This year's winner of the 2017 Towcar Of The Year was taken by Volkswagen and the Passat Alltrack.

Volkswagen’s Passat Estate Alltrack lifted this year’s overall trophy, and also scooped class and category wins in The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Competition.
The competition’s 47 entrants, which were split into seven price classes and two weight categories, saw winning vehicles from Volkswagen, Citroën, Peugeot, Škoda, Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
However, it was the Volkswagen Passat Estate Alltrack that took the overall victory. It was described as “one of the classiest mid-range cars by a mile”.

Each towcar was thoroughly tested – being judged not only on its towing performance over the testing circuit at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, but also for ‘caravanability’.  Caravanability evaluates how well the car caters for caravanner’s needs – how much typical holiday gear and caravan essentials it can accommodate, how easily it can be hitched up to a caravan and the quality of towing information available in its handbook.  Also added to the marking equation was the towcar’s value for money.
Seven driving judges evaluated each car for its dynamic abilities and ergonomic qualities – the test route included tight and twisty ‘country lanes’, 17% hill stops and starts, as well as circuits of a high-speed bowl.  They were also put through rigorous reversing examinations. These four days of rigorous evaluation highlighted that every vehicle could be considered a respectable towcar, so long as it was properly matched to its caravan.
Price class awards in the competition went to: the Citroën C4 Cactus Rip Curl BlueHDi 100; Peugeot 308 SW Active BlueHDi 120;  Škoda Superb SE L Executive 2.0TDI 150PS; Volkswagen Golf Estate Alltrack 2.0TDI 4MOTION 150 PS; Volkswagen Passat Estate Alltrack 2.0TDI SCR 4MOTION 150 PS; Mercedes-Benz E220d AMG Line Saloon; and the BMW X5 xDrive40d M Sport.
All-wheel drive vehicles competed in two additional weight categories; ‘Under 1800kg’ and ‘Over 1800kg’. The BMW X5 xDrive40d took the ‘Over 1800kg’ prize, while the Volkswagen Passat Estate Alltrack took first place in the ‘Under 1800kg’ category before going on to win the overall title.
The results of the competition were announced at The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Awards ceremony, held at the Royal Automobile Club in London on 22 September.  The awards were presented by Olympic athlete, Roger Black MBE.
Grenville Chamberlain, The Caravan Club Chairman, said: “It was a thrill to see such a great choice of vehicles being put through their paces during the Competition – the winning manufacturers should feel very proud of their achievements.  These vehicles will enable our Caravan Club members to have wonderful holidays and effortless towing experiences.”

Yvan Muller, one of the worlds most impressive drivers has announced his retirement from the WTCC at the seasons end.

Four-time World Champion Yvan Muller, who has been an official Citroën driver since midway through 2013, has announced that this season will be his last in the FIA WTCC. Currently lying joint second in the overall standings, the driver of Citroën C-Elysée WTCC No. 68 will be looking to hold on to that position in the last two meetings of the season in Shanghai and Qatar.
Over a professional career spanning more than thirty years, Yvan Muller has built one of the most impressive records in French motor sport, with four FIA World Touring Car Championship titles in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013.
He holds every WTCC record going, with 29 pole positions, 48 race wins, 125 podium finishes, 38 fastest laps and 2,826 points scored in 244 starts.
After starting out in karting (finishing as World Championship runner-up in 1985 and European Champion in 1986), he naturally progressed to single-seater racing, winning the British Formula 2 Championship in 1992.
With no F1 openings, the man from Alsace turned to touring car racing in 1994. French Champion in 1995, he then competed in the Italian, German and British championships, picking up the BTCC title in 2003, before making the switch to the FIA WTCC in 2006.
He also made his name as the best driver on ice, with ten Andros Trophy crowns and several victories in the Chamonix 24-hour race. His wealth of experience across the world includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans, V8 Supercars in Australia, the Dakar Rally and a few rounds of the WRC.
Surprising as it may seem, Yvan Muller had never worked with a French manufacturer before he joined Citroën Racing.
In July 2013, when the development of the Citroën C-Elysée WTCC and the organisation of the FIA WTCC team got under way, he provided the benefit of his immense experience and helped lay the foundations for the success that would later be achieved.
Yvan proved a vital member of the new set up, claiming four pole positions and four race wins in 2014, enough to secure him second place in the World Championship, behind José María López and ahead of Sébastien Loeb. He finished second in the driver standings again in 2015, with three pole positions and six race wins to his name.
Yvan has had more than his fair share of bad luck this year, but he is nevertheless currently sitting in second place in the overall standings, level on points with Tiago Monteiro.
Having announced that his FIA WTCC career will end after this season, the holder of every record in the competition is determined to go out on a high by securing a championship one-two for Citroën Racing.
WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY
Yvan Muller: “I am not sure that age is the main factor when it comes to ending a career. It’s more a matter of desire and motivation. With all the testing, the simulator sessions, the physical training and the travel to the race venues, a season of professional motor racing requires a level of personal commitment that I am no longer prepared to put in.
At the same time, I am at a time of my life where I want to do something else and I am happy to be able to make that decision after eleven seasons of FIA WTCC.
I’ve had some great experiences over my career. These three seasons with Citroën Racing have been particularly special, even though I never managed to be World Champion with this team. But I will always be proud of having helped to build our racing programme and develop the Citroën C-Elysée WTCC.
I have also met some great people who are passionate about their job and have a fierce competitive spirit. Driving has been part of my daily life for so long that I can’t see myself stopping racing entirely.
But I am going to spend more time with my family and developing my team, Yvan Muller Racing. Before that, though, I am going to put everything I’ve got into meeting the team’s goals.”
Yves Matton, Citroën Racing Team Principal: “The whole Citroën Racing team is proud to have Yvan Muller in its ranks. Every time we get involved in a competition, we look to recruit the best drivers.
That is why we invited Yvan to join us from the start of our involvement in FIA WTCC. We will not forget his contribution. Coming in from rally driving, we had everything to learn, and he has always been more than happy to offer the team the benefit of all his experience.
He is a great competitor and a great guy, who has always put Citroën’s interests first. It is to Yvan’s credit that, after three seasons with us, he has decided to end his career at a point when he is still capable of winning pole positions, races and titles.
He will always be part of the Citroën Racing family and we wish him all the best for the next stage of his life, which we will follow with interest.”

