At this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Citroën unveils its core line-up with a debut of two models that are clear signs of the bold new positioning of the Citroën range: the New Citroën C4 Cactus and New Citroën C1.
DS line, with 420,000 vehicles sold since launching in 2010, asserts itself as an alternative to the traditional Premium brands and continues its development, particularly in overseas markets with DS 5LS.
Citroën at the Geneva Motor Show includes:
- Two vehicles shown for the first time, vehicles that perfectly embody the change in direction taken by Citroën for the core of its range – more design, more comfort, more useful technology and all of this available to those on a limited budget. The New Citroën C4 Cactus is a real alternative to compact hatchbacks and Citroën goes even further by offering an original and surprising interpretation of this new model, the C4 Cactus Aventure concept car. Citroën also presents the reworking of a flagship model, the New Citroën C1. The brand also reveals a new addition to the Citroën C5 range, the CrossTourer version, a model that spotlights the Hydractive III+ suspension, offered by no other brand in the world. Finally, Citroën is showing the New Citroën C4 Picasso and New Grand C4 Picasso at Geneva, models that have already recorded more than 72,000 orders.
- DS line, positioned as an alternative to the traditional Premium brands, continues its development in overseas markets with the launch of DS 5LS, a top of the range hatchback, powerful and refined, produced at the Shenzhen plant in China. This level of refinement is also found with the Faubourg Pack available on the Citroën DS3, DS3 Cabrio, DS4 and DS5. DS line is always bolder, like DS3 Cabrio Racing, a sporty version that combines the strengths of the DS3 Racing with the pleasure of driving with the top down. New possibilities for customisation are offered for DS line with a two-tone roof now available as an option on DS4. Finally, DS5 benefits from the arrival of the new BlueHDi engines as well as changes to suspension.
- A technology offensive with new engines that combine driving pleasure with efficiency, while also meeting the Euro 6 emissions standard. For petrol, Citroën introduces the PureTech Turbo engine with the Citroën C4 e-THP 130, delivering an average 23% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to the previous generation. For Diesel, Citroën offers the new BlueHDi engines that include the most efficient technology for dealing with NOx emissions while at the same time also reducing CO2emissions. This technology is available on several of the brand’s engines and models, including DS5 BlueHDi 120 (102g/km CO2) and DS5 BlueHDi 180 (114g/km CO2) or the New C4 Cactus BlueHDi 100 (82 g/km CO2). Finally, Citroën’s technology offensive is also illustrated by a new sporting challenge with the presentation of the Citroën C-Elysée WTCC which lines up at the start of the FIA World Touring Car Championship on 12-13 April at Marrakech, in Morocco. A new sporting challenge for the brand that holds eight World Rally Championship (WRC) manufacturers’ titles.
NEW INTRODUCTIONS
NEW CITROËN C4 CACTUS: NEW WORLD, NEW IDEAS
Our world is changing and customer expectations are evolving at an increasingly rapid rate, which means ever greater demands on today’s products and services. With the New C4 Cactus, Citroën has acknowledged these new customer requirements, offering a real alternative to the traditional compact hatchback.
Boasting a striking design, the New Citroën C4 Cactus stands out in the competitive C segment, offering a unique style that is both functional and attractive. In doing so, Citroën meets a specific challenge – bringing customers more of what really counts.
The New Citroën C4 Cactus heralds a new approach to automotive design, offering:
- More design
- Greater comfort
- More useful technology
- …with a reduced cost of ownership.
> Airbump® technology, a Citroën exclusive, is useful, aesthetic, and customisable. Airbump® technology neatly sums up the fundamental purpose of design, to combine style and practicality. Fitted to the sides of the car and the bumpers, Airbump® adds a graphic structure to the pure, smooth bodylines of the New Citroën C4 Cactus. Above all it provides real day-to-day protection, as the supple TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) skin comprises air capsules to absorb impacts. Airbump® requires no specific maintenance and directly contributes to cutting vehicle repair costs.
> A completely digital intuitive driving interface. The Citroën Multicity Connect application portal is controlled from the 7-inch touchscreen, which is fitted as standard, offering a range of apps designed to make life easier for all occupants.
> Wide front seat cushions designed with a sofa in mind.
> ‘Airbag In Roof’ technology, the only application of this in the world – transferring the passenger airbag to the roof and deploying it over the windscreen, rather than positioning it in the dashboard, giving the front passenger more room and storage space.
> A panoramic sunroof with thermally insulated glass (the best available on the market)to bathe the cabin with light and provide advanced heat protection.
