FRANKFURT - Vauxhall showcases a World Premiere of a Possible Limited Edition Vivaro Surf Edition Van.

  • World premiere of lifestyle van for sport and leisure
  • Space for up to six people, active sports and leisure equipment
  • Powerful 1.6-litre CDTi (140PS) BiTurbo CDTI with 340Nm
Vauxhall showcases a Luton-built Vivaro Surf Concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
This lifestyle version of the Vivaro is ideal for sporting activities and can accommodate five to six passengers (depending on the seating configuration) along with sport and fitness equipment.

Roomy and spacious, this doublecab van offers a separate cargo area of 3.2m3 – or 4.0m3 for the long wheelbase version. The Vivaro Surf Concept is ideal for transporting wet or dirty items after a trip to the beach or to the mountains in the large cargo area.

The Vivaro Surf Concept is a real eye-catcher with its shiny copper-brown paintwork. Customised Irmscher alloys complete the look.

The lifestyle van shows its full functionality once the doors and tailgate are opened – either manually or via Keyless Open. A cargo area with a total permissible weight of up to one tonne is extremely practical with plenty of room for skiing or snowboard equipment, surfboards or bikes.

The floor of the cargo area is fitted with a newly-developed rail system; the entire width under the second row of seats is used for a storage box that can hold small items.

The interior, fitted by the specialists from Snoeks Automotive, features blue lighting in the sidewalls and the roof liner.

On the roof, the Surf Concept has a special surfboard bracket so that longboard fans don’t have to go on holiday without their beloved board.

Powertrain

Powered by a 1.6-litre CDTi (140PS) BiTurbo, it mobilises 340Nm of torque and propels the Vivaro Surf Concept to a top speed of 112mph. The ecoFLEX version with Start/Stop achieves 46.31mpg, which is equivalent to 160g/km (preliminary values).

The idea of providing additional comfort also features in the suspensions system. The air suspension at the rear axle compensates for all sorts of bumps in the road giving passengers a comfortable ride, shortened springs also reduce the vehicles height by around 7cm to 1.80m.

“The Vivaro Surf Concept is the ideal vehicle for large families or groups of friends,” said Steffen Raschig, Vauxhall/Opel Director Commercial Vehicles.

“The close-to-production concept offers space for up to six passengers with its crew cab. There is a large cargo area with numerous practical details behind the second row of seats. The sporty styling on the outside and numerous comfort features along with the ultra-modern IntelliLink system on the inside make it an elegant roomy van.

The Vivaro Surf Concept is the perfect alternative for people who need more than a passenger car but do not want to miss out on the usual comfort.”

The spacious and comfortable Vivaro Surf Concept will be on show at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt and could soon go into production as a “Limited Edition”.

FRANKFURT - Bentley to showcase a new accessories collection at the German Auto Show.

  • Collection for men and women highlights all aspects of the modern Bentley lifestyle
  • Debut for the new Collection at the Bentley Boutique at Frankfurt IAA
  • Bentley core values of craftsmanship, exquisite materials and attention to detail translated into desirable statement items for discerning global customers
Bentley Motors is delighted to announce a luxurious and stylish new Bentley Collection which will debut at Frankfurt Motor Show on September 15. More than 300 new items embody the essence of the Bentley brand – unparalleled craftsmanship and incredible attention to detail.

The range comprises several distinct collections; Business, Style, Home, Heritage, Bespoke, Colour and Bentley.

Business

To ensure no compromise is made on style at work and in business, an array of leather accessories is available in the Business collection.

The Continental range of leather bags has been extended to include three exquisite accessories which ensure business travel is undertaken with confidence and flair; a briefcase in versions for both men and women and a weekender bag.

The Continental briefcase transforms Bentley design statements into a functional yet luxurious business item; two zipped pockets are arranged symmetrically on the main front panel, which has recognisable origins in the Bentley wings logo. Cross stitched handles echo the stitching seen on each Continental GT steering wheel, a tactile reminder of the inspiration behind the collection.

The ladies’ briefcase has been designed to complement the Barnato and Continental handbags, with a shape that combines the features of both a Boston bag and a briefcase.

