Vauxhall launches a new top of the rnage trim level to the Grandland X - The Ultimate !

Following the successful launch of the all-new Grandland X SUV at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, Vauxhall has introduced a new top-of-the-range variant to the line-up. The new Ultimate trim level, which is also available on the popular Mokka X and Crossland X models, has a high level of equipment as standard and debuts the new 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel (177PS) engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Grandland X already offers a selection of ultra-modern assistance and comfort features regardless of trim. OnStar, Dual Zone Climate Control, Lane Departure Warning and Rear Parking Sensors are just some highlights available across the range.

Sitting on 19-inch BiColour alloys, the new Ultimate Grandland X adds to this impressive list of features with kit including Automatic Cruise Control and a Denon premium sound system. Also standard are black roof and door mirrors, alloy sports pedals, heated steering wheel, heated rear outer seats, 360-degree Panoramic Camera and Premium LED Adaptive Forward Lighting Pack with projector headlights. Few SUVs in this class are as well-equipped.

New 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel (177PS) Engine

The Grandland X Ultimate also introduces Vauxhall’s new top-of-the-range 2.0-litre diesel engine, allied with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The new diesel engine is refined and powerful, delivering 177PS at 3,750rpm and 400Nm of torque at 2,000rpm to give effortless acceleration. This helps it achieve 0-60mph in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 133mph.

With performance comes also economy, the Grandland X 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel (177PS) Blue Injection engine offers official CO2 emissions of 128g/km and 57.6mpg combined.

A rarity in this class, the Grandland X Ultimate also sees the range debut of an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Similar to that seen in Vauxhall’s flagship Insignia range, it has been engineered with a smooth linear shift pattern.

Vauxhall has today released the first images of the all-new Grandland X SUV, the third member of its ‘X’ family, which receives its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. 

With a sporty design and off-road looks, the Grandland X has elevated seating for five people, generous luggage space, good all-round visibility and a raft of safety technologies. At 4.48 metres long, it will be the largest SUV in Vauxhall’s range, offering even more cabin space than the 20 centimetre-shorter Mokka X and Crossland X. 

LIGHTING, COMFORT AND DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS

The Grandland X offers a selection of ultra-modern assistance and comfort features. Adaptive Cruise Control with pedestrian detection and Automatic Emergency Braking, Driver Drowsiness Alert, and Advanced Park Assist are just some highlights. 

AGR-certified premium ergonomic front seats, heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats and smart tailgate, that opens with a kick, all ensure driver and passenger comfort. 

Grandland X drivers and passengers can enjoy outstanding connectivity that is now typical across the Vauxhall range, with the latest generation of IntelliLink systems and the personal connectivity and service assistant Vauxhall OnStar, which now includes new services such as hotel booking and parking space search. Smartphones can easily be integrated to the infotainment system and charged wirelessly via inductive charging on handsets with this function. 

Vauxhall continues to deliver on its commitment to lead in lighting technology, equipping the Grandland X with the innovative Adaptive Forward Lighting LED headlamps. Functions such as cornering light, high beam assist and auto levelling guarantee optimal illumination of the road ahead. 

The Grandland X offers safe driving fun on every surface, thanks to the optional electronic Grip Control that ensures traction in diverse driving situations. The driver has a choice of five driving modes, for each one the system adapts the torque distribution to the front wheels, allows wheel-spin if necessary, and, with the automatic transmission, adjusts shift points as well as throttle response. This ensures traction and stable handling regardless of the road surface. 

DESIGN 

At 4,477mm long, 1,844mm wide and 1,636mm high, the new Vauxhall Grandland X is a robust SUV from every perspective. Above the front skid plate, the bold grille proudly displays the Vauxhall Griffin. 

The chrome winglets embrace the brand logo and flow outwards to the slim, double-wing LED headlamps, visually widening the front and giving the Grandland X a powerful, solid stance. The bonnet features the signature Vauxhall crease – an expression of the Vauxhall design philosophy of sculptural artistry and technical precision. 

The side profile echoes the attractive combination of rugged SUV charm and elegant lines. Muscular, sculpted wheel arches and protective cladding on the lower body give the Grandland X real off-road appeal. In contrast, clear lines and the refined blade on the lower doors identify the new Grandland X as a member of the Vauxhall family. The optional two-tone finish, with the roof in contrasting black, adds an extra touch of personalisation. 

The smooth flow into the rest of the body is emphasised by the “breakthrough” C-pillar, which creates a dynamic bond to the rear. The rear view of the Grandland X shows what real SUV design means, with a wide stance, silver underside protection with integrated tailpipes on the left and right, protective cladding, and slim LED taillights, underlining the newcomer’s sporty, muscular character.

The Grandland X has the same quality on the inside: the instrument panel and centre console with touchscreen are clearly laid out and horizontally aligned to the driver. The centre stack has three horizontal rows of controls for fast and intuitive access to infotainment, climate control and chassis functions. 

Drivers and passengers benefit from the elevated seating position typical of an SUV, which ensures good visibility in all situations. Its long wheelbase of 2,675mm means the compact class SUV has plenty of space for up to five people, while the luggage compartment (with a load volume from 514 litres to a maximum of 1,652 litres) offers generous room for luggage and sport equipment.

Crisp and compact on the outside, spacious and flexible on the inside, with unique two-tone paintwork and SUV-styling, these are the first pictures of Vauxhall’s all-new Crossland X.

The newcomer adds a second vital ingredient to Vauxhall’s burgeoning SUV offering, which is due to grow still further in 2017 with the launch of the larger Grandland X later in the year. 