> Reduce running costs by eliminating the unnecessary. With efficient engines of the latest generation and weighing 200kg less than a Citroën C4, New Citroën C4 Cactus combines driving enjoyment with reduced consumption – 91.1mpg and CO2 emissions of just 82 g/km for the diesel version and 100 g/km for the petrol.
At Geneva, the New Citroën C4 Cactus will be shown as an “Adventure” concept, the styling of which invites the driver to cross borders, to travel and meet people. This concept highlights the graphic elements on the New Citroën C4 Cactus and the many possibilities offered by this new model.
CITROËN C5 CROSSTOURER
The C5 CrossTourer is an “all roads” version of the Citroën C5, a dynamic character which includes all of the strengths of a model that has sold more than 530,000 examples worldwide.
- “All roads” style gives the vehicle an assertive personality with special wheel arch extensions, matt grey longitudinal roof bars combined with specific 18’’ matt grey diamond-pattern alloy wheels, chrome door mirror shells and brushed aluminium protectors on the front and rear bumpers. The ride height is also raised by 15 mm (up to 70 km/h on versions fitted with Hydractive III+ suspension).
- Optimum comfort adapting to all types of roads thanks in particular to the Hydractive III+ suspension. This technology, exclusive to Citroën, allows the ride height to be controlled in real time so as to maintain a constant ground clearance regardless of vehicle load. This suspension adapts according to the demands from the driver and the profile of the road for an optimum level of comfort and body control.
Automatic lowering of the ride height at high speed improves aerodynamics. At moderate speeds, the C5 CrossTourer can use one of two additional ride heights (+6 cm up to 10 km/h and +4 cm up to 40 km/h) to facilitate crossing uneven terrain at low speed. A variable ride height also facilitates loading by lowering or raising the height of the boot sill. This suspension is available with all engines except the HDi 115 with manual gearbox and the e-HDi 115 Airdream with 6-speed electronically controlled gearbox. Still with comfort in mind, the Citroën C5 CrossTourer also offers a massaging driver’s seat with electric lumbar adjustment and full leather trim.
- Useful technologies, including Intelligent Traction Control which improves handling on snow or mud-covered roads, and the eMyWay navigation system combined with a reversing camera makes for easier manoeuvres.
NEW CITROËN C4 PICASSO AND NEW GRAND C4 PICASSO: A CHANGE OF ERA
The New Citroën C4 Picasso and New Grand C4 Picasso have already recorded more than 72,000 orders and won many awards.
Whilst both models have a clearly different style and signature, they unite in delivering:
- More design with strong and expressive styling,
- More comfort with interiors that have:
- Benchmark spaciousness (the most spacious rows 2 and 3 in the segment for the 7- seat model)
- Record boot volume: 537-litres VDA for C4 Picasso and 645-litres VDA for Grand C4 Picasso and more than 700-litres with row 2 seats fully forward
- Unprecedented proportions made possible by the PSA Group’s new EMP2 platform, which also allowed a reduction in weight of up to 140 kg on the 5 seat version.
- More useful technology with a 100% touch driving interface and other innovations to make driving easier such as the 360 VISION system,
- Impressive economy with up to 74.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 98 g/km, a record in the category.
The New Citroën C4 Picasso and New Grand C4 Picasso are also available with the new BlueHDi 150 engine that meets the Euro 6 emissions standard by including an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) module, the most effective way of dealing with NOx emissions while still reducing CO2 emissions. This engine presents a completely unprecedented balance of performance and fuel consumption in the category: maximum power of 150hp for CO2 emissions of just 110 g/km for the manual version, and 117 g/km with the latest generation automatic gearbox.
DS, AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE TRADITIONAL PREMIUM BRANDS
With 420,000 vehicles sold since launch, DS line continues its success with further development, particularly in overseas markets and is positioned as an alternative to the traditional Premium brands.
DS 5LS: A POWERFUL AND REFINED HATCHBACK
Produced at the Shenzen plant in China, DS 5LS is another step in DS brand’s development in China. DS 5LS harmoniously marries the requirements for the segment in terms of volume and spaciousness, with the refinement, style and power that are characteristic of a DS.
DS 5LS is characterised by a powerful and refined silhouette (length: 4.70m / width: 1.84m / height: 1.50m), with voluptuous and sensual curves. It introduces the new identity for the DS front end, “DS Wings”, which is characterised by the sculpted grille. A chrome signature on the sides extends from the windows to the boot, underlining strength and personality with elegance and refinement. Wide tracks associated with well dimensioned wheels complete and strengthen the dynamic styling of DS 5LS. At the rear, this model is distinguished by the exclusive LED lamps: a chrome ring in the lens emphasises the 3D aspect of the lighting functions.
