A lucky retired couple from Peterborough have won a Mitsubishi Outlander worth more than £30,000 courtesy of The Caravan Club. Stephen and Margaret Forster, from Werrington, won the top prize of a fantastic new GX4 2.2 DI-D manual Outlander after entering into the competition run by The Caravan Club in February.
Out of the thousands of entries received, theirs was the one drawn out of the hat and the pair were presented with the 4x4 vehicle at Unity Mitsubishi in Newark Road, where retired headteacher Stephen, 63, said: ‘We entered the competition but never thought we would win so it’s brilliant.
I’ve taken it for a test-drive and it’s a lovely car, I’ve never driven anything like it. It’s got a sat nav, a reversing camera and cruise control – it’s just amazing.’
Retired school librarian Margaret, 60, added: ‘It’s fantastic to win. We were away on holiday when we got the message from The Caravan Club and we couldn’t believe it. We very much enjoy the outdoors and like to go to Northumberland, Yorkshire and Norfolk so this is wonderful, it will be very good on the long journeys.’
Lauren Groves, who was at the handover representing The Caravan Club, said: ‘It’s always a pleasure giving such great news. As part of the prize, Mr and Mrs Forster also have a year’s membership to The Club, so we hope they will consider caravanning in the future – especially now they have a towcar that was commended as a “large, comfortable vehicle that gives a reassuring feel” by the Judges at our Towcar Of The Year Awards 2015. We look forward to welcoming them to one of our sites which have camping pods or cottages so they can experience our fantastic sites in beautiful locations.’
The Outlander diesel is packed with clever technological features and has a five-star Euro-NCAP safety rating with 100 per cent in the “active safety” category. It also boasts best-in-class fuel efficiency and CO2emissions, and is lighter, quieter and more refined than ever. The super-efficient DI-D engine features both Mitsubishi’s Auto Stop & Go technology and a new Eco driving mode to save on fuel consumption – so much so that the all-new Outlander can get from London to John O’Groats on a single tank of fuel.
Maggie Blake, General Manager at Unity Mitsubishi, said: ‘The Outlander is the perfect vehicle for towing caravans, being both rugged and reliable. We’re delighted for Stephen and Margaret that they have won The Caravan Club competition and we wish them many happy miles and years of caravanning as well as use of the Outlander.’
