being driven up the hill by five-time Le Mans winner and Bentley Boy, Derek Bell. For the first time, Bentley will also be displaying a range of pre-owned models, on a separate stand in the Exhibitors’ Area.