The result is a spacious business case that can also be used as an overnight bag. The interior comprises two compartments, one for clothing and personal items, and another for business use. A central compartment provides easy yet secure access to wallets, phones and other essential items.

Soft travel bags are available individually or as a four piece luggage set, made specifically to stow easily in the Bentayga luggage compartment. These can be ordered either in Beluga or commissioned to match the interior leather on your car.

Style

The Style collection is inspired by Bentley’s unmistakable design language, taking high fashion concepts and translating them into Bentley items for practical daily use.

The range includes the much coveted Bentley Handbag collection. The Continental handbag, named after the iconic Bentley GT, is reinvented in a new, smaller size, which is introduced alongside the original Continental and Barnato handbags.

New colours refresh the collection for Autumn. Drawn from Bentley’s extended colour palette, Burnt Oak, Portland, and Dark Sapphire are subtle tones which provide a more muted yet luxurious colour palette with which to usher in the new season.

Also within the Style collection is a new range of scarves. The design showcases many design features and landmarks drawn from the world of Bentley which form an abstract print, and a sophisticated addition to any outfit.

Home

Luxurious home accessories in the finest materials bring Bentley style inside. An equestrian blanket crafted from cashmere forms one of the highlights. The blanket comes in hues of Camel and Portland to provide a cosy addition to any room, or alternatively the throw offers a stylish layer to take with you when attending the outdoor events of autumn.

A Bentley photo frame designed in Portland leather and chrome edging will make a stylish addition to any room, while the aroma of vintage leather can now be experienced with an ambience enhancing scented candle.

A unique handmade desk clock, crafted by the experts at Breitling in Piano Black, joins the Burr Walnut desk clock in the Collection, and is evocative of the craftsmanship seen within a Bentley.

Colour

For Bentley customers exterior paint choice is only limited by their imagination. For the Bentley Collection the 120 colours in Bentley’s extended paint palette have inspired a striking range of handcrafted clothing, leather goods and accessories.

Neptune, Moroccan Blue, Magenta, Portland and Highland Hare are among the most popular Bentley hues, some classic, others which never fail to draw a second glance, and have been interpreted in a range of polo shirts, down jackets, and other useful items such as travel pouches, coin trays and luggage tags.

Attention to detail is paramount throughout, and can be seen through the reproduction of the matrix grille pattern inside collars and cuffs of the clothes, an extension of the ethos that the details you don’t see are as important as those you do.

Heritage

The Heritage collection celebrates Bentley’s rich history. The spirit and flair of the Bentley Boys in the 1920s provides endless inspiration.

The choice of colours and materials in the heritage collection has been informed by these years, quintessentially British shades such as Racing Green and Dark Sapphire are used, while a modern interpretation of Tim Birkin’s own ‘Birkin Spot’ motif accents the range.

Inspiring items in the heritage collection include a weekender race bag and a race back pack, both a functional and stylish interpretation of the heritage theme. Both accessories feature the number nine – a number with special significance for Bentley. It was used to identify what became one of the most famous Bentleys ever built: the supercharged 4.5 Litre ‘Blower’ that Bentley Boy Tim Birkin drove at Le Mans in 1930.

The Blower is seen again in scarf form, which features the famous racer in luxurious cashmere, resulting in a stylish accessory for the modern day Bentley aficionado.

Bentley

Since the company was founded in 1919 Bentley has been a magnet for motor enthusiasts of all kinds. While some will become Bentley owners themselves, there are many for whom the brand’s history, its cars and the success of its present day motorsport teams are every bit as important as the ownership of a luxury car.

To celebrate the launch of Bentayga, precision crafted scale models have been created, each exquisitely made in colours that match the real cars – exclusive to the Bentley Collection.

Three 1:43 scale models are available. Dark Sapphire and Glacier White are limited to only one thousand units, while a Bentayga Bronze version, exactly matching the launch model at Frankfurt Motor Show, is limited to only 250 models. All will be available alongside the Bentayga at Frankfurt IAA.

The largest and most detailed model, a 1:18 version in Extreme Silver, is also limited to a run of one thousand and will be available from November.

