Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

Toyota makes life easier with Intelligent Clearance Sonar, I bet i will still hit something.

Imagine how much easier life would be if your car realised when you’re about to reverse into a high kerb and could intervene to prevent a costly scrape? Or if you could make your car transparent, so you have a complete view of your surroundings when edging back into a parking space? Toyota is ready to help with clever improvements to its parking support technology that it will be featuring on new models from next year.

Intelligent Clearance Sonar

Toyota’s Intelligent Clearance Sonar not only detects obstacles, it also helps prevent or mitigate collisions where the driver hits the accelerator by mistake – a familiar hazard when backing out of a parking space. Toyota has improved the system by adding extra sensors that can detect objects further away, increasing the breadth and depth of scanning.

It has also reworked the system’s control logic so that there is less risk of colliding with adjacent vehicles or obstacles, even when using the wrong pedal isn’t the issue, for example when driving slowly around a car park, or pulling out of a parking space.

Toyota’s Intelligent Park Assist system now uses ICS to prevent or reduce the consequences of collisions by deploying automated braking. It can also take the strain out of parking with a new multi-point turn support function that provides automatic steering control1 in tight spaces where the driver has to make multiple turns of the wheel.

IPA’s benefits also include A partially automated1 function to help drivers negotiate their way out of a parallel parking spot where there’s little room in front and behind the vehicle.

Panoramic View Monitor

Vehicles fitted with Toyota’s Panoramic View Monitor can already take advantage of an overhead view of their car, displayed on the navigation system’s screen.

The view is being made even clearer with a new See-through View function. At the press of a button, the driver can flip between Moving View, which displays real-time video as if looking down on the vehicle, and See-through View, which gives a driver’s perspective of the car’s surroundings, as if the vehicle were transparent. Compared to Moving View, obstacles are shown larger, making them easier to spot and avoid.

Toyota’s improvements to its parking support technology are intended to make parking safer and reduce the high level of property damage accidents witnessed in car parks worldwide.

This in turn supports its mission to help eliminate traffic fatalities and injuries. Toyota’s Integrated Safety Management Concept sets the direction for the development of both vehicles and safety technology. It covers all aspects of driving by integrating individual safety technologies and systems, rather than viewing them as units that function independently.

Toyota is committed to a wide range of initiatives that address traffic safety, from developing ever-safer vehicles and technologies to helping create a safer traffic environment and engaging in educational activities.

The driver maintains control of the brakes, accelerator and gear shift.

And yet more awards for Nissan's uber successful Qashqai.

More silverware for Qashqai as Recombu.com names best-selling Nissan crossover as its 2014 Family Car of the Year
  • Judges highlight Qashqai’s bold design and high technology levels
  • Latest award joins others from key industry titles and websites
  • British-built Qashqai features a host of advanced technologies
The new Nissan Qashqai has added to its impressive haul of industry awards accolades with another title. Online tech review site Recombu.com has named the Qashqai its Best Family Car 2014 at its annual awards ceremony.
The Recombu.com judging panel highlighted the Qashqai’s exterior design, family-focused cabin and high levels of technology – qualities that helped the British-built crossover become one of the most in-demand cars of 2014.

Rory Reid, Editor in Chief of Recombu.com said: “The original Nissan Qashqai almost single-handedly defined the crossover market, and although wannabes have tried to cash in on its success, it continues to rule head and shoulders above its rivals.”
Recombu.com’s award is the latest in a long line of titles won by the Qashqai since its launch in January. Among the silverware already collected is the 2014 What Car? Car of the Year award, 2014 Auto ExpressCrossover of the Year and eBay Motors Car of the Year 2014. The Qashqai’s advanced Safety Shield technology also scooped the prestigious Auto Express Safety Award earlier this year.
Commenting on the Qashqai’s latest award, Rachael Gregory from Nissan Motor GB added: “We’re delighted to accept this Recombu.com award for the Qashqai. The Qashqai’s exceptionally high equipment levels and advanced technologies have been a key factor in its popularity with buyers and awards like this reward the hard work that our design and engineering teams put into the car.”
Launched in January, the new Qashqai is available from £18,265 and is offered with five trim grade options. Engine outputs range from 110PS in the 1.5dCi to 163PS in the new 1.6-litre DIG-T petrol engines, while technology features include Nissan Safety Shield Technologies, Around View Monitor, New NissanConnect infotainment system and Intelligent Park Assist*.

Upgrades to style and features for Europes only seven seater Hybrid, that will be the Prius+

New style details, equipment features and colours for Europe’s only seven-seat hybrid
Prius+, Europe’s market-leading seven-seat hybrid MPV, is being re-groomed for 2015 with new styling details, equipment features and colour choices. The first major changes for Prius+ since launch in 2012 give the car a stronger look that takes up Toyota’s latest design cues.
The revised front-end features a new upper grille and a more prominent Toyota badge that extends the forward line of the bonnet. There are new LED headlights, too, which use a cylindrical projector for both high and low beam. Their slim profile and contrasting black and chrome plating give Prius+ a distinctive sharp-eyed appearance.
The lower grille adopts the trapezoid shape that’s a common feature of the latest Toyota models. With a gloss black metallic finish, it adds emphasis to the car’s broad stance. The impression of width is reinforced by a re-working of the bumper corners, given extra emphasis in a flowing form that extends from the headlights to the new air intakes and LED daytime running lights.

