PARIS - Mercedes will host no fewer than 30 cars on it's display with the new E-Class All Terrain and AMG GLC.

The attendance of this year's Paris Motor Show by Mercedes-Benz Cars is characterised by change, both digitally and electrically: celebrating their world premieres in Hall 5.2 will be the electric drive versions of the new smart fortwo, the smart fortwo cabrio and, for the first time, the smart forfour.
A Mercedes-Benz show car embodying a concrete vision of a totally new generation of vehicles with battery-electric drive will also have its world premiere.
A new member of the E-Class family will be on show for the first time: alongside the Saloon and Estate variants, the E-Class All-Terrain vehicle is a new, lifestyle-oriented addition to the model range.

The focus on the topic of electric mobility is supported by the architecture of the trade show stand and its media presentations.
Running centrally from the front edge through to the large LED panel on the rear building is the E-Mobility Lane: the electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz Cars are positioned on black, backlit glass.
They form the cordon for the Mercedes-Benz show car which is displayed in the central perspective. This provides a specific vision of a completely new vehicle generation with battery-electric drive system.
Architecturally the stand, which covers a total area of 2500 square metres, is framed by the "Silver Flow". This extensive, attention-grabbing shape has been the symbol of Mercedes-Benz's global trade show attendance since 2014.
A new feature is the integration of social media communication in the stand design: presentations on key topics are streamed via Facebook Live to the Mercedes community – at the same time, the stream can also be viewed on the five media panels on the stand.
Several world premieres from smart, Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG
In total Mercedes-Benz Cars is presenting around 30 vehicles in Paris, including several world premieres:
  • The new smart electric drive makes entry into the world of electric mobility easier than ever. This is because it combines the unique agility of the smart with local emission-free driving – perfect for urban mobility. Fourth-generation emission-free driving pleasure can be enjoyed not just in the smart fortwo coupé and smart fortwo cabrio, but now also for the first time in the four-seater smart forfour. As a result smart is the only brand to offer its entire model range not only with petrol engines but also with electric drive.
  • A new member of the E-Class family will be on show for the first time in the guise of the E-Class All-Terrain: thanks to off-road-based design features, the All-Terrain boasts a powerful and robust look and at the same time stands out from the classic estate. Dynamism and modern luxury are combined with status-enhancing poise and assurance, and follow the current design idiom.
  • The new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé combines a sporty, elegant design with the brand's hallmark Driving Performance and the advantages of an SUV in terms of seating position, interior flexibility and also traction off the beaten track. The 270 kW (367 hp) 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine, the automatic transmission 9G-TRONIC with shortened shift times and the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive configured with a rear bias form the basis for an especially dynamic on-road driving experience. Additionally, the GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé also enables occasional off-road excursions to be undertaken: the ground clearance can be increased at the touch of a button, and the pneumatic all-round self-levelling ensures a constant vehicle level at all times.
A further highlight is the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, which is celebrating its show premiere in Paris. The 2+2-seater pays homage to the glorious age of the aero coupés and consciously carries this tradition forward into the future.
The coupé reinterprets classic, emotional design principles in an extreme way, following the Mercedes design philosophy of sensual purity. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, which measures almost six metres in length, is designed as an electric car.
The drive system has an output of 550 kW (750 hp). The flat battery in the underbody enables a range of more than 500 km (NEDC).
Mercedes-AMG's continued expansion of the GT family will also be in evidence at the Paris Motor Show. Hot on the heels of the new AMG GT R, the sports car and performance brand will be presenting a further variant of the GT model series on the eve of the Paris Motor Show.

Fiat's New 500 and Panda dominate the European City Car sales charts, with growth in most models.

Italy’s economic rebound and the arrival of the refreshed Fiat 500 will help pull minicar sales out of a slump that caused the segment to drop to a five-year low in 2014, analysts at IHS Automotive predict.
European minicar sales fell 32 percent to 1,125,160 million in 2014 compared with 2009, with Italy down 50 percent to 244,642 during the period, IHS figures show.
However, the analyst firm predicts that Europe’s overall minicar sales will rise to about 1.2 million this year and 1.25 million next year because the volume in Italy -- Europe’s No. 1 market for the entry-level models -- is poised to increase to 260,000 this year and 300,000 in 2016.
That is still way below the roughly 500,000 minicars, also known as A-segment cars, that were sold in Italy in 2009, when a government-subsidized car-scrapping program artificially inflated demand. Similar schemes, which were used across Europe to boost sales during the height of the global financial crisis, pushed total minicar volume to 1.65 million five years ago.