While the Crossland X’s recently-launched sibling, the Mokka X, has all-wheel-drive capability, is 70mm higher and has larger wheels for buyers with a taste for adventure, the Crossland X has a firm family focus, with a Tardis-like cabin providing high degrees of practicality and flexibility.

And at just 4.21 metres in length the Crossland X is more compact than the Mokka X, and a full 16cm shorter than the Astra Hatch, offering owners greater convenience while driving and manoeuvring in towns and cities. 

Adding to Crossland X’s urban appeal is an elevated seating position and an overall height, which is raised ten centimetres above the Astra’s.

The Crossland X also enters a different SUV class to the Mokka X, with rivals such as the Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008. The Mokka X’s competitors include the Nissan Juke and Skoda Yeti.

Exceptional driver and passenger comfort has been an obvious priority for a car entering this class. The Crossland X has specially designed AGR-certified adjust their seating position to increase leg room. This seating flexibility is equally valuable for luggage capacity, which is a class-leading 410 litres with the rear seats up. The flexibility of the rear seats allows the luggage capacity to be increased if additional leg room is not required.

Additional innovations in the Crossland X make driving safer and more comfortable, and include a 180-degree panoramic rear-view camera, advanced park assist, forward collision alert with pedestrian detection and autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, speed sign recognition and side blind-spot alert, among others.

The cutting-edge technology is not limited to driver assistance and safety features though, with drivers benefitting from exceptional connectivity that is becoming the norm in Vauxhall models. Vauxhall OnStar, as well as IntelliLink infotainment systems, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keeps drivers connected in a convenient and responsible way through an up to eight-inch colour touchscreen. An extensive petrol/diesel engine portfolio with manual and automatic transmissions also features.

Since 2012, the Mokka (which has recently been replaced by the new Mokka X) has found more than 120,000 buyers in the UK, its single biggest market in Europe, and this has been set against an SUV segment which have grown year-on-year. The Crossland X is set to bring still more growth when it goes on sale this summer.

Forming the first part of Vauxhall’s ‘Five-Star’ 2017, which will see five major product launches in just one year, the Crossland X will be joined by another newcomer to the ‘X’ family, the larger Grandland X which will compete in the compact SUV class (SUV C-segment) later this year.

DESIGN

As a true urban crossover, the Crossland X delivers bold design features in a compact, balanced package. The model’s length of 4,212mm, coupled with width of 1,765mm and height of 1,590mm, give it a dominant stance and balanced proportions. It is the latest model in the Vauxhall range to embrace the company’s design philosophy ‘Sculptural artistry meets technical precision’, giving it a rugged, yet sophisticated, appearance.

From the front, it is recognisably a Vauxhall, with a prominent grille featuring the iconic Griffin, as well as Vauxhall’s signature LED daytime running lights. Chrome accents coupled with AFL LED headlights give the perception of extra width and additional features taken from larger SUV models give the model a confident appearance.

The crisp side lines and ‘floating roof’, which visually separates the lower and upper section of the vehicle lengthen the Crossland X. Like the Vauxhall ADAM, customers can order a different colour for the roof. 

The prominent rear of the Crossland X makes a clear SUV statement with its visible underbody protection. The highly-mounted split rear lights also feature the ‘double-wing’ graphic and form the intersection between the boot lid and the downwards sloping roofline.

COMFORT

The interior of the Crossland X offers sculptural design and precision, with the instrument panel and centre stack horizontally aligned to the driver for added functionality. High quality finishes are provided with chrome accents around the cluster and air vents, while the centrepiece of the interior is the up to eight-inch colour touchscreen.

With either Radio R 4.0 IntelliLink or Navi 5.0 IntelliLink infotainment systems, both compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Crossland X keeps the driver connected with the unit’s seamless integration into the centre console. 

The latest wireless inductive charging is also available for added convenience and a reduction in wires, and the inclusion of Vauxhall OnStar as standard provides a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to seven devices to keep all occupants connected while on the go.

Driver and passenger experience is not only heightened by the intelligent design and infotainment system, but with the model’s comfortable seating and spacious layout. 

Uncommon for the segment, the Crossland X features first class ergonomic seats for the driver and front passenger to make long journeys comfortable, and give generous leg room.

High levels of flexibility are also offered throughout the model, largely thanks to the sliding rear seats. 

Able to move forwards or backwards up to 150mm, the 60/40 split folding seats provide additional leg room to the rear passengers for added comfort, or alternatively can be moved to create additional luggage space up to a class-leading 520 litres. 

When the rear seats are folded down completely, luggage capacity increases to an impressive 1,255 litres, with the wide number of permutations in between making the Crossland X capable of carrying a wide range of everyday items as required.

Hot on the heels of last week’s announcement about its new Crossland X, Vauxhall can now reveal that its 2017 SUV/crossover family will be rounded off by a third model, which will become the big brother of the range.

Known as the Grandland X, the new crossover will sit next to the Mokka X SUV and Crossland X and will boost Vauxhall’s credentials in a segment which is one of the fastest-growing in the UK’s car market.

With a design that blends elegance with ruggedness, the Grandland X will offer customers a raised seating position, good all-round visibility and plenty of luggage space. 

Easy ingress and egress will also be on the menu, along with plenty of cabin practicality, high levels of comfort and fine driving dynamics.

‘We now have a compelling trio of new models for 2017 that are bang on target for a sector that has seen more growth recently than almost any other in the UK,’ said Rory Harvey, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director. ‘The range now covers all bases, from an all-wheel-drive SUV to a choice of two highly practical and stylish crossovers, with different levels of space and equipment.