MG is looking to beat all previous months with a big September sales push, the GS will help make this possible.

Building on the launch of its all-new SUV – the MG GS – and ‘End of Summer Madness’ seasonal campaign success, MG Motor UK is gearing up for what is expected to be another record-breaking quarter.
According to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) earlier this month, the iconic British marque increased its sales by 130% compared to the same month last year.
In addition, it reported the 4th highest percentage increase in registrations across the market, with year-to-date figures up 17.95% compared to 2015.
With three months of the year still to run, this means that MG has already sold more cars than in any full year previously, up to 2015.
Matthew Cheyne, Sales and Marketing Director at MG Motor UK, commented: “The achievement of such positive sales figures is not only testament to the quality of our model range, but also to the outstanding performance and commitment of our national dealer network.
“We take great pride in developing cars to suit every customer. Our MG GS SUV perfectly blends style and functionality to make it the ultimate all-rounder, while the MG3 is fun both inside and out – packed full of technology to suit all manner of driving styles, without breaking the bank.
“We’re delighted with our performance so far in 2016 and look forward to carrying this on in the coming months as we continue to offer our customers competitive, affordable and exciting vehicles. As September tends to be one of the busiest months of the year for new car registrations, thanks to the plate change, we’re hoping next month’s figures are just as impressive.”
MG’s latest registration figures reflect an industry-wide trend, with the market growing by 3.3% overall against the same month last year. A total of 81,640 new cars were registered in August 2016, with year-to-date performance remaining positive, up 2.8% to 1.68 million units.

43 million units, 50 years and still counting, thats the Toyota Corolla, with a special 50th Anniversary edition model.

  • Refreshed styling and upgraded interior
  • Standard Toyota Safety Sense-P (TSS-P) on all Corolla models
  • Limited 50th Anniversary Special Edition Corolla
  • Backup camera added to L grade; now standard across the board
  • 7-in touch screen Scout Navigation standard on select models
Forty-three million and counting. That’s the number of Corollas that Toyota has sold globally since it began building the landmark model in the fall of 1966. And that makes Corolla the best-selling nameplate of all time. That’s a lot of happy drivers.

What better way to mark the Corolla’s 50th anniversary than with refreshed styling and, more significantly, a new safety system? Just for good measure, though, Toyota has also introduced a Corolla SE 50th Anniversary Special Edition model, featuring special paint and trim color in the SE model with moonroof, Smart Key and Entune Audio Plus.
The Corolla gets a sportier look for 2017 thanks to a new front grille and LED headlamps. The L, LE and LE Eco grades gain Bi-LED headlamps, while complex-LED headlamps come standard on SE, XSE and XLE grades. With the base L model adding a back-up camera, that feature is now standard across the Corolla line. Redesigned 16-inch wheels are standard on the LE and XLE, while the SE and XSE step up into standard 17-inch alloy wheels.