At the rear there’s a new combination lamp design with “light guide” treatment and red inner lenses that give the car an individual lighting signature. Following the styling themes adopted at the front, there is a new licence plate trim and bumper with an integrated diffuser.
In Europe, two new body colours will be available: Dark Sherry metallic and Attitude Black mica (details of UK colours will be announced later).
Changes in the cabin include a dark silver metallic finish for the driver’s switchgear and the air conditioning dial control and a chrome finish for the door handles. There are two new chrome-trimmed, slim-line air vents in the centre console and a new 4.2-inch colour TFT information screen, controlled using switchgear on the steering wheel. As well as basic information such as clock, trip indicator, cruising range fuel consumption, the screen also displays the Hybrid System Indicator and Energy monitor – features common to all Toyota hybrids. It also provides a new “Eco Judge” function, designed to help the driver maximise the powertrain’s efficiency, giving a points score for their eco-driving style.
The screen will also mirror the settings for the air conditioning and audio settings, keeping them in the driver’s line of sight when on the move.
The 2015 Prius+ is fitted as standard with the Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system, including touchscreen control, Bluetooth and reversing camera. This can be upgraded – Toyota Touch 2 with Go – to provide additional satellite navigation, live traffic information and, via Toyota’s online portal, an expanded range of connected services, text-to-speech function and 3D city modelling with landmark graphics.
The equipment upgrade extends to the availability of electric seat adjustment, a front centre armrest and Intelligent Park Assist. Safety features have also been improved with the introduction of an emergency brake signal, which triggers all side indicators in the event of sudden braking. Hill-start Assist Control is automatically activated when the car detects an uphill gradient.
Toyota has also improved Prius+ ride and handling, making adjustments to the suspension damping force. New sound absorption material has been introduced in the side of the rear compartment to reduce noise intrusion in the cabin. The hybrid powertrain has been upgraded to comply with Euro6 emissions standards.
Full details of the UK model range, specifications and prices will be announced nearer the on sale date.

Nissan adds new model and trim upgrades on Qashqai Line-up.

  • New n-tec grade adds further choice and true value to award-winning Qashqai range
  • Builds on Acenta Premium value proposition with greater levels of style and technology – grade starting price unchanged at £21,700
  • Standard specification including 18-inch alloys, Around View Monitor, automatic folding mirrors and positioned between existing Acenta and Tekna
  • n-tec+ adds roofrails and Panoramic glassroof as standard
  • Efficient DIG-T 115 petrol now available with six-speed Xtronic automatic gearbox; 129g/km and combined 50.4mpg
Nissan has updated its multi-award winning Qashqai range with the launch of a brand new n-tec trim plus a new Xtronic DIG-T 115 model. The new n-tec grade replaces Acenta Premium in the Qashqai line-up and is positioned between the existing Acenta and Tekna grades.
It now makes Nissan’s advanced driver and safety technology even more accessible and further enhances the vehicle’s overall value proposition with starting prices for the grade identical to Acenta Premium at £21,700.
Outside, the new n-tec grade features unique 18-inch alloy wheels with a stylish and distinctive black diamond-cut finish. Customers wanting to add even more features can choose an optional n-tec+ trim that include a full-length Panoramic glassroof and roofrails for an additional £550.

Jim Wright, Managing Director at Nissan Motor GB, said: “The Qashqai continues its sales success as it delivers exactly what customers need and want in terms of design, technology, practicality and safety. With the introduction of n-tec and a new automatic DIG-T 115 petrol variant, Nissan is enhancing its value and choice offering of its record-breaking crossover even further.”
Nissan’s passion for bringing new technologies to the broadest possible audience is further reinforced by n-tec’s safety, comfort and entertainment features. Taking centre stage is the acclaimed Around View Monitor (AVM) – Nissan’s driving and parking aid that provides driver with a ‘helicopter view’ of the area immediately surrounding the car.
AVM is fully integrated into the Qashqai’s latest NissanConnect entertainment system – a collection of technologies that includes smartphone connectivity and advanced satellite navigation system featuring Google Send to Car route planning.
Other comfort features included as standard on the Qashqai n-tec include Nissan’s Intelligent Keywith push-button start, front and rear parking sensors, automatic folding mirrors and an auto dimming rear view mirror.
Customers choosing the n-tec model also benefit from a comprehensive safety package. Nissan’s collection of Safety Shield technologies is fitted as standard – bringing peace of mind and segment-first technologies to an even wider audience. These include Forward Emergency braking, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning and High Beam Assist.
To complete the Qashqai range enhancements, Nissan has added a new model in the form of a DIG-T 115 Xtronic featuring a six-speed automatic transmission option for the first time from Acenta upwards. The new model emits just 129g/km and returns 50.4mpg on the combined cycle and costs an additional £1,350 over the equivalent manual variants.