Fiat’s dominance

What is expected to drive Italy’s minicar sales rebound is the country’s improving economic climate and the debut of the revised version of the 500, Fiat's higher-end, higher-priced minicar, which is Europe’s best-seller in the segment, according to data from JATO Dynamics.
Fiat also claimed second place in the segment with the more practical, more affordable Panda. European sales of the Panda increased by 11 percent to a little more than 76,000 through May.
The 500 also is a hit outside its home country, ranking as the UK’s best-selling minicar and No. 10 overall after five months, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Strong demand for the 500 helped make the UK Europe’s No. 2 market for minicars last year, IHS figures show. The UK nearly topped Italy in 2014 as demand rose to 237,138.
Overall UK car sales are being boosted by low interest rates that cut monthly finance figures low enough for buyers like Duncan Watson, a medical equipment salesman from Leighton Buzzard, southern England, who recently chose a new minicar over a second-hand model.
Watson is paying 138 pounds (about 195 euros) a month for a Peugeot 108 that he bought for his daughter, Ellie, on a personal lease from a local dealer. “I only cared about whether I could afford the monthly cost, and tried to get this as low as possible,” he told Automotive News Europe.
The 108’s sister model, the C1, is currently Citroen’s top-selling car in the UK, brand CEO Linda Jackson told Automotive News Europe in June.
Working together
The 108, C1 and Toyota Aygo are the second generation of minicars built at PSA/Peugeot-Citroen and Toyota’s joint venture plant in Kolin, Czech Republic. All three ranked in the bottom half of the European top 10 through May with a combined volume of 97,562.
In April, PSA CEO Carlos Tavares told Reuters he wanted to maintain the French automaker’s minicar arrangement with Toyota, but he indicated an openness to adding partners to further spread costs.
“To make A-segment cars, it‘s better to have the kind of grouping of several [automakers] that are going to share a given investment and then make derivatives out of the common investment,” Tavares said.
Tavares was chief operating officer at PSA’s French rival, Renault, when it teamed up with Daimler to create a joint rear-wheel-drive minicar. The results are the current Renault Twingo, the Smart ForTwo and ForFour, all of which debuted in 2014.
The Twingo was given a more premium styling to better compete with the Fiat 500, a move that has proved to be a success as European sales were up 39 percent to 42,417 in the first five months.
The Twingo’s rise means Renault is poised to retake third place in the segment from the VW Up, which had an 11 percent sales decline in the January to May period.
“New competition in the sector is probably the thing that is harming the Up at the moment,” IHS Automotive principal analyst Ian Fletcher told Automotive News Europe. The Up was launched in late 2011 along with its sister models, the Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii. The minicars are made at VW Group’s factory in Slovakia.
Special models
Of the three, only the Mii has increased sales so far this year, rising 4.4 percent to 10,456. It was helped by growth of the Spanish market and the debut of a new upmarket variant, Seat CEO Juergen Stackmann told journalists during a visit to the UK in July.
The Mii by Mango is a more premium version of the minicar that was created in collaboration with Mango, a Barcelona-based fashion house. The special edition Mii costs 9,480 euros compared with 6,500 euros for an entry-level Mii in Spain.
Stackmann said Seat sold 5,000 units of the model in its first year, with 80 percent being purchased by women. “It was far ahead of our expectations,” he said. “The [Mii’s] average transaction price has gone up tremendously.” IHS expects Spain’s minicar segment to double from a low of 24,558 in 2011 to about 52,000 this year.
The trend for more premium features and higher-end models in the sector also has boosted Opel/Vauxhall’s Adam, which is now available as a three-door hatchback, convertible and as a crossover that is called Adam Rocks.