The 2017 Corolla’s upgraded fabric interior offers a choice between added elegance in the LE with Almond, Ash/Dark Gray or Black/Brown color schemes, or bold sportiness with Softex-trimmed sport seats with Vivid Blue, Orange Zest, and Black premium fabric inserts in the SE. A redesigned climate control panel and circular air vents add an upscale touch.
Onboard entertainment has come a very long way since the first Corolla’s AM radio. Standard Bluetooth and Entune™ Audio are among the features that help make the 2017 Corolla a standout value in its segment. Audio and connectivity upgrades abound, including available Entune Audio Plus with Connected Navigation (Scout® GPS Link App) or available Entune Premium Audio with Integrated Navigation and App Suite. Both the Entune Audio Plus and Entune Premium Audio systems feature a 7-inch touch screen for 2017.
Safety Leap
What Corolla customers are sure to appreciate, even more than great audio, is the advanced Toyota Safety Sense-P (TSS-P) technology.  Standard on all Corollas, TSS-P is a safety system that bundles the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection; Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist; Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beams.

Toyota is committed to making Toyota Safety Sense standard on nearly all its models by the end of 2017. That will put Toyota (and Lexus) four years ahead of the model-year 2022 industry target announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
“The World’s Car”
The first Toyota Corolla went into production in November 1966 and made its United States debut in 1968. By 1970, Corolla was already among the more popular import cars in the country. The Corolla has evolved over the decades, becoming roomier, more powerful, more efficient, and gaining ever more advanced safety technology.

Today, Toyota sells approximately 1.5 million Corollas globally each year. Sixteen plants worldwide assemble Corollas, including at Toyota’s assembly plants in Blue Springs, Miss. (since October 2011) and in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada (since November 1988). With customers in more than 150 countries, the Corolla has earned its title as “The World’s Car.”
50th Anniversary Special Edition
The Corolla SE 50th Anniversary Special Edition celebrates this important milestone year for Corolla with a deft and elegant designer touch. Building on the SE grade’s upscale features, the 50th Anniversary Special Edition adds an exclusive exterior color, Black Cherry Pearl.  Also available in Classic Silver and Blizzard Pearl, the Corolla SE 50th Anniversary Special Edition will be offered in a run of 8,000 vehicles.

Inside, Toyota made this anniversary model extra special with black mixed media seats with Black Cherry piping and contrast stitching. Black Cherry contrast stitching also trims the black interior’s steering wheel and shift boot. The distinctive Black Cherry theme also distinguishes the dash panel and door trim, and unique “50th Anniversary Edition” floor mats and exterior rear badging make the final touch.

The 2017 Corolla 50th Anniversary Edition comes standard with a 7-inch touch-screen and Entune Audio Plus with Connected Navigation (Scout® GPS Link App). There’s also a color 4.2-inch TFT Multi-Information Display in the gauge panel. A standard Smart Key system with push button start and power tilt/slide moonroof add an upscale touch to this special Corolla.
On Corolla’s Golden Anniversary, It’s Still the Gold Standard in Value
The 2017 Corolla upholds the model’s well-earned reputation for value and quality, starting with roominess. Consider the Corolla’s 41.4 inches of rear seat legroom, which gives it a 3-7 inch advantage over most competitors.

The Corolla L model offers renowned Toyota quality, durability and reliability in an affordable package. In addition to TSS-P, continuously variable transmission with intelligence (CVTi-S) and air conditioning with a dust and pollen filter, the Corolla L grade includes as standard:

  • Integrated backup camera
  • Monochrome 3.5-inch TFT Multi-Information Display
  • USB and iPod® connectivity
  • Integrated backup camera with projected path guidelines
  • Bi-LED headlamps
  • Bluetooth for hands-free phone control, phone book access and audio streaming
  • 60/40 split fold-down rear seat
  • Tilt and telescoping steering column
  • Power windows and door locks
  • Overhead console with map light
  • Entune™ Audio with 6.1-inch display screen and six speakers.
The most popular Corolla grade, the LE, steps up comfort with:
  • Upgraded interior fabric trim and 3-spoke steering wheel
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Automatic Climate Control with dust and pollen filter
  • Color-keyed heated power outside mirrors

Anticipated To Be The Most Fuel-Efficient Corolla: 2017 Corolla LE Eco CVT
When the first Corolla arrived in the U.S., gasoline cost about 25 cents per gallon (the equivalent of about $1.75 in 2016). Many American drivers saw the long-term value in higher fuel economy and chose Corolla for that reason. Through the decades, fuel efficiency has always been a promise the Corolla has kept.

The 2017 Corolla LE Eco CVT is expected to be the fuel economy champ of the line, with a projected rating of 40 MPG highway. As a testament to Toyota engineering, the Corolla LE Eco CVT doesn’t compromise performance or comfort with such an expected exceptional fuel economy number. Its LE trim, for example, is the most popular in the Corolla line for its comfort and amenities.