Inside, the refinement continues with high quality authentic materials such as metals, wood and semi-aniline leather. The passengers in this premium hatchback are welcomed into a spacious and sophisticated world, sublimated by the quality of the leather used to trim the entire cabin up to the dashboard. The leathers used, previously reserved for luxury brands, are enhanced by the seat motif referred to as “bracelet”, exclusive to DS models and the perfect illustration of the best French know-how.
DS 5LS offers effective and efficient technology with engines like the THP 160 and THP 200, with sequential direct injection, fed by a high pressure pump, and a Twin Scroll turbocharger. They are associated with a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Finally, DS 5LS, is a benchmark for well-being in the segment with the longest wheelbase in the C segment (2.71 m), seats designed for comfort (massaging front seats, rear seats with backrests angled at 29°, aircraft type head restraints), a purified atmosphere (air ioniser), audio systems (Arkamys system, DENON Hi-Fi offer), systems to facilitate familiarisation and driving (keyless entry and starting, blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera) and a complete telematics offering (colour touch screen, DVD player, emergency calls).
This new model, sales of which will start in China in March 2014, is a great asset for continuing the development of DS line in overseas markets.
DS FAUBOURG PACK
The Faubourg Pack, available on Citroën DS3, DS3 Cabrio, DS4 and DS5, is yet another showcase of the brand’s creativity in the customisation and refinement available in DS line.
The finish makes use of processes unheard of in the automobile world. An incarnation of the skills of artisans producing luxury articles, this exterior finish presents the DS logo, by including it in the roof on DS3 and DS4. For DS5, the DS logo plays with transparency. Overprinted in the cockpit roof, it intercepts the light and spreads it throughout the cabin. The DS motif is also used for the mirror shells where it is laser-etched, jewel-like, an innovation that gives a sensory feel.
The Faubourg Pack also introduces the new Whisper Purple body colour, a deep black with subtle shades of violet. Other body colours such as Pearlescent White on DS3 and DS3 Cabrio, Pearl Grey on DS4 and DS5, as well as Perla Nera Black on all four models in the line, are also available.
With refinement down to the smallest detail, the Faubourg Pack also offers diamond-effect alloy wheels with Whisper Purple or black caps, depending on model and body colour.
DS3 CABRIO RACING
Chic and sporty, Citroën DS3 Cabrio Racing combines the strong characteristics of DS3 Racing with the pleasure of top-down driving in a DS3 Cabrio.
Taking the styling cues of Citroën DS3 Cabrio, it has also been given 100% of the attributes of the Racing, like its strong and classy temperament: an air diffuser, dual chrome exhaust tailpipes as well as a real carbon fibre finish on many parts of the bodywork (air diffuser, lower body finishers, wheel arch extensions).
The Citroën DS3 Cabrio Racing is offered in a new Moondark matt grey body colour, teamed with a black roof and 18’’ Nemesis gloss black wheels. The Carmin Red colour, specific to DS line, is used for the centre wheel caps, carrying the DS logo, as well as for a wide band on the doors.
A Citroën Racing signature on the backrests of the front seats and a numbered identification plate on the gear lever surround communicate the exclusiveness of DS3 Cabrio Racing, a model limited to just 100 examples.
Performance is at the heart of Citroën DS3 Cabrio Racing, with its 1.6 litre engine, developed by Citroën Racing, producing 207hp – a benefit from all of the brand’s expertise.
CITROËN DS4: NEW POSSIBILITIES FOR CUSTOMISATION
Citroën offers a new possibility for customising the Citroën DS4 with a model presented in two-tone paint, a characteristic of DS line.
The roof, spoiler and mirror shells can be distinct from the body and finished in Perla Nera black or Whisper Purple, a deep black with subtle shades of violet, or Virtual Blue. Customisation is made possible by a special workshop at the vehicle’s production site at Mulhouse.
CITROËN DS5: COMFORT AND DRIVING ENJOYMENT
With the arrival of the new powerful and environmentally considerate BlueHDi engines, DS5 benefits from changes to the suspension, combining comfort with dynamism.
New dampers iron out imperfections in the road surface, reducing vibration and offering smoother running for additional comfort while retaining dynamic performance.