Price List

Bentley Collection items are available globally from Bentley dealers from October 1, or alternatively online atwww.bentleycollection.com.

SEAT announces pricing and specs for new Leon X-Perience

  • X-PERIENCE becomes latest addition to high-selling Leon line-up
  • ST-based lifestyle estate with permanent four-wheel-drive, extra ground clearance and specific off-road look
  • Unique X-PERIENCE interior touches and premium equipment level
  • Two trims: SE and SE Technology. Optional Lux Pack for £1,250
  • Available with 2.0 TDI 150 and 184 PS engines, latter with DSG
  • Priced £24,385 to £28,870
  • UK ordering opens 1 September 2014, ahead of showroom launch in December
SEAT has confirmed pricing and specification for the latest addition to the high-selling Leon line-up. Called X-PERIENCE, the new lifestyle estate with permanent four-wheel-drive and off-roader looks starts from £24,385 on-the-road.
The Barcelona-based brand recently confirmed that its eagerly-awaited compact SUV will arrive in 2016, so the newcomer will be seeking to gain traction for SEAT in the lead-up to its launch.
With four-wheel-drive and extra ground clearance, Leon X-PERIENCE is capable in all road situations and poor weather conditions. Inside and out, it retains all of the ST’s style and versatility, including its sizeable 587-litre boot, which rises to 1,470 litres with the rear seats folded at the pull of a single lever.
The range-topping estate is immediately recognisable through its all-road looks. Among the accoutrements are protection mouldings on the door sills and wheel arches, to give it a robust look, plus aluminium look touches for the rear bumper and lower front spoiler.
Other elements singling it out as the ultimate Leon ST, are integrated fog lamps and twin chrome tailpipes, together with substantial air intakes at the front.

It’s got the substance to match the style too. Featuring all-road suspension with extra ground clearance, Leon X-PERIENCE is as at home on gravel and snow as it is on tarmac.
Underneath its upmarket look is the 4Drive all-wheel-drive system with intelligent EDS dynamic control, which accurately distributes weight between all four wheels, increasing traction to improve handling and stability. There’s also an extended electronic differential lock (XDS) for better traction while cornering.
Available to order from 1 September, Leon X-PERIENCE comes in two trim levels, SE and SE Technology. Offering a significantly enhanced standard specification over equivalent Leon STs, the range kicks off at £24,385 for the SE 2.0 TDI 150 manual. The same powered SE Technology version comes in at £26,370, while the 2.0 TDI 184 with DSG transmission tops out at £28,870.
Both versions are brimming with kit. Immediately distinguishable from other Leons, SE features 17-inch twin-spoke alloy wheels, black roof rails and dark tinted rear windows. Rear parking sensors and twin exhaust tailpipes complete the look.
The premium feel continues on the inside, with dual zone climate control, leather steering wheel with orange stitching and X-PERIENCE logo, and cloth upholstered front sports seats with simil leather bolsters. Rounding off its practical nature is Hill Hold Control and a chrome loading sill for added protection when four-legged friends scrabble into the boot.
Upgrading to SE Technology costs £1,985, but brings a wealth of extras, which would cost £3,500 if bought individually. Befitting the name, many of them are high-end, such as SEAT Media System Plus with 5.8-inch colour touchscreen, DAB and satellite navigation, plus auto headlights, wipers and dimming rear view mirror.
On the outside, the flagship gains SEAT’s unique LED headlights and taillights, electrically folding door mirrors and 18-inch ‘X-PERIENCE’ machined alloy wheels. The interior gets even plusher too, with bespoke Alcantara upholstery and simil leather bolsters.
Latest-generation 4Drive system
The permanent all-wheel-drive in the new Leon X-PERIENCE is among the most modern and efficient systems of its kind. SEAT uses a newly developed multi-plate clutch with hydraulic actuation and electronic control – a fifth-generation Haldex clutch. In real world driving this means that the car is driven through the front wheels, with the 4Drive system continually monitoring real-time driving conditions. If it detects any loss in traction, it reacts within milliseconds to send torque smoothly to the wheels with the most grip.
While 4Drive copes with the terrain, the X-PERIENCE 2.0 TDI 184 DSG version also comes with SEAT Drive Profile, so that the driving experience can be tailored according to Normal, Sport and Eco modes.
Optional LUX pack
Leon X-PERIENCE is already well kitted out from a comfort, practicality and luxury point of view. Nevertheless, those opting for the SE Technology can take things to another level with the £1,250 Lux pack. The comprehensive upgrade combines black leather upholstery with simil leather bolsters, heated front seats, headlight washers and heated washer nozzles, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and chrome roof rails.
Plenty of individual options also abound across the range, such as panoramic sunroof, towbar pre-install, SEAT Sound audio system, and, crucially for adventurous types going off the beaten track, a space saver spare wheel (18-inch).
UK ordering for Leon X-PERIENCE opens on 1 September 2014, ahead of showroom launch in December.

