Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced its production, sales and export figures for December 2013 and calendar year 2013.
1. Production
December
Nissan's global production in December increased 15.4% year-on-year to 396,211 units.
Production in Japan was down 5.8% year-on-year to 82,544 units. This is mainly due to decreased volume of Rogue. As previously announced, models for sale in the U.S are now produced at Nissan's Smyrna, Tennessee plant.
Production outside of Japan increased 22.7% year-on-year to 313,667 units, marking an all-time record for the month of December.
In the U.S., production increased 16.0% year-on-year to 57,629 units, mainly due to higher demand for the new Rogue, Nissan LEAF and Sentra.
In Mexico, production decreased 4.4% year-on-year to 38,574 units.
In the U.K., production decreased 12.5% year-on-year to 27,706 units, as consumers anticipated arrival of the new Qashqai.
In Spain, production increased 0.4% year-on-year to 8,177 units.
In China, production was 130,580 units, a robust year-on-year increase of 120.3%. This was mainly due to increased demand for the Sylphy series, Tiida, Qashqai and Teana, and is an all-time record for the month of December.
Production in other regions decreased 1.7% year-on-year to 51,001 units.
Calendar Year 2013
Nissan's global production in 2013 increased 1.3% year-on-year to 4,950,924 units, achieving an all-time calendar year record.
Production in Japan decreased 16.0% year-on-year to 964,546 units.
Overseas production increased 6.6% year-on-year to 3,986,378 units, reaching a record high for a calendar year.
In the U.S., production increased 22.9% year-on-year to 792,135 units.
In Mexico, production decreased 0.5% year-on-year to 680,278 units.
In the U.K., production decreased 1.7% year-on-year to 501,745 units.
In Spain, production decreased 7.9% year-on-year to 131,862 units.
In China, production was up 18.0% year-on-year to 1,247,249 units, achieving an all-time calendar year record. There has been five straight months of production increases since August.
Production in other regions increased 5.9% year-on-year to 633,109 units.
2. Sales
December
Global sales increased 15.0% year-on-year to 459,618 units, marking an all-time record for the month of December.
Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 46,193 units in Japan, up 18.3% year-on-year.
In Japan, vehicle registrations in December increased 1.0% year-on-year to 31,416 units.
Mini-vehicle sales in Japan increased 86.0% year-on-year to 14,777 units, mainly due to strong sales of Nissan DAYZ, marking an all-time record for the month of December.
Sales outside of Japan increased 14.6% year-on-year to 413,425 units.
Sales in the U.S. increased 10.5% year-on-year to 109,758 units, mainly due to higher demand for the new Rogue and Sentra, marking an all-time record for the month of December.
Sales in Mexico increased 1.5% year-on-year to 28,748 units, marking an all-time sales record for a single month. Nissan has been the sales leader in Mexico for 55 consecutive months.
In Europe, sales increased 8.8% year-on-year to 55,941 units, mainly due to increased sales in Russia.
In China, sales increased 70.4% year-on-year to 134,155 units, mainly due to increased demand for the Sylphy series, Teana and Qashqai, marking an all-time record for a single month.
Sales in other regions decreased 9.9% year-on-year to 77,817 units.
Calendar Year 2013
Global sales in 2013 increased 3.3% year-on-year to 5,102,979 units, setting an all-time calendar year record.
Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 678,824 units in Japan, up 2.9% year-on-year.
In Japan, Nissan's vehicle registrations in 2013 decreased 2.7% year-on-year to 492,895 units.
Domestic sales of mini-vehicles were up 21.3% on the previous year to 185,929 units, reaching a record high for a calendar year.
Sales outside of Japan increased 3.4% year-on-year to 4,424,155 units, marking an all-time calendar year record.
In the U.S., sales increased 9.4% year-on-year to 1,248,421 units, marking an all-time calendar year record.
In Mexico, sales increased 7.6% year-on-year to 264,463 units, marking an all-time calendar year record.
In Europe, sales decreased 4.0% year-on-year to 651,476 units.
In China, sales were up 17.2% year-on-year to 1,266,167 units, achieving an all-time calendar year record. There has been six straight months of sales increases since July.
Sales in other regions decreased 5.1% year-on-year to 900,804 units.
3. Japan Exports
December
Nissan's exports in December decreased 31.0% year-on-year to 45,386 units.
Calendar Year 2013
Nissan's exports in calendar year 2013 decreased 19.6% year-on-year to 542,415 units.
