2015 Volkswagen Jetta Heads to New York.

Volkswagen is pulling out all the stops at the 2014 New York Auto Show, bringing with it more than a few refreshed and new models. The German automaker will also be celebrating 40 years of the Golf, along with the new Sportwagen and 2015 Jetta.

The Volkswagen Jetta, which has been in its sixth generation since 2011, is in serious need of an update. Luckily, Volkswagen announced in a statement that it will "debut the 2015 Model Year Jetta at the New York International Auto Show," and that the new Jetta "will feature a refreshed exterior, improved fuel economy and a host of new safety and technology features."

With the current Jetta receiving an overall 5-Star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, we can expect the automaker to improve from there. The 2014 Jetta didn't manage to earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating, thanks to its "Marginal" rating in the difficult small overlap front crash test. However, this may change for the 2015 model year.

Although a full redesign isn't expected until 2017, Volkswagen will feature a new optional diesel engine that has a projected 45-46 mpg highway. It is still under testing, but the automaker hopes to target the popular Chevrolet Cruze diesel.