USA - Iconic Soul Takes Top Honors in Urban Segment for Second Straight Year

  • 2014 Soul praised for versatility, ride comfort and new technology
  • Kia’s urban passenger vehicle is the right fit for those on the go

Kia Motors America’s (KMA) wildly popular urban passenger vehicle, the all-new 2014 Soul, was named a winner at the 10th annual Active Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year awards held in Chandler, Ariz. For the second consecutive year, the Soul received the highest score in the urban category after evaluations from local media and athletes.

“Having Soul named as a winner once again at the Active Lifestyle Vehicle awards is strong evidence that our complete redesign of this iconic vehicle was successful. While dramatically improving the Soul’s ride and handling qualities, as well as its interior appointments, it’s lost none of its fun, funky and young-at-heart personality,” said Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing & communications, KMA. “From the expansive cargo area to the roof rack mounts that come standard on every trim, the Soul speaks to those who want a vehicle that offers iconic design and all the things that support a youthful and active lifestyle.”

With a more premium look and feel, the 2014 Soul features a quiet cabin and more comfortable ride than its predecessor. The Soul offers an eight-inch navigation screen, Rear Camera Display1 and a host of other available amenities to make it an attractive offering.

“Kia has been a long-time supporter and participant in the ALV program, and their interest in our audience is obvious in the products,” said Nina Russin, founder Active Lifestyle Vehicle program. “The Soul has always been an awesome choice for urbanites that need a car with a small footprint but also a versatile interior. The 2014 car builds on the first generation with better ride and handling and enhanced technology.”

About the 2014 Soul
Instantly recognizable yet thoroughly fresh – with more than a passing nod to the hot Track’ster concept that was unveiled last year – the all-new 2014 Soul rides on a new chassis that is stiffer, longer and wider.  The Soul’s new dimensions allow for more passenger and cargo room while NVH levels have been reduced dramatically. Increased torque and significant suspension upgrades make the 2014 Soul a nimble and agile companion in congested urban environments, and inside there is a long list of standard comfort and convenience features, including Bluetooth®2 wireless technology and steering wheel-mounted controls.

FRANKFURT - Kia Niro Concept

  • Urban lifestyle concept unveiled at 2013 IAA
  • Possible new-style B-segment contender
  • 1.6-litre T-GDi engine with hybrid electric drive
Playful but gutsy, sturdy yet impish – Kia’s dramatic new Niro urban-lifestyle concept, unveiled at the IAA in Frankfurt on 10 September, hints at a possible future B-segment contender ready to take on the city environment with style and tenacity.

Ready for any challenge that the assured modern motorist may throw at it, the Niro combines a mischievous character in a clearly robust and substantial yet stylish bodyshape featuring a mix of contrasting materials in compact, purposeful dimensions.

Born out of Kia’s determination to seek new compact-car options for the individualistic and demanding driver for whom size is an issue, the concept features intriguing elements not always associated with smaller cars and has been created in Europe at Kia’s Frankfurt Design Studio with European tastes and expectations very much in mind.

Niro looks to bring an almost counter-4x4 image to the smaller B-segment.  Niro has the solidity and style of a solid-cast titanium watch case yet displays a nimble stance that hints at a readiness for action promising protection and capability.

Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer at Kia’s Frankfurt office – who led the concept team – said: “Ten years ago people wanted understated style in the SUV market, but increasingly as more people migrate to the B-segment they are looking for strong character and individuality.

“We believe Niro is cheekier and even sleeker to show a clear spirited and intrepid character – a car that has the tenacity to deal with any challenge that comes its way,” he added.

But Niro is no purely functional mud-plugger!  Instead its muscular and resolute style will meet the needs of owners who insist on being where the action is and are excited at the prospect of getting down and dirty!

“It may have the looks of a Dakar contender but Niro has a strong premium feel thanks to contrasting advanced modern materials that mix brawn with spirit to deliver a playful vehicle ready to be part of an active lifestyle,” Guillaume commented further.

Compact size on a new platform

Although Niro has been created to deliver a sturdy and muscular outline, it has relatively compact dimensions on an all-new platform that will form the basis of future B-segment products from Kia.

The design team started with an aim of creating a clearly muscular and purposeful outline and the startling two-tone exterior look is enhanced by its wheel-at-each-corner stance but in the urban battleground its 4,185cm overall length, 1,850cm width and 1,558cm height place it firmly in the city-car bracket.

The menacingly dark “Nightfall” coloured exterior is sharply and attractively offset by a brushed, stainless steel roof.  Enveloping the entire cabin, this two-finish construction gives a unique and strongly technological edge to Niro’s appearance.  Also adding a feel that the car is virtually bursting out of its skin are running-board type “blades” above the lower side-sills – echoed by similar creases in the front and rear lower valances.

Adding to the concept's chunky nature a 2,590cm wheelbase and 1,630cm track ensure it is firmly planted on the road and provides plenty of internal space.

The signature “tiger-nose” grille outline, front and rear towing hooks, bonnet-located air outlet and other elements are highlighted in anodised “Limelight” aluminium.

With a low cabin glasshouse and a deliberately angled front valance the Niro has an assertive and purposeful outline.

The front valance also features an asymmetric arrangement of air vent holes that was seen on the Provo concept in Geneva.  The aggressive front look is enhanced by an ice-cube light arrangement providing dip and main beam lights, strip daytime running lights around the edge of the lighting housing and also built-in quartered spot lights.

Entry is by dihedral “butterfly” doors that open into the roof panel and swing up high and with low-set flush handles. Mounted directly onto the side windows are milled “Plexiglas” door mirrors with in-built downward-facing cameras.

At the rear, as well as a rearward-facing video camera the functional tailgate has a secret in store.  Part of the rear light cluster swings up as an essential element of the hatch architecture to give good light and visibility into the cargo space, leaving behind the secondary section of the cluster to ensure safety by ensuring other road users can still see the car in the dark.

The hatch opens onto a huge carbon-fibre clad cargo deck ready to swallow the equipment and gadgets the driver and passenger may need or for a suite of luggage if the destination is up-town rather than out-of-town!

The Niro’s sturdy look is completed by special 225/40R20 tyres mounted on milled aluminium 20-inch five-spoke wheels.

Visionary but pragmatic

Niro may be a designers’ eye view of a future B-segment contender, but that doesn’t mean it is a pure flight of fancy.

Guillaume commented: “Right from the start, this particular B-segment project was about looking at where Kia might take its contenders in this part of the market.  This is a growing sector in Europe and Niro is just as much about our thinking for the future as Provo was.”

With that in mind, Niro comes with a variant of Kia’s turbocharged 1.6-litre ‘Gamma’ engine, developing 160ps.

In Niro the engine and seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission serve only the front wheels but an electric-hybrid system, powered from regenerative braking, delivers up to 45ps to the rear wheels – when road conditions require extra grip.

Tough style inside

Continuing Niro’s robust nature but combining that clear purpose with emphatic style, the interior has clearly not been designed with spartan outdoors activities in mind.

Guillaume said: “Going anywhere doesn’t mean going without style! And Niro delivers a very up-market interior.  But as a 2+2 with the flexibility of a large cargo deck it is clearly also ready for any purpose.”