DS5 also benefits from the new generation six-speed automatic gearbox, which combined with the BlueHDi 180 engine emits CO2 emissions of just 114g/km. Along with a fuel economy of 64.2mpg, makes it one of the best in the segment.
To achieve this, a focus was placed on several areas:
- the reduction of internal friction in the engine and the gearbox,
- lower engine operating speeds thanks to the engine high torque and new gear change laws favouring fuel economy in everyday use,
- improved driving enjoyment and dynamism as a result of fast gear changes,
- torque converter operation that allows increases in engine speed to be greatly reduced on acceleration,
- the SCR technology making optimum levels of fuel consumption possible without penalising exhaust emissions,
- adapting the alternator-starter Stop&Start system to the automatic gearbox.
Furthermore, the Hybrid4 version provides efficiency and ease of driving with record CO2 emissions of 85 g/km. DS5 Hybrid4 offers dynamic performance with 200hp, four-wheel drive and the driving enjoyment of a great touring car. A successful version, this model represents more than a third of sales of DS5 in Europe.
A TECHNOLOGY OFFENSIVE
NEW THP 130 ENGINE: THE PURETECH FAMILY IS GROWING
Designed and produced in France, the PureTech family of petrol engines are innovative, efficient and economical and now more powerful and ecological than ever before with 15% more power and up to 25% lower fuel consumption and CO2emissions compared to the previous generations.
Following the launch of the new three-cylinder petrol engine (1.0 litre 68hp and 1.2 litre 82hp), there is now a version fitted with a turbocharger. The e-THP 130 is the first PSA Peugeot Citroën Group petrol engine to meet the Euro 6 standard and the Citroën C4 will be the first model fitted with this engine.
The e-THP 130 engine delivers maximum power of 130hp at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 230 Nm at 1,750 rpm, while still respecting the environment with CO2 emissions of just 110 g/km and economy of 58.9mpg on the combined cycle (which is 23% more efficient than the previous generation, for 10hp more). This engine is compact with weight and size greatly reduced while delivering performance and driving enjoyment among the best in the market, enhanced further by a six-speed manual gearbox.
BLUEHDI ENGINES: POWERFUL, ECONOMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSIDERATE
Introduced on the C4 Picasso family, the new generation of BlueHDi Diesel engines is now offered on DS5 in the BlueHDi 120 and BlueHDi 180 versions, and on the New Citroën C4 Cactus, in the BlueHDi 100 version.
Combining high power output, low fuel consumption with respect for the environment, the BlueHDi engines meet the Euro 6 standard by including an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) module, the only technology able to sharply reduce NOx emissions (-90%) while also reducing CO2 emissions.
This SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system continuously converts NOx, into water vapour (H2O) and nitrogen (N2), both of which are harmless.
This new system also helps deliver impressive fuel economy with low CO2 emissions.

DS5 BlueHDi 180 6-speed Auto | 114g/km | 64.2mpg |
CITROËN C-ELYSÉE WTCC
Citroën’s technology offensive can also be seen in a new sporting challenge with the Citroën C-Elysée WTCC, competing in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (FIA WTCC) which starts with the first race in Marrakech, in Morocco on 12-13 April.
A new challenge for Citroën Racing, as well as for Sébastien Loeb, Yvan Muller and José-Maria López. The holder of five Rallye Raid world cups and eight WRC titles, Citroën is taking part in international closed-circuit racing for the first time.
The Citroën C-Elysée is a C-segment sedan intended primarily for the growing overseas markets, such as Latin America, the Mediterranean basin, China and Russia. Acclaimed by customers, the Citroën C-Elysée has greatly exceeded its initial sales objective with more than 60,000 examples sold. The Citroën C-Elysée benefits from the best of the brand’s styling, development and quality, and has a three-box body that is ideal for the best in aerodynamics.
Planted firmly on18-inch wheels, the Citroën C-Elysée WTCC’s design is impressive. Including an aerodynamic lip, the bumper underlines the grille with its prominent double chevrons. Widened at the front and rear, the wings contribute to the body’s sporty character. The rear wing holds the car down on the track.
Under the bonnet, the Citroën C-Elysée WTCC is powered by the same 1.6-litre direct injection turbo engine as the DS3 WRC. With more liberal control of the turbocharger, maximum power is now close to 380hp. Transmission is through the front wheels only via a six-speed sequential gearbox.
A true sign of the brand’s continuation in sport, Citroën’s participation in the FIA WTCC emphasises the importance of motorsport as a technology proving ground, and is an indication of its desire for a greater international presence.
