UK SALES 2015 - Mitsubishi continues to grow, 44% up on 2014 beating the majority of the competition.

Mitsubishi Motors was the UK’s fastest growing mainstream brand in 2015 according to year-end sales results released by the SMMT today. The company has seen sales growth in passenger cars of 44 per cent compared to the previous year, against an overall market up by 6 per cent.

Last year was not the first year that the brand achieved significant growth. In 2013 the company’s sales were up by 38 per cent and in 2014 they were up by 75 per cent beating all other mainstream rivals in each respective year.

The company is reaping the growth of sales across its whole range, resulting from higher levels of marketing investment, a growing dealer network, and the impact of the dramatic sales of its Outlander Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PHEV).

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been a major highlight of the UK car market over the last two years. Its introduction transformed the plug-in market, which it leads with a significant share of 41%.

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK is pleased with the Government’s recent announcement to continue the Plug-in Car Grant (PiCG)[1] and are currently dealing with the increase in demand where customers can order their Outlander PHEV’s by the end of February 2016[2] to benefit from the current £5,000 PiCG. From the 1st March this year, the PiCG for Outlander PHEV reduces to £2,500.

Contributing to the company’s thriving success is the launch of the outstanding Mitsubishi L200 Series 5. Having been named by Auto Express magazine ‘Pick-Up of the Year’ for 2015, this model received another two accolades last month for ‘The Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year’ and the award for ‘Pick-up of the Year’ at the prestigious What Van? Awards.

The Mitsubishi Shogun and ASX also continue to perform very well, up 18% and 20% respectively year on year.

Mitsubishi Motors’ Managing Director in the UK, Lance Bradley said: “We have made impressive and sustainable progress during the last three years and are on target for more of the same during 2016. Being the UK’s fastest growing mainstream vehicle brand for the last three years lays the firm foundation for a series of exciting new initiatives this year.”