Easy access is ensured by the butterfly doors being cut into that shimmering roof and the cabin layout has solidity and volume providing a substantial feeling and is dotted with luxury touches and materials.

Niro's interior echoes the one-piece moulded front seats seen in Provo but here, covered in a techno-look “Orbit Silver” line-quilted textile.  The clam-shell seat-backs tilt to allow access to a two-seat 50-50 split bench.

These occasional-use seats means Niro’s owners can accommodate passengers both when folded flat they form the front edge of that full-length carbon fibre load area allowing plenty of space for luggage, equipment or cargo – depending on the destination!

Extensive use of “Volcano Black” leather on the front dashboard and binnacle coupled with switchgear and other elements finished in either anodised black or “Limelight” aluminium give a cosseting and quality feel to the cabin.

A perfect seating position is delivered thanks to the fully adjustable pedal box and the deep-dished aluminium and leather steering wheel.

Ahead of the driver is a super-vision digital instrument binnacle that can be formatted and switched to provide appropriate information.  It features all the main instruments but additional information is displayed on a centre console-mounted screen.

This screen also allows the active owner to see and record live pictures from the video cameras mounted at the front and rear, in the door mirrors and elsewhere in the car.

The centre screen can also display altitude, vehicle attitude, compass and entertainment information, Bluetooth functions as well as mapping and satellite navigation – with directional commands relayed onto the main binnacle.

Small “winglets” on the binnacle handle main switching functions including direction indicators and camera displays.

Rising up between the transmission tunnel and the main dashboard structure are two anodised aluminium columns.  On first appearance they look to be simply strengthening struts – but the merest touch on the left-hand strut reveals additional functions.  The engine Start-Stop button is located here as well as the main transmission drive control.

Additional touch-sensitive panels allow control of the in-car entertainment and computer functions on the centre screen.  A ring on the right hand strut handles volume controls.

A promising future

Guillaume suggests that Niro could be close to on-road reality – if the public wants it!

“As designers we have to look at what the future could hold, not just what is probable, and we believe drivers want excitement and new solutions from their vehicles,” he commented.

“It is clear that the B-segment is growing as European motorists seek to downsize but it is equally clear that they refuse to give up individuality and distinctiveness – so Niro explores one avenue to satisfy that desire.

“We would love nothing more than to see all of our concept designs on the streets of Frankfurt or London or Paris tomorrow.  As Kia looks to add to its range of small cars for this future European market you have to look at where the market opportunities exist and how we can exploit them.  Perhaps Niro answers that challenge” he added.

Currently Kia Motors has not made final decisions on future B-segment products and there are no plans for Niro to go into commercial production in the immediate future – but the Niro’s appearance at the IAA will be used to gauge public opinion and possible demand.

Ferrari wins award from GQ mens lifestyle magazine

Ferrari has been honoured once again to receive a coveted award from GQ Magazine, one of the world’s most influential men’s lifestyle magazines, this time for the F12berlinetta which has been crowned “Supercar of the Year”. This is the second time that Ferrari has won this prestigious award, with the 458 Italia taking the same title in 2010.

Commenting on the latest addition to the Ferrari range, GQ Magazine said: “The F12 is a classic Ferrari GT, but it’s also the fastest, most powerful Ferrari production car ever. If its body looks too complex to be straightforwardly sinfully sexy, then bear in mind that all those scoops and ducts hustle air and bully physics more effectively than anything this side of an F1 car. And it’s a V12.”
The F12berlinetta strikes a perfect balance between maximum aerodynamic efficiency and the elegant proportions typical of Ferrari’s most powerful front-engined V12 cars. Since its launch, the car has been the object of universal acclaim from the press and public alike, with the GQ Magazine award following several other recent awards from BBC Top Gear Magazine’s “Supercar of the Year”, Auto Bild’s “Design Award”, The Sunday Times Driving’s “Best Supercar and Luxury Car” award and the Golden Steering Wheel award from Auto Bild andBild Am Sonntag, the first time a Ferrari has ever taken this leading German industry prize. The Ferrari F12berlinetta’s 6.3-litre V12 engine was also the winner of EVO magazine’s “Engine of the Year” award in November.