Sales of the car rose 9 percent to 24,984 in the first five months. In May, Opel added the more practical, less-expensive Karl minicar, which is sold as the Vauxhall Viva in the UK.
“Very few manufacturers have a lineup in the A-B [minicar-subcompact] segment that’s so fresh and able to cater to different subsegments,” Vauxhall Managing Director Tim Tozer told Automotive News Europe. Opel also recently launched the new-generation Corsa subcompact.
Minicars are currently Europe’s third-largest segment and while small SUVs are stealing some sales from the sector, IHS predicts minicar volumes will remain steady at about 1.2 million until 2018. As Citroen CEO Jackson says: “There’s always room for a good cheap small vehicle at the bottom.”

Warrenty Direct details the most reliable Eco cars in the second hand market today.

  • Warranty Direct names economical used cars with proven reliability
  • Ford Fiesta ECOnetic boasts winning dependability and economy
Research by Warranty Direct has highlighted the used cars aged three years or older which offer the best combination of reliability and economy, as motorists continue to look for ways to reduce the cost of car ownership.

Manufacturers are continually developing new technology which delivers better fuel consumption and lower emissions, but some more complex machines are still prone to going wrong, forcing owners to foot expensive repair bills.

Warranty Direct analysed its 50,000 live policies, using the Company’s unique Reliability Index (www.reliabilityindex.com) to measure overall reliability by combining rate of failure, average mileage, age and repair cost.

Ranking cars based on fuel economy in this instance, Warranty Direct used its Reliability Index to name the top ten reliable makes and models of three years or more, as well as the optimal engine and trim combination for the best return at the pumps.

The results revealed that the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic, with an impressive combined MPG figure of 85.6 had the best mix of fuel economy and reliability. The Smart Fortwo was able to match the Fiesta’s MPG figure and is unlikely to let its owners down, though it suffered marginally more mechanical faults than the Ford.

The SEAT Ibiza, Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia put in a strong showing for the Volkswagen Group with closely matched scores, though the Skoda nudged ahead of its stablemates owing to an MPG return of 83.1. However, the frugal SEAT is statistically more reliable.

David Gerrans, Managing Director at Warranty Direct commented: “the ‘eco’ derivatives of a used vehicle are often desirable, promising economical motoring for the cost-conscious buyer.

“However, savings on fuel and road tax can soon be countered with astronomical bills for mechanical or electrical failure. It is important to take these factors into account when selecting a car based on green credentials.”

And Europes most reliable car is...... WHAT !!!!!!!! REALLY !!!!!!!!!!

British and French brands produce Europe’s most reliable cars, according to the latest research by Warranty Direct’s Reliability Index.
With the 85th Geneva Motor Show displaying the latest automotive technology closing its doors at the end of last week, Warranty Direct has revealed which are Europe’s most reliable models. The vehicles analysed were an average of five years old with mileages of around 50,000.
British brand, Vauxhall, topped the table with its diminutive Agila model the most reliable European-badged car on the road.

French manufacturers, Peugeot and Citroen completed the top three, with their similarly small 107 and C1 superminis.
Swedish, Spanish, German and Czech brands also won places in the top 10 reliability rankings with Volvo, SEAT, Volkswagen, Smart and Skoda.
Vauxhall’s Agila is most likely to incur issues with its axle and suspension, accounting for an average of 30% of its faults. The cooling and heating system is responsible for 44% of the Peugeot 107’s downtime; with fellow French carmaker Citroen finding most of the issues in its C1 derive from the electrics.

Volvo S40 drivers report more axle and suspension faults, with a third suffering complications. Warranty Direct’s data reveals Smart’s Fortwo most frequently faces engine issues, accounting for more than one in three of its breakdowns.
Warranty Direct managing director, David Gerrans, said: “It’s good to see a British manufacturer at the top of the table, especially at a time when Britain’s automotive industry is flying high. Our data also highlights that Swedish, Czech, Spanish and French carmakers are all more reliable than their often celebrated German counterparts, which will surprise some consumers, who may still assume that German cars are the most durable.”
At the other end of the scale, the Audi RS6 is Europe’s most unreliable vehicle, with data indicating it’ll break down at least once a year. Four out of the five most unreliable models are produced by German manufacturers.

Warranty Direct’s Reliability Index score is calculated on a combination of vehicle criteria from a database of more than 50,000 live policies:
  • Frequency of failure
  • Cost of repair
  • Duration of repairs
  • Average age and mileage
The higher the Reliability Index score, the worse the car is – the lower the score, the better and the average RI number is 100.