The 2017 Corolla LE Eco CVT is the most powerful Corolla in the line, as well, with a specially tuned 140 horsepower 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine in place of the 132-horsepower version used in the other models. This exclusive version of the engine features Valvematic technology, which offers a broader range of continuously variable valve timing (lift and phasing) than even the Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) in the standard Corolla engine.
A savvy combination of powertrain technology and aerodynamic features also help boost fuel economy in this model. The Corolla LE Eco cheats the wind with aerodynamic underbody covers and a color-keyed rear spoiler, which brings its coefficient of drag (Cd) down to an impressive 0.28 compared to 0.29 and 0.30 in other Corolla models.

Toyota programmed accelerator response to compensate for choppy driving habits and to control acceleration from a standing start in order to help reduce fuel consumption. However, when you press the accelerator past 50-percent, the Corolla LE Eco responds as in Normal mode to provide the needed power for merging in traffic.

Selecting the ECO driving mode reduces power to the air conditioner compressor, although the system runs in recirculation mode to compensate for the longer cool-down time. Special low rolling resistance P195/65R15 tires help to reduce fuel usage, and these can be upgraded to larger 205/55R16 tires on aerodynamic alloy wheels.
A Smarter CVT
Corolla’s advanced Continuously Variable Transmission with intelligence Shift (CVTi-S) also helps maximize fuel economy. It’s programmed to respond more like a conventional geared automatic using discrete stepped shift points for acceleration and deceleration. The CVTi-S even mimics the familiar characteristics of hydraulic automatics by creating a sense of positive shift engagement.
The Strong, Quiet Type
If the Corolla’s expansive rear legroom draws comparisons to larger cars, the quietness of its cabin underscores the parallel. The Corolla’s uni-body, which makes extensive use of high tensile-strength steel, provides a rigid platform that forms a foundation for tight handling and ride smoothness. An extensive array of measures help keep outside noises out, including acoustic glass windshield, floor carpet insulation, an instrument panel seal between the cowl and the windshield, fender insulators and an inner dash silencer pad.
A rigid steering structure enhances the direct feeling coming through the electric power-assist steering system. There’s also no messy hydraulic steering fluid to change or top off. The high-strength structure allows the suspension to be tuned for agility without sacrificing comfort.
Star Safety
High-strength construction sets the foundation for exemplary collision performance in the Corolla.  In addition to the new TSS P system, the Corolla continues to include, as standard, the Toyota Star Safety System™. This comprehensive array includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. The Corolla also comes equipped with the Smart Stop Technology brake-override system and an electronic tire pressure monitoring system.
Limited Warranty
Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation.

Standard Toyota Care is a complimentary plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.

USA - The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety announced that the '17 Cadillac XT5 crossover has earned the Top Safety Pick+

  • TSP+ is IIHS’ highest rating
  • Advanced structure aids in creating excellent crash safety
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today announced that the 2017 Cadillac XT5 crossover has earned a rating of 2016 Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) when equipped with optional front crash prevention. A rating of TSP+ is the highest rating a vehicle can earn from the IIHS.
To qualify for a TSP+ rating, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the five crashworthiness tests — small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints — and an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention.
“Passenger safety was one of our top priorities when we engineered the XT5,” said Paul Spadafora, XT5 chief engineer. “We equipped the XT5 with Cadillac’s full set of driver awareness and driver assistance systems to aid collision avoidance. Just as importantly, we designed an advanced structure that is both stiffer and lighter, for excellent crashworthiness. This included a revised front structure that specifically targets the challenging offset barrier scenario.”
The 2017 XT5 is standard with seven airbags. OnStar’s suite of emergency services, including Automatic Crash Response, is available. The XT5 also offers numerous advanced safety systems included in the Driver Awareness and Driver Assist Packages.
The Driver Awareness Package includes the Safety Alert Seat, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, front pedestrian detection, Front Automatic Braking and IntelliBeam headlights (automatic high beam). It is available on the XT5 Luxury trim level and is standard on XT5 Premium Luxury and Platinum.
The Driver Assist Package includes adaptive cruise control, Automatic Safety Belt Tightening, Automatic Park Assist, Automatic Collision Braking and Front and Rear Automatic Braking. It is available on the XT5 Premium Luxury and Platinum trims. These features are required for the XT5 to earn the TSP+ rating.
The front rails of XT5’s body structure exemplify the design approach. Using extensive computer simulations and data from physical tests, engineers “splayed” the front rails on each side, widening and angling the structure slightly outward. This design alteration targeted offset barrier impacts and contact to the front corners of the vehicle, a vital aspect in safety testing and real-world collisions.
